During a rescue to save a cat hit by a car, daughter ends up in Hospital..

That sounds like a horrible ordeal. I have never heard of them cutting off the head to send for an autopsy for rabies....lol. Don't mean to laugh, just sounded a little funny. I could kind of picture it in my head. Anyway, Im sorry your family had to go through that.

So sorry she got bit. I had never heard that they cut off the head for rabies tests. I always thought it was a blood test or tissue test. This seems sever cutting off the animals head though. Disgusting. I am glad things turned out for the best for your daughter though.

I feel bad for the Fed-Ex guy. Can you imagine just knowing you were carting around cat heads in the back of your truck?!

I never really thought about who would pay for things like that. It makes sense for the pet owner to, but at the same time, your daughter took that risk so...

I guess that's just one of those things where as long as everyone is satisfied with the end result it really doesn't matter. Poor cat having to suffer like that though...glad rabies wasn't an issue!

A few years ago,my family raised four ducks,who were so lovely.I spent most of my time after school on them .When they were still tiny,I always search for worms with them on earth .Every time I gave them worms,they became so happy that they wavered their tail.After more than about half of a month,we had become so familiar that when I came back from school and they saw me far way,they would run toward me happily for food .
Several months later,they were grown up,but the friendship between them and me didn't change,but bcame closer.I kept catching some worms for them everyday.The were covered with white feather from head to tail.When supper time came,they would stand in front,looking at me seriously .This made me can't help giving some food to them.As reward,they would swing their tails happily...
But unfortunately,they were killed by the agricultral chemical .On that day,I became very depressed and angry .We human kind did so much to hurt our friends .Why not change?

I am glad that it all turned out for everyone though. I am glad to hear that the neighbor was very sympathetic too. It is hard to find good folks like that these days. I hope your daughter is okay.

Oh that is awful, they couldn't do a simple blood test for rabies that wouldn't cost as much? Isn't that what they do for when an animal bites someone? Well glad to hear your daughter will be fine, she is a good person for saving the cat..

what a mess by just trying to help the cat. glad your daughter is o.k. glad the neighbor acted the way they did. it could have been alot worse. soglad it wasn't.

I must say, reading this gives me the shivers. The poor cat, having it's back broken like that. I am thankful it was able to be put to sleep, to end the suffering. It must have been in such terrible pain. I'm so glad that my beloved kitty is an indoor cat, so this will never happen to her. We're very fortunate to have her with us still, after her recent bout with pancreatitus. I've never heard of them 'doing that' to test for rabies. Horrors!

I'm glad though, that your daughter came to this cat's rescue, and very sorry she ended up being bitten. Thank goodness there was no rabies, as it's my understanding the shots are extremely painful. Take care.

Oh wow! I'm so glad your daughter is alright! I would have done exactly the same thing she did to try to rescue that poor kitty. I'm sad that it had to be put to sleep, but obviously there wasn't anything that could be done.

It is a nice thing that your daughter did in helping that cat. Its ashame that she got bit, and the cat passed away, but she did the right thing. I didn't know that they cut the head off of the animal to test them for rabies that surprises me. I live in western PA, and we have had a rabie scare once with a raccoon with our dogs, but I thought they just did a blood test on the dead raccoon. Wow.. learn something everyday. Hope your daughters bite feel better.
