Does anyone know if Osteoperosis can be a job related injury?

Hi. I have worked construction for 20+ years. I pour concrete which entails a lot of time on your knees on the ground or on cement floors. There is also a lot of heavy carrying and lifting and twisting and climbing with these heavy objects, over uneven terrain.

There is certainly health issues that could arise from your work details but Osteoperosis is not even remotely connected It is something else I am sure of that Of course if you are really concerned the best advice would be to make an appointment with a doctor and check it out Good Luck and Hope everything works out

Osteoperosis is caused by a calcium deficiency and bones become hollow. It is unlikely to be caused by job relation, however if there is a lot of cement dust then breathing it in may have some effect on your metabolism and alter your calcium level. You could have a lot of wear and tear on your bones and joints because of the time on your knees and the heavy lifting, carrying and twisting.

No, it isn't caused by the work you do, though it may eventually make it impossible for you to do heavy work. It's a thinning of bone mass, caused by insufficient calcium.

As far as what I have read, osteoporosis cannot be job related. There are mant risk factos, but working does not appear to be one of them. For more information, go to wedmd.com. There is a lot of information on this subject there.
