In a interview recently Biden said that paying higher taxes to get America out of this rut is our patriotic duty.
He also said he wanted to tax the wealthier higher and "put the money in the pockets of the middle-class"
My question is this....is it our patriotic duty to pay higher taxes? Is it the wealthy's responsibility to take care of the rest of us? What exactly is our duty as citizens of this country? Is he right?

Here's the problem, lilwonders, as I see it. Those in the lower end of the income scale, along with middle class wage earners with families, end up paying no taxes when all is said and done. It's all returned in the form of a refund. So, where else does the government turn except to the very rich and big business? If you raise taxes high enough to compensate for the child tax credit and earned income credit in order to force those in the low and middle income brackets to contribute more, the hit on the rich would have to be even higher than it is now.

Lilwonders,
This is always the general rhetoric that comes from the liberal left. The wealthy people do not nor will they ever pay their fair share according to the liberals. Why is it that what someone earns determines whether they are greedy or giving? Many many wealthy people give hugh amounts of their income to charity every year and this is above and beyond their taxes. Sure, sure, it is tax deductable but if it wasn't something they wanted to do, there are many other ways to get tax credits!
What Obama and Biden want to do is play "robin hood" and take from the wealthy and give to the "poor". The problem I have with that is that many of the people they believe are "poor" are people who refuse to work or even try!I have a big problem with that!
My belief about what Obama wants to do with the rich and taxes is this:
When the government takes it upon themselves to redistribute wealth, the wealthy go into a "protective" mode and quit hiring, start laying off, and stop investing in US investments. This $hit runs downhill and the people it hurts are the very people that Obama says he wants to help!

No, I don't think so. The whole point of America is supposed to be a place where you can make a better life for yourself. But there has to be hard work involved. It is not a place to ask the rich folks to take care of everyone else. That is not fundamentally right either! There has to be a better way to fix our broken system. It is not our fault that our government is seriously in debt and needs more tax money for whatever reason. The government is responsible for their own debt! If our nation was not in such deep debt, they would be able to help the less fortunate WITHOUT increasing the taxes and expecting the taxpayers to pay their way.
