Will you turn off your cellphone when you are in the plane?

You will be told to turn off your cellphone when you are in the airplane. Will you follow it or still let it on secretly? I will turn it off no matter what. Nothing can be much more important than all people's safety. Anything can be hold on after a few hours.

If they ask for it to be turned off i would figure that they had a good reason for making the request and would indeed turn it off.

i would follow the rules of safety.. if it is required to switch the phone because it will have 'effects' on the controls of the airplane.. the machines in a hospital... the petrol pump... whatever... i would definitely turn it off.. and i think people who dont abide by this safety rules are very 'selfish'... because they are only endangering themselves, but also others....

For those that like to have their cellphone permanently attached to their ears this will be a big problem, I can easily turn it off no problem, in fact I hardly ever use my phone and just use it for emergencies or texts, I do not need to have it on me for most of the time. People should turn them off on planes because they are not telling you to turn them off for fun, it's for a purpose, what the signal interrupts the smooth running of the plane? People can be very selfish at times.

That's good that you don't have to depend on your cellphone.

Hi youless, ohh..I am very obedient when it comes to this issue..I don't like to take any risk and will turn off my phone right there and then...SO, prior to that, I will be contacting Family and friends that I am taking my flight and will not send them messages! My Family and friends are like me also but I still notice some people who will secretly use their phone after the warning...hmm...wish everyone will pay attention to this!

Those people are just so selfish to use the cellphone secretly in the airplane. I don't think the call delays a few hour will be a big trouble for them.

Good evening, youless. I have traveled in a plane for three times. Each time I turned off my cell phone before I got on the plane. I always follow the guidelines for the safety of all of us passengers. It is usually not allowed to turn on the cell phones, though it seems that months back I read a piece of news that it is allowed to turn on the cell phone in a plane in a foreign country. I forgot which country allows this. But still I don't think it a good idea to leave our cell phones on while in a plane. Good night, youless.

I always turn my cellphone off when I fly somewhere. Why would i need to keep the phone on when I am on a plane? People know whhere I am, and besides, it might inerfere with their equipment if I keep my cellphone on. I don't need it that badly when I am up in the air. LOL

You are right. But sometimes it seems some people are very busy and they always keep their mobiles on.

Hi youless, I always follow the rules strictly and will definitely switch off my cellphone when boarding the plane. This is for the sake of the safety of the passengers as well as the crews of the plane. Many tragedies might happen just because of some innocent guys who always ignore the risk of using cellphone in the plane though they are told earlier before the plane flying-off. I hope that those passengers who have never traveled by plane before should take attention to the announcement of the pilot as well as the air hostess who gives briefing about the safety measures when riding a plane. We could also find display LCD board on the top of the passenger seat to warn us about certain major items like switch off the cellphone and fastening the seat belt etc. po9sting and take care.

Some people are just very selfish and think they are "busy" people and then they ignore the safety regulations. That's too bad.

phones in the air - cellphone and airliner photo..
A phone left on when aboard a plane will search for a cellphone mast to connect with.It will be radiating it's signal at maximum strength trying to make that connection,(there being very few cellphone masts 36,000 feet up)....(I've never tried to make a cellphone call from a plane to figure out if that's even possible, but as the airlines ask us not to do so,I haven't..)If You are concerned about your own health from cellphone radiation or the possible effect on the aircraft's electronics,it might be best if you didn't try... I did a search for the cruising altitude of a commercial plane and found this investigation related to the reports of passengers in the 9/11 Aircraft allegedly making phone calls from cellphones to relatives..the tests were done from composite material constructed light aircraft (ie,radio wave transparent, not Commercial Metal skinned planes..) their results showed that above 2000 feet, getting a signal would be difficult, and carrying on a conversation almost impossible...aboard a commercial plane,at cruising altitude and speed, they gave the chance of succesfully connecting at about 100 to 1 against..so,not easy, and at that speed the mast handover would be difficult too.. http://www.physics911.net/projectachilles

When I am on board the plane, I turn of my cellular phone even before the announcement is done. I am a person who always follow the rules and as much as possible, I always do what is being advised. This goes especially if it involves life and safety of people.

No - Cellphones
I turn it off even without being told not only in planes but also in hospitals where our mobile phones may cause electronic problems to the devices being used. It is enough for me just to notice and read the signs asking me to turn it off

Yes of course I would turn it off. I heard many bad things about the airplane crash or airplane accident because of this. They asked me to turn off the cell phone because of something, and that is written in the safety flight regulations. If you want to fly safe, just follow the rules. I agree with you that nothing can be much more important than our safety. When we are in the airplane, we cannot jump out when something happen like when we're taking land traveling, so that we should have been more careful of what we do up there

Of course i will... we need to follow all safety measures when flying... we must not let our own selfishness or wants to get in the way of the safety of others... we all know that when a plane crashes... there is mostly like to be no survivors... so all safety precautions must be followed by everyone...

I always used to switch off my phone when I'm on the plane, but after realizing that no one really tried to contact me during my trips abroad, I just put it on silent mode. If I'm expecting a call or even a text message then I turn off my cellphone. But most of the time it's on silent mode and I don't get any messages. Of course, I do prioritize safety and I will turn off my cellphone gladly if needed.

I turn it off. I've heard people say that it isn't really a safety hazard any more (and it kinda makes sense... how would they continue to operate planes if cell phones are a risk after... so many years of having cell phones around? they haven't come up with anything to counteract that?) But I do have other practical reasons. Even if it were completely safe and all, a plane is my place to sleep, so I turn it off. For that reason, and also in case that it really is a safety factor.
