What was popular when you were growing up. FOr me it was roller skates that looked like sneakers, shiny disco pocketbooks and clothes. They had albums and cassettes were big too. I grew up in the 70's and 80's. The only technology we had was the Atari video system. I LOVED THAT! Kissing Potion lip gloss had just come out by Mabeline. I loved the mint. As for clothes, When I was in elementary it was courdoroys and earth shoes. When I got to middle and high school it was the Michael Jackson Thriller jackets for all!! I was such a cornball!!! Michael Jackson was the biggest star in the world! It seems like yesterday. Now the things my daughter asks for are nothing like the things I liked. I wish things were still like that. WHat about you? What was it like when you were younger?

We love the New Kid on the Block, me and my classmates sign up this fan magazine and sent to the publisher or something like that. We love penfriends through correspondence and hanging out with a classmates house watching Betamax. And not to mention the Song Hits magazine too, lol. Those good old days, makes me misses my old friends. sad

New Kids on the Block grew up in Boston. I live 20 miles from there. New Edition also grew up in Boston. I went to a party they had years back when I was in high school. I knew them well. I didnt know any of the new kids personally. I love the new song the New Kids on the Block just put out "SIngle" Have you heard it? I still have all my disney VHS movies. I dont want to throw them away. I still have a VCR. My husband is from Puerto Rico and hadnt seen alot of the movies from Disney. Occasionally, I set up the VCR and we watch them. It takes me back. Thanks for sharing. dl

Children were fond of skipping when I was young. Also, we used to play hide and seek. Hongkong knight dramas were very popular. Now, I don't wanna watch them anymore. On the other hand, I will pay more attention to Grey's anatomy, house, and the like. By the way, I lost my interest in Prison Break. Oh, sorry, it has nothing to do with the topic.

myLot reputation of 96/100. dloveli (1582)   ranked 116 out of 4,344 in have discussion on day to day issues  4 years ago

Skipping was fun. We liked hopscotch and jax. I loved to color. I still do. When I was recently sick in bed my husband bought me a brand new box of 96 crayons and a great book. I dont like to get into any television show where it becomes a must to watch. If you miss one you lose the whole story line. I have a busy schedule and I am afraid I would be lost in the first month. I started to watch prison break when it began. I missed a few shows due to work. When I went to watch it the other day, I had no clue what had happened. THey were escaping from yet another prison. I was so confused. They are cute though. lol. thanks for responding my friend. dl

Wow you remember it like it was yesterday! I love to remember. I think in every era there's something everyone has to have. I asked my 13 year old this same question just 10 minutes ago as she was getting ready for school. SHe actually named things other than computers and phones. I couldnt believe it! I forgot about hairdos. We had the dorothy hammill or the pat benatar look. Feathered back look was in. then in the 80's it was the big puffy hair. I loved it! Thanks for sharing your memories. I could go on all day long. Its funny to hear what everyone liked about their childhoods Thanks and Happy MyLotting. dl

Elvis, rock and roll, poodle skirts, drive-ins, Lps and Eps

myLot reputation of 96/100. dloveli (1582)   ranked 116 out of 4,344 in have discussion on day to day issues  4 years ago

SHort and sweet. Right to the point. I would have loved to have grown up with Elvis. I have always wished that those skirts would come back in style. You were so lucky to have gotten to wear the real thing. I am assuming an Lps is a record like and album. Am I right? I dont know what the eps is though. It has to be similar. When I read your response the picture that came to my mind was the opening scene from the movie " GREASE" at the school, Rydell High. Oh and if you didnt guess Grease was one of my favorite movies growing up. THanks for sharing and Happy MyLotting. dl

LP is a the large long playing record, EP is the smaller extended play record. Grease was my daughters favorite movie when she was a teenager.

Woohoo! A trip down memory lane! (Now where did I place my memory?)

Scooters (I believe they are called razors now), hula hoops, slinky, baseball, football, 5-speed (!) bicycles, Tonka trucks, playing tag at dusk, catching lightning bugs, TinkerToys, Lincoln Logs, Erector sets. Turtle-neck sweaters, paisley shirts, sweater vests. Banana splits, sundaes, McDonald hamburgers, A & W root beer, Eskimo pie, "Green River" drink, popsicles. 45s, LPs, hi-fi stereos, transistor radios - AM & FM, black-and-white TVs, the Ed Sullivan show. 57 Chevy, 53 Corvette, 56 T-bird. Sling shots & bb guns.

Do you remember these?

myLot reputation of 96/100. dloveli (1582)   ranked 116 out of 4,344 in have discussion on day to day issues  4 years ago

Well! I didnt have to ask you twice did I? You seemed to have a great memory. I love looking back on the good OLD times. LOL I loved slinky's. We also played tag at dusk. Is there any other time to play? lol McDonalds is a favorite for all times. I remember everything you have mentioned. I wasnt born yet. My mother talks about these things all the time. I find it so interesting to see what others remember. Who would of thought that 50 years later things would be so different. Computers for personal use wasnt even imagined. I think its funny to watch the movies from early eras that were about the future. The future being 2000. They have everyone in flying cars and space suits etc. lol Thanks for sharing your wonderful memories with me. DL

When I was just a kid, Levi jeans were in style. I always wanted to have a pair of them because alot of kids had them and they looked nice on them. I finally got me a pair because they were expensive back then. I wore them daily and washed them daily LOL.

myLot reputation of 96/100. dloveli (1582)   ranked 116 out of 4,344 in have discussion on day to day issues  4 years ago

Levis were in for me as well. I had a pair too. I have a friend that still has some of her clothes from school. She is a genuine packrat. SHe has kept everything since she was in first grade. I think its a bit much. TO each their own. We also wore those alligator shirts. IZOD. We had friendship pins. THey were small seed bead on a small safety pin. We would collect them. I had hundreds of them. We wore them on our shoelaces in sneakers. Ahh what memories!!THanks friend.dl

poodle skirts with lots of pettycoats, boy were they hard to keep up, all that hand washing. For those who don't know a poodle skirt was more then a circle wide
and the pettycoats that made it stand out, it also made it hard to sit down in. But I really loved the feel of all that fabric when you walked. And a little sway in the hip made it even better. HAH

I grew up in the fifties and sixties....we had peddle pushers and saddle shoes. Also poodle skirts. My parents owned a general store type business and I got one of the first ski coats and stirup pants....I was so cool. I loved music. So enjoyed Elvis.....the Beetles..alot of those groups. I lived in a small town so all of us hung out together....one of the stupid things we did was try to hold our breath for so long....then pant for a couple of minutes then pass out! Yup...real smart! We had drivein theaters......roller rinks and did alot of ice skating.
