Have you ever...built a wind generator to offset your electricity bill?  |

|  I'm just curious! I know that anyone can build them out of spare parts, but the reading materials on doing just that is just a tiny bit scarce.
So, I'm wondering if anyone's done that and what their favorite designs are...do you think it's a good idea? Would you ever do it? What do you think are the merits or faults of this idea?
New technologies regarding wind power are coming out all the time...someday, I'm hoping they'll do without propellers altogether and mix kinetic energy and with wind energy...but I'm getting ahead of myself.

| |  I have looked into it but I read that they were noisy and I need at least 1.2 acres of land per each wind generator I want to put on. We are leading more toward the solar panels since we can use it easier. Now the problem is that we cant affor it right now. I hope as demand goes up the cost goes down soon. We cant swing the $60,000 we need.

| |  I'm definately bookmarking this discussion to return to later & read all the other responses!
My partner and I have recently bought a property with no mains electricity so we will be entirely reliant on solar and wind turbines. We're not far enough down the line to have done more than some basic reading yet, but it's something we need to concentrate some effort on very soon.

| |  No, but I am looking into it. Thinking about a Teslar wind Turbine, more efficient than props or conventional turbines and easier to make.
Currently, I convert used vegetable oil into Diesel to run my truck on.
