Have you ever heard of Reiki?

When I was a teenager I explored many different religions and spiritual aspects. As I grew older all my studies were kind of forged into a mish mash of spiritual ideals, kind of like my own personal religion. I will never say that I am any particular religion but I enjoy finding the beauty and power that lies in every religion, great and small. One of my favorite subjects to research was Reiki. When I was 17 I sought out a Reiki Master in my area and studied under her for a time. She was a little tiny woman with a very peaceful presence. She spoke in quiet tones, and had a knack for putting people at ease. She taught me how to meditate and use the light of the universe (God, if you will) to help center myself and heal my spirit of wounds and scars that I thought I had forgotten… but I still carried around with me. I learned a lot from her, and many of the skills she taught me saw me through some very difficult periods of my life so far. For those who do not know, Reiki translates roughly into “Universal Life Force”. Practitioners of Reiki learn how to draw upon the infinite light of the universe to heal themselves and others through the laying on of hands. The human body has 7 focus points of energy on their body, known as “chakras”. Many major religions are aware of them. The Chinese in particular have done extensive research on these spiritual focal points. The first chakra is located in the pelvic region, and the last is located on the top of the head. By learning about how each chakra works and how it affects our bodies, we can then manipulate them, increasing spiritual awareness and balance our bodies natural energies. Sometimes when bad things happen to us, or we are affected negatively from an outside source, the chakras become cluttered, or even close up. This disrupts the flow of energy through the human body and can have many negative side effects that manifest in physical sickness or ailments.. That is where Reiki becomes important. A Reiki healer can draw the light of the universe through their bodies, and through their hands, to help get rid of the negative “junk” that we carry around in our energy fields. To give you a better idea of what they do, imagine the chakras as being tangled balls of yarn. As we get older the balls of yarn become more tangled as we pass through lifes hardships and trials. The Reiki Master can untangle the balls of yarn so that energy can pass more freely, and we can rid our spirit of the negative energy we all carry around. Have you ever had any experience with Reiki? There is a wealth of information on the internet, and chances are there is a Reiki Master in your home area that can either heal you, or teach you the art. It is fascinating art and it has served me well over the years. I would highly recommend everyone see a Reiki Healer at some point. It is amazing how much better you feel afterwards.

hehe dont worry about all the questions. feel free to ask anything you wish. i was trained by my husband. i am in massachusetts, US. reiki, same as any other energy healing methods, can be used for cleansing because cleansing is the same thing as healing. it just isnt healing the physical body, but the soul, chakras, aura, etc. and my hands get hot.. and vibrate up my arms into my shoulders when i channel the energy.

Yet another reason why I think you and I were twins seperated at birth :) Of course knowing what I know about you and your husband already this news does not really come as a shock. I hope one day you and I can get together and pick each others brains over a hot cup of tea.

Yes I have done Reiki training level 1 which is healing hands on. I always intended to do level 2 which is healing at a distance but I never quite got around to it. I also know about the chakras. When I first went to have my chakras cleansed I was told that they were all closed except for the mind one. Now they are all opened. I am not sure about Reiki. It can make you feel more energized and it can heal spiritual areas but I am not at all sure that it can heal physical problems. I have tried to heal physical illness with it and nothing happens. Maybe it is a form of spiritual or energy healing. I tried to use it to help myself and my partner but while it can make you feel more peaceful it cannot heal physical illness. At least not when I do it, I am not sure if a Reiki Master could more.

Thank you for joining the discussion :) Myself, I reached Reiki level 2, but unfortunatly school and work cut down on the amount of time I could dedicate to my study of the art. I hope to one day in the enar future continue my training. My old teacher has since moved away, so I will need to search my area for a new one. I have seen and heard many testaments that Reiki can help to heal physical illness, but as with all alterior healing forms should NEVER replace medical perscription. Reiki works best a suppliment to medical treatment, and should not be used alone for rehabilitation. When I first began my training my chakras were weak. Mostly my throat chakra. It is interesting because the throat chakra has alot to do with communication. I used to be a very shy teenager. I tried to stay in the background and I would let kids pick on me and I would never stand up for myself. The more I worked with my chakras the more I "found my mvoice" so to speak. I became braver, more confident and become strong willed. I probably would not be the person I am today without my studies of Reiki... it really helped me find a sense of Self.

No I would never replace a prescription with it. The illness I was trying to help was my own but it is possible that my illness has weakened my energy enough so I cannot help myself. I have chronic fatigue syndrome and I have noticed that because my energy levels are so low and I am exhausted all the time that every time I get an infection or a cold my immune system cannot fight it. So it is possible that I cannot draw on the energy of Reiki either. It may be that my own energy is just too weak at the moment to be useful.

This sounds interesting. I am Catholic and while I am not a practicing one, I still believe the basics. But to be honest in my opinion all religions are basically the same, a guide to live a good life and one is not better than another, just different in their approaches. So I do like to look into other forms of spirituality, and this look like something to study. I do know about Chakras and negative energies.

Hello, I used to work for a Hospice, in the corporate office. Reiki, was used on a lot of our patients. Most of the patients had like six months. The workplace was very stressful, and every now and then, the company would bring in someone to give massages and reiki. the massages were something to die for. I had not heard of reiki, and decided to sign up for it. Let me tell you, it was the most relaxing and refreshing feeling I can ever remember having. Unfortunately, by being at work, we were limited to the time of the session. I believe it was only for ten minutes. I would have it done again. My eyes were closed, but I could sense that the reiki person was using her hands.

Very interesting, but not at all surprising. It is really amazing how heavily Reiki is used yet only a part of the population has ever heard about it. It is really not that odd to find Reiki being used in Hospitals, or anywhere in the medical profession. The benifits are certainly far reaching. Thank you for sharing this point of view :)

reiki gr8,i had read a lot of articles abt it. i would like to add few more line to what ii2atee said ...... ORIGINATION---- mikao usi originated reiki in the year 1922 after 21 day retreat on mount kurma, involving in meditation, fasting, and prayers. this was first originated in japan. then usi said that by mystical revelation he had gained the knowledge and spiritual whic is called reiki. later on he move to tokyo and formed usui reikihealing society, whic later became widely popular as reki princeples. Treatment------ in this the recipent is asked to lie down on a table and relax himself. this parctised can be done without removing clothes. At the start, the healer will take some time and he will do meditation and prepare himself for the treatment. then the treatment starts by placing hands on differet parts of body. the healer may use touching or non touching methods. it depends on healer. u will fell very relaxed and comfortable after it is done. there is belife in some people tat, it can cure some diseases that mordern medicine cant cure. till todaay i haven't found one who preaches and practises reiki. i hope i could find one in the future..

Thank your this fantasic addendum to my discussion! You brought up some very helpfull pointers for people who are interested in learning more about Reiki. I truley appreciate you sharing this information. I could talk all day about the various aspects of Reiki, but I find the learning experience is more pure when a persons curiosity leads them to pursue their own answers. Good luck finding a Reiki Practitioner. I was surprised how many lived in my area... I just had to look for them :) Thanks again! Tee

Hi Tee, Thank you for your explanation of Reiki, it is very interesting. I have done some research on the Internet and had read a little about it when I was younger. I would like to find a healer but there isn't one anywhere in the area where I live. Sometimes I think that I would like to live in a big city where I could be involved in the things that interest me, but I also like the quiet of a small town. Life is all about choices and very few are fortunate enough to be able to have all the things they desire. Blessings.

Having grown up in a sprawling country I can totaly appreciate the peace and quiet of the simple life. Now that I live in a big city I find myself getting stressed out alot faster, and my patience has a shorter fuse. Reiki has been one of my saving graces living in the city. It's a tool I am glad I have under my belt to help heal myself of the stressful life that is unfortunatly (at this time) a nescesity. If I still lived in the country, I am sure I could find other ways of balancing myself, though. I used to lay on my back and gaze up at the stars. City people have no idea what the TRUE night sky looks like. You need total darness to appreciate the vast swirls of stars... its impossible to see them all with street lamps on all night. If you were to ask me what I miss most about the country I would say I miss seeing the stars. When my boyfriend spent his first night in the "real" country he was amazed at how many stars he could see. They are very soothing to the soul.

I think of myself as spiritual more than religious. To me spirituality is knowledge of universal energy, and self, and how to use both for the betterment of humankind. My mom, and siblings all have some natural ability to heal. My youngest sister is the one who uses Reiki. Although, she does this naturally, she has studied more about it. She has developed her ability to the point where she can do this from a distance. She is also a massage therapist. Imagine the treatment, and treat, her clients must get when they go to her.

What a special family you have :) I can only imagine the power that lies in your younger sister. To combine a massage with the healing power of light... what an amazing thing :)

Yes, I think our family is quite special. My mom and youngest sister are more developed in their areas than the rest, I think. I myself am not a healer, I am an empath. The healing hands of those around me are very much needed.*S*
