The subject of home safety often crops up in discussions about healthy living. Which room do you think poses greater hazards for young children and the rest of the family? What are the hazards that can be found at home?

Where children are concerned, every room is a hazard. There are sockets in each room and children tend to put their little fingers inside or play with the switches. The kitchen too is a big no no. No stools or chairs which can be pulled near the windows, god, bringing up children is a matter of greatest concern with all parents. Its a full time job.

It depends on the home. All of my family are no longer very young, so right now, in our new house only two rooms hold risks. The living room, which has doors filled with glass -- which could be broken into by determined thieves (even though it's double-paned to make that harder). The second is the basement. The stairs have no railing, and both my parents are gonna be considered officially as seniors soon. Hopefully we can go things to remedy these problems in the future. It'll ease some of my paranoia, surely.

ronadldiny to me its the bathroom as the floors are usaually tile of some sort and if you g et water on them its a slip and fall situation. my adult son fell twice, second time bruised his ribs badly. Also there is danger of germs if you do not thoroughly clean the toilet and surroundings. in the kitchen its the stove and burns and the floor and slip and fall. and hallways that are badly lighted pose dangers for older people like myself who can trip over something and get hurt badly. In the kitchen keep flammable stuff away from the stove burners, and if grease cat hes fire in fryingpan put it out by smacking a lid down on it. dont throw water on a grease fire ever.

I know that home safety is a big issue since the home is the place where the most accidents can occur, which is really sad if you ask me,and I think that when it comes to the safety of the family, the most dangerous room is either the bathroom because a lot of people slip and fall in the bathtub and get hurt,or the kitchen because there is so many things that could cause you get hurt, since there are so many knifes and other cutting tools.

With all this techo stuff going on these days I think there are risks in every room now. I think the greatest risk room will always be the kitchen as the stove, kettle, washing machine etc are all in there.

Hi, About home safety for young children, what I think is as below: 1.kitchen.here is gas ,hot water, knife.Gas is mephitical, the hot water can scald us,our skin can be cut by the knife if you take a incaution. 2.small part, for instance, button, clip, pin, etc. They can be swallowed by children. 3.TV,circuit,facility with electricity. For example, washing machine, refrigeratory, etc So,we need to keep our kids out of it! Thanks!

My computer room I find is actually probably more hazardous since they can get into or sill things into the computer and get electric shock. Or the bathroom since that is where the hair dryers are located most times and kids likes to turn them on and if they are close to water then they can be electrocuted. Or the kitchen while cooking and they can pull stuff off the stove unto them and get burned,my sister did this when she was 4 and she got burned lucky the water hadn't started to boil yet. Or opening the oven and getting burned.. Never can be to careful so it is best to always unplug no matter what kind of hurry you are in and always turn handles away from stove and if you can use only back burners.

The kitchen has to be the room that poses the greater hazards for children as we keep all manner of utensils, from knives to sharp objects, from cleaning fluids and detergents, hot oven, boiling pots and pans on the stove! It's a danger area for sure and everything that could possibly pose a risk to children has to be kept well out of arms reach! You hear of so many horrific accidents caused in the kitchen by children reaching up and pulling at handles etc or getting hold of knives etc!

i think however one makes the room safe, children will find some means to make it unsafe.they would need somebody to constantly run after them.lol.

Hi ronald-I think the kitchen is the worst place especially for little ones and when you are cooking, little ones want to help in the kitchen or just stay next to mum whilst cooking and many a burn has been known to happen in there to children..there is always the cutlery drawers children get nosy and start wanting to play with knive and forks etc so there is also the danger of them cutting themselves..or if big enough turning the kettle on..squalds have been known there. It is the same for adults especially women who are in there cooking..so the kitchen to me is the most hazardous zone in the house for anyone...littleowl

i guess about the only thing i worry about is i have a gas hot water heater. it's in a closet & my grandchildren don't go in there but i do worry about it in case of a tornado.

Hi ronaldinu, The most dangerous room the your home is the kitchen, when food is cooking, you can have a nasty accident with hot oil or boiling water, espeacially children, so when you are cooking make sure all the hadnles are turned towards the back ot he cooker. Tamara

For the very young under 4 years every room and i would have to know the layout of the home to decide which room is likely to be the most hazardous For the elderly hands down the bathroom Hazards can vary from home to home carpets, liquid cleaning fluids, sharp corners and tables ,stairs etc etc It would vary from home to home Good Luck and Stay Safe
