I have a lot of books that I would like to sell away. Which is the best sites to sell used books? Do you have any experience on selling books? How do you go about doing it and what are some of the things (listing, shipping, etc) I need to look out for for the sites you mentioned? Thank you for your response!

I signed up with Amazon and sold loads of my second-hand books there. Some books sold for just a small amount of money, but you get more than enough postage usually so you will make a bit of a profit. I think it is better than just letting them gather dust on the shelves. Over the years I accumulated so many books that I had to store them in boxes in my attic room. Most of them are gone now.
I had about 3 boxes left that nobody seemed to want on Amazon and I sold those on ebay as a job lot. Somebody came along to my house with a van and took them all away in one hit.

I'm thinking of selling them on Amazon. How do you do it? Can you give some instructions on that? I don't think I want to venture into ebay just yet. Thank you for your response.

Hi Derek,
Thank you for the explanation. I have one question. If you sold your book for a penny, then aren't you losing money because you still need to pay for postage. Does Amazon reimburse postage fees? How does that work? Do we need to submit proof of postage or something to Amazon? Or do they pay a flat fee for postage? Really appreciate your patience and kind understanding to explain this to me. Thanks!

Amazon will pay postage into your account. They will send you an e-mail saying that you have sold the book, and the money is placed into your account with Amazon. There is more than enough postage for most books, but if you have a big and heavy book, you can be out of pocket with the postage, so it best to set the price high enough to be able to be in profit on larger books.

Hi Carmela,
I'm glad to find someone willing to buy. I have self-help books mostly and some navels. Some of them are in great condition, some read just once. If you are interested in these books, I can give you some of the titles. I don't mind sending them over to the Philippines if the price is right. What books do you read or looking for? I may find somethign for you. I will try to set up a blog to show you the books.

Hi AJ,
Thanks for dropping mby my discussion. I have a question. Would auction.ph require me to be based in the Philippines or any international users can join?

My first choice for selling books is always half.com. It's easy to list them, and the fees aren't too bad. I've also sold on Amazon, but someone here was complaining about the fees, and when I went to check I found that the commission Amazon takes has changed from a percentage to a flat fee of $1.35 per book. If the book isn't very valuable, you won't make much there. Unless you have something very valuable and desirable, eBay is the worst place to sell books. The competition is stiff, and setting up your sales is a pain in the butt. Also, the fees have gone so far out of sight that a lot of small sellers have given up on it.

I didn't realize that you can't use half.com. Another option is to trade. If you get credit for sending your book out to someone who wants it, and you can find a book that's worthwhile for you, then you've gained more or less the equivalent of cash. Of course, the cost of mailing books internationally would make it less valuable, but maybe there's a swap site in your country.

I love your comments in the different websites to sell books. I'm afraid half.com is only for US residents and I don't qualify. I was thinking of Amazon, but the fees does seem a little high, which means I have to sell my book at a higher price. I'm not venturing into ebay just yet, trying to seek other opps first. There is one company who takes used books here but at a flat rate of $1 per book. I don't think my book is worth so little, some of them are almost brand new! Thanks for the response!

I don't have a recent experience of selling used books. But we had local shops which took back the used ones if there was no name written on them. This was about few years ago. The book shop owners used to ask us to keep the books in presentable manner and not write the names. They then used to resell the books for half a price.

The second hand book stores here only take the ones we buy from them, not those we buy on our own. Thanks for the suggestion. Will continue to look around.

I wish that too. I'm trying to see if I can sell them on Amazon and eBay. If not, I have to set up a yard sale to get rid of my books.

I have sold books on ePier and eBay. I havent sold in awhile thou as eBay just seems to get more and more greedy. ePier is a great place BUT there isnt hardly any buyers, which is sad, most of the items just sit there.
There is a place called titletrader that you can trade books, DVD's and other items. Im a member there and really enjoy it.
Good luck with whatever you decide on.

I too have a lot of books I am thinking of selling away.
As the spring cleaning comes near, I am trying to get rid of some of the books I used to study when I was in Uni.
I wonder if they are still valuable today as it was when I was studying that many years ago.
Do share some of the sites you were successful at selling your books to.
Say, what kinda books are you selling?

I've sold books on Amazon before. It was easy and they pay it to your bank account if you want it that way. Another one would be half.com or Ebay. Also, if you have a used book store in your area, they lots of times will buy used books from customers.
Happy lotting.

I have been hearing about half.com. interested in that and maybe amazon, but I heard the fees is quite high for amazon, that true? Used book stores here take books they have sold themselves and refuse to take those we buy at other stores.
