During a rescue to save a cat hit by a car, daughter ends up in Hospital.. |
|
A couple days ago we were all sitting out in my front yard..School was out and the cars and buses were on their way down the hill...All of a sudden we here a thump and we see a cat trying to get to the other side of the road, she was dragging her back legs..My daughter was waiting to go to work and saw what happened..so she ran to get the cat and everything was fine until she layed it down in the grass....The cat latched on to her thumb and gave her a horrible bite... My husband took the cat to the vet...It was our neighbors cat but they weren't home...My nextdoor neighbor took my daughter to the hospital and I waited at home with my grandsons... The cat had broken her back and she had to be put to sleep..They had to check for rabies, due to the cat biting my daughter...Because of the bite they had to cut off the cat's head and send it to Harrisburg to do a autopsy on the brain to make sure that the cat didn't have rabies... The vet bill for my neighbor was $222.00..The Fed-Ex bill to overnight the head was $120.00.. My daughter feels really bad that the neighbor had to pay so much but because of the bite it had to checked for rabies..Vet called this morning and there is no rabies....She was up to date on her rabies shots but they had to be sure.... The neighbor was so thankful that we did take her cat to the vet..she was so sorry that my daughter got bit...

1. BellasmamaTiff (1820) | 4 months ago | That sounds like a horrible ordeal. I have never heard of them cutting off the head to send for an autopsy for rabies....lol. Don't mean to laugh, just sounded a little funny. I could kind of picture it in my head. Anyway, Im sorry your family had to go through that.

webeishere (11546) | 4 months ago | That's what I was thinking also. Cutting the head off seems a bit overboard. I thought they operated taking a tissue smaple or something. Not the whole brain and head. Ewwww! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

foxyfire33 (5748) | 4 months ago | It has something to do with how rabies affects the brain tissue. Testing and looking at the brain itself is the best way to make a positive determination.

Feona1962 (3237) | 4 months ago | I had never heard of it either..but because the cat did bite someone I guess they had to check the brain...Thank you..

Foxxee (2373) | 4 months ago | I knew back in the day they use to cut the heads off of living or dead animals that were suspected to have rabies. Today I do know if the animal is already dead, they at times will cut the head off, its faster && easier for testing, but on an animal that is alive, they take tissue samples, so they don't have to kill the animal. Rabies virus is found only in the brain, spinal cord, and saliva of infected animals.

2. webeishere (11546) | 4 months ago | So sorry she got bit. I had never heard that they cut off the head for rabies tests. I always thought it was a blood test or tissue test. This seems sever cutting off the animals head though. Disgusting. I am glad things turned out for the best for your daughter though. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

3. foxyfire33 (5748) | 4 months ago | I feel bad for the Fed-Ex guy. Can you imagine just knowing you were carting around cat heads in the back of your truck?! I never really thought about who would pay for things like that. It makes sense for the pet owner to, but at the same time, your daughter took that risk so... I guess that's just one of those things where as long as everyone is satisfied with the end result it really doesn't matter. Poor cat having to suffer like that though...glad rabies wasn't an issue!

4. qianlizhifeng (138) | 4 months ago | A few years ago,my family raised four ducks, who were so lovely.I spent most of my time after school on them .When they were still tiny,I always search for worms with them on earth .Every time I gave them worms, they became so happy that they wavered their tail. After more than about half of a month,we had become so familiar that when I came back from school and they saw me far way, they would run toward me happily for food . Several months later, they were grown up,but the friendship between them and me didn't change, but bcame closer.I kept catching some worms for them everyday. The were covered with white feather from head to tail. When supper time came, they would stand in front, looking at me seriously .This made me can't help giving some food to them.As reward, they would swing their tails happily... But unfortunately, they were killed by the agricultral chemical .On that day,I became very depressed and angry .We human kind did so much to hurt our friends .Why not change?

6. carmelanirel (6099) | 4 months ago | Oh that is awful, they couldn't do a simple blood test for rabies that wouldn't cost as much? Isn't that what they do for when an animal bites someone? Well glad to hear your daughter will be fine, she is a good person for saving the cat..

Feona1962 (3237) | 4 months ago | They did do a blood test but they still had to send it out for a more thourough examination...Thank you..

10. tlb0822 (727) | 4 months ago | It is a nice thing that your daughter did in helping that cat. Its ashame that she got bit, and the cat passed away, but she did the right thing. I didn't know that they cut the head off of the animal to test them for rabies that surprises me. I live in western PA, and we have had a rabie scare once with a raccoon with our dogs, but I thought they just did a blood test on the dead raccoon. Wow.. learn something everyday. Hope your daughters bite feel better.

She is doing better...The swelling is going down and it doesn't hurt as much... Thank you...
