Ever since George W. Bush's first successful bid at the White House the Democrats have used a parody of his middle initial to lampoon him. Prs. Bush used the middle initial "W" on campaign stickers, so why not? It seems like a logical thing for the oposition to do. But of course, the Dems seem to think they are the only ones allowed to make mockery of a politician by using and abusing the middle name. Anytime anyone pokes fun at Barack Obama by adding his middle name, we get threatened, shouted down and otherwise verbally (or textually) accosted for committing such an act of libel. A Sheriff in Florida is now facing some kind of BS investigation by the FBI for doing nothing more than saying Obama's full name. http://www.gopusa.com/theloft/?p=795 So, at the risk of ending up with those clean cut men in the white shirts and dark suits at my doorstep (no, not the Mormon missionaries, I mean the FBI), here is all I have to say about that bit of misuse of FBI authority. Hussein! Hussein! Your daddy named you Hussein! Don't wimper, don't whine, don't act all insane. Hussein! Hussein! Your mamma can't explain! Why she named her little boy, Barack Hussein. It's pathetic, we're not supposed to refer to him as "that guy" because he has a name, but that guy is so ashamed of his name he whines and cries just because people used it. Anyone who has ever refered to Prs. Bush as "Dubya", "The Chimp", "Georgie", "Shrub" or any other derivative of his name has not business correcting or calling anyone to task for using Obama's actual middle name.

Well, they don't like it -- he doesn't like it -- because it reminds people of Hussein in Iraq and they're worried people will think he is a terrorist too. Hmmmm.... I think there is enough other stuff to worry about over Obama's potential election that the name is nothing. However, I agree with you -- the names they use for President Bush are too much and inexcusable sometimes, and so they shouldn't be upset over names that their man gets called -- especially when it IS his name.

Ted, I'm sure even YOU know the reason for avoiding Obama's middle name. We shouldn't have to, but people are irrational about some things. Calling GWB "W" is simply using his initial and then exaggerating his Texas accent. Calling Obama "Hussein" immediately makes people connect him to another person named Hussein and they make an unfortunate and erroneous connection between the two. And, they are still doing it - they will call him Barack HUSSEIN Obama when talking about him (emphasis on the middle name) as though that proves somehow that he is not worthy of their respect. That's just plain ridiculous!! If it were only as sing-songy as your little ditty, there would be no problem. But, it goes beyond that and you know it. That's like associating everyone named Adolph with Hitler. And, people do - so many times, people with that name change it. You don't find too many Hitlers around any more either. And, it sure isn't because the original A.H. (Hmmmm - never associated his initials before with anything else. Funny.) was the only Hitler in the world. It's because people irrationally associate a name with someone ELSE with that same name. Unfairly. Unethically in today's world. Mr. Obama cannot control what his parents named him. It's not like he popped out of the womb with the speaking ability he has now, with the precognition that down the road he would be associated with Saddam, to be telling his mama, "Don't you DARE name me that - do you want to ruin my chance to become President some day?"

Just a bit off topic here, but I had a woman in the library last week whose last name was Hitler. I really felt bad for her. I asked for her last name when she put a book on hold and she spelled it rather than say it out loud. I certainly would have changed my name if it were Hitler.

I understand why he wouldn't want it used, but to go so overboard about it? FBI investigations? He could have diffused the entire thing if the first time a Republican tried to use it against him, he just laughed and said "yeah, the commedians are going to have fun with that, aren't they!" Instead he is using strong arm tactics against people.

It's racist to use his middle name. Everyone knows that. If I heard someone using my middle name in public like that I'd call the feds on them too.

Just a simple probate court proceedure to legaly change one's name. *shrug*. We're stuck with the name's our parent's give us until we are 18, after that, it's a choice. Don't like it? Think it may cause you problems? Have issues with someone using a legal name you were given at birth? Change it.

Do you think it is a coincidence that one of our forerunners' name is quite reflective of our "terrorists' Threats? I was amuzing myself earlier today with this thought. The middle name, of course...but Obama/Biden....Osama Bin Laden....say those each three times fast.. Now, so you know, this is the guy I support, but we wont go any farther with that one. Names are given by parents, and shouldn't be used as attacks on the person. Its childish, on all the parties....

Just for the record, that FBI investigation into the Sherrif has to do with the fact that he was supporting a particular political candidate while in uniform. Apparently this is not allowed. Obama has no problem with people using his middle name, if he was ashamed of it he would have changed it. It was his father's name, he was from Kenya, and like a lot of people he and his wife named their son after the father. It's as simple as that.

There is no comparison. "Dubya" is just a colloquial pronunciation of the middle initial itself, and the only reason that distinction exists is because his father, who has the same first and last name, was also President. It's used in all types of colloquial refereces to him, whether critical or casual, whether by a Dem, Repub, or Indep...endent (no good abbreviation of that one). On the other hand, people emphasize "Hussein" in Obama's name as a thinly-veiled attempt to associate him with people like Saddam Hussein, even going as far as to omit the last name completely (calling him "Barack Hussein") to make the reference even more obvious. This group of people never, ever refers to Obama's opponent as "John Sidney", and it's clear why. In fact, neither do Obama's supporters. And don't get me started on his opponents casually referring to him as "Osama" instead of "Obama", which is standard fare among the same group of people. It's all an attempt to make him sound like a scary guy, and only a fool wouldn't realize that. "Anyone who has ever refered to Prs. Bush as "Dubya"," I've heard several Republicans refer to him as that casually, so...are they mocking him too? "The Chimp", "Georgie", "Shrub" or any other derivative of his name" 1. "The Chimp" is a derivative of George W. Bush's name? 2. "Georgie"? Who calls him that? Also, wouldn't that be like calling McCain "Johnny" or Barack "Barry"? What's so disrespectful/mocking about that? Maybe a bit too 'familiar' to be socially 'appropriate' if you don't personally know these people, but beyond that, what's the big deal? 3. "Shrub" is simply a synonym of "bush", and in itself contains no negative connotation at all, lol. Would I also be mocking the President if I referred to him as "Foliage"? "has not business correcting or calling anyone to task for using Obama's actual middle name." You mean "has no business". Time to open that thesaurus and call me some more names now, I bet. :)
