Has your child ever requested JUST bread with their meal?

I got up this morning to make my daughter breakfast. I put the cereal and milk down. She comes to the table as I am about to make her some toast. "No mommy, just the bread" No butter or jelly, just plain potato bread. She ate it and then asks for grapes. I didn't see the harm. But it would seem awfully dry to me.

My daughter is a fussy eater. She wants different food every day. Sometimes I just don't know what she wants. If she can answer to these questions, that would have been a great help, but she's just 20 months old. There were phases when she just wants bread. She almost always eats plain bread. I tried to put a little jam on it, but she will spew it out again. Sigh! I can't wait for her to really talk and tell me what she wants.

I will tell you now, speaking only makes it easier for a little while. Wait til the phase comes where they change their mind every 30 seconds!

Oh my! Every 30 seconds? Actually my daughter is showing signs of that too. Sometimes I have to prepare 3 different food for her at meal times. She will eat a little bit of each. I always have some back up which she is all-time favourites but may not necessarily have all the nutrients she needs. That is the last resort. I do hope she gets enough everyday.

Hi, I don't have any kids, but I have 2 nephews aged 8 and 6. The elder boy would ask for 'black and white', that is white bread and raspberry jam. The younger boy would just take white bread. I don't understand how the small boy could just take plain white bread - it's like so tasteless; but he seems to enjoy it. My sister tried butter, cheese, peanut butter..anything; but he still prefers white bread!

My daughter has never done that before. She is not much of a bread eater to begin with. She is 16 now and still is a very picky eater. I like to eat plain bread sometimes too though.

That's interesting. It would seem dry to me too, but maybe your child wasn't feeling well. Sometimes we eat plain toast when we are nauseous in my house. That seems to be a thing which was recommended to me by the doctor when my daughter was sick.

My daughter does this all the time... Day and night. I guess she gets it from me because as a kid I loved to roll bread up in a ball and eat it. I still do sometimes. No harm :)

i dont know but my daughter loves bread and always has. She used to sneak the loaf of bread in her room in the middle of the night when she was like 3 or 4. maybe it had a nutrient in it she needed who knows. But it wasnt because she wasnt getting fed. we always eat a nutritious meal so it couldnt have been because she was just that hungry or starving.

My sister has asked for plain toast with nothing on it but never just bread. My mom and husband have this habit of squeezing several pieces of bread together and eating it plain. Yeah it would be kinda dry going down if she didn't have milk or juice. kids request some things we would never expect them to.

My son is always with a big appetite. He always puts jam on his toast. I wonder how he likes that. I always prefer a toast with butter.

My 3 year old does not care for toast and especially not toast with anything on it. He asked for "toast" yesterday, which really means a plain piece of bread, and just about had a fit when I instinctively started to drop it in the toaster. I popped it right out and gave it to him but he still exaimed it closely to make sure there were no traces of butter.

Not unless it a French Roll and we are still in the store shopping. My son likes his bread or toast covered in either, butter, peanut butter, jelly or any combination of the three.
