I think it's a nice luxury. But then using a dishwasher is more economical than hand washing since we have to run and wait for the water to get hot to start washing the dishes by hand. Since there's only three of us adults in our house, we don't really use the dishwasher unless we have other people over for dinner or so. Sometimes when we get lazy we just stack the dirty dishes in it and then run it when it's full.
It could only just be me but I find washing dishes by hand relaxing. Lol. I just go into this wash mode where I just enjoy scrubbing and rinsing and not having to think of anything else.

Hello ersmommy. Sorry, it took me a while to thank you for the BR. It also took me a few minutes to find my post. Thanks!

It is a luxury. I never had a dishwasher. OR correction my first home had a dishwasher that I never used.
Then my new home, when we remodel the kitchen my husband took out the dishwasher
So I don’t even know how to use one.
But if I had one for the big party days then I love to have one to help out.

I don't have a dishwasher so I could manage.
But I would love to have one but my husband jokingly says he has one "ME"
He says it is a waste of water but I don't see it as that. Well for me it is not a absolute need so it would be a luxury for me to have one.

We don't have a dishwasher at home. We all don't like washing the dishes because it's a very boring housework. But we haven't planned to buy a dishwasher because I wonder whether it really works well.
I love China

I kind of like washing dishes by hand from time to time. But, I wouldn't ever be without a dishwasher for long.

I love the dishwasher. It gets every thing really clean. When the dishwasher was broken and when the kids do the dishes they always need to be rewashed. They seem to be afraid of hot water which is need to get rid of any grease. Even the best dish soap is not very good in cold water. So I think the dishwasher is an absolute necessity.

Hello,Mommy! We don't have a dishwasher in our home for washing the dishes after meals. We wash the plates and other utensils by hand in the sink.We are a small family consisting myself and my wife and we use limited utensils so that we have not felt the need of getting a dishwasher. However, soon I will get one for my wife who is washing all our utensils and often she falling ill due to cold.I don't think dishwasher to be a luxury item.Rather it is a necessity for old people like us.thanx.

I don't know what it's like to have a dishwasher so I wouldn't notice any difference! I don't mind doing the washing up personally. I live alone anyway so I guess there isn't much left in the way of dishes. If I purchased a dishwasher in the future I'm afraid that I would become too attached to it and then I would not be able to survive without it. Dishwashers! No thanks. Andrew

From a practicality standpoint, I can't see spending the time loading and unloading a dishwasher as a worthwhile exercise. Consider that most of the dishes that really require cleaning need to be scraped, sprayed off and at least partially cleaned before they are even put in the machine. On top of that, you also need to economize the layout of the dishes in the dishwasher to make sure that you get enough dishes in there to make it worth the expense of running the machine in the first place. Now I have had a dishwasher for several years, and in that time, I can count on one hand (with fingers left over) the number of times I have actually used it. Maybe that's just ignorant on my part, but I think that I am just as efficent at washing them by hand.

I have done without a dishwasher although I admit it might save me some time. Washing plates is a time when all the family can meet and help in the chores and talk.

if your dishwasher is a newer model, its actually better for the water supply to use the dishwasher rather than hand washing. mine is ancient and i'm in the process of replacing it! i love having a dishwasher, i dont want to waste water ( i'm in CA and its expensive) plus its quick and easy!

I haven't had a dishwasher in years. My house just doesn't have one. I wanted one when we first moved in, but haven't gotten around to getting it yet. We've had too many other problems with this house, so the dishwasher is about last on our list.

I'm beginning to think my dishwasher is more of a nuisance than a luxury! I love that it makes doing dishes so much easier, but my kitchen is so small and it's not built in so it's in the way when I run it! Lately I've started doing most of my dishes by hand.

Well I think it would be hard..
Although once you get used to not having one, it will be easier..
But how long would that take :D
Have a nice day ^^
