Would You Shoot? |
|
If you caught an intruder breaking into your home, and you had a gun, would you shoot the intruder?
It's easy to conjecture about such things, but think about it, would you have the nerve to actually do it? My answer to my own question......I don't know. I realise that sounds like a cop-out but I guess it would depend on how frightened I was for my family or myself.

There are very few people that I would like to shoot in cold blood. Unless you're an individual with a very long history of angering me, I would be very reluctant to kill you.
So, to answer your question about if it was someone I knew well, I'd say...I would try to talk the person out of causing more chaos, unless that person decides to kill me, in which case, I'd try to incapacitate that person instead of killing him/ her.
And even then, I think I'd have the jitters before and after. But I will agree with zukepr in a way; my home is my sanctuary, and those that disturb its peace must suffer the consequences.
Saviour-V bows, and teleports out...

smithrogers (173) | 1 year ago | I think that if it came down to me and my family's lives or the life of a stranger endangering me and my family, not to mention, having a complete disregard for one's things, YEP! I never want to have to make that choice, but I would. I would suggest that anyone coming into my domain, threateningly, better haul some "tail" right back out, or they will have to feel my terror, and my "preservation action".

smithrogers (173) | 1 year ago | Do not get me wrong, human life is precious. But I am here as a parent and guardian of my children, and I will dutifully do that job. Not to mention, I do not want to die, either.

3. LilPixelle (618) | 1 year ago | It would depend on the situation, if he was threatening someone in my family, i would aim for the legs/arm or should, just to stop him, people forget that you can still be charged with murder even if it was in self defense, plus other peoples lives are still valuable even if they do INCREDIBLY stupid things... so yeah, I think I would shoot, but not to kill.

| |
|
|
singout (323) | 1 year ago | Now that's a possibility and an alternative. But I would suspect you would have to be pretty good with a gun. Those who aren't that good might have a problem hitting something of small mass such as a leg or an arm.
| |
|
|
| Dluther89 (9) | 1 year ago | If you have a gun, and cannot hit an arm or a leg, then I don't believe you should have one, since it would be in pretty close quarters. I personally wouldn't shoot someone that came into my house unless I knew they were coming ot hurt me. And I would shoot them to make them unable to come after me, not to kill.

singout (323) | 1 year ago | That's an alternative to be sure and a good one as long as you are comfortable with it. Thanks for the comment.

4. oderog (372) | 1 year ago | Here is choosing between life and death, remember if it happens that the intruder gets hold of your gun, I gurantee you, you will be short. If this person is capable of geting into your home do you think he is capable of sparing your life even for a moment. But if I can not shoot the person what I will probably pretend to be aiming the gun at him make my wide short and just let the person ran. Doing this will scare him and he will know that I was not afraid of him.

singout (323) | 1 year ago | It's great that you are so confident because that is what it's going to take to protect youself. Whatever you do must be deliberate without thinking. I would probably be dead because I would hesitate before shooting.

6. Arkie69 (1103) | 1 year ago | With me it would depend if they had something in their hand that could be a gun or knife. Otherwise I wouldn't shoot without warning them. A lot would depend on what kind of gun I had and what I could see to shoot at. If you are a fair hand with a gun you can stop a person without killing them. I would do all I could to avoid killing.

singout (323) | 1 year ago | If a person broke into my house he would probably get killed accidentally if he didn't kill me first. I probably would be firing all over the place being so nervous.

7. redhotpogo (1246) | 1 year ago | Most likely if the intruder came to harm your family you wouldn't know about it until it was too late. You're not going to get out your gun in time, and you'll just end up putting your family in even more danger. Most "intruders" are burglars looking to take something. If you "catch" one in your house most likely they were careless, and made some kind of noise that got your attention, and they don't want a confrontation with you, they just want to the hell out of there, before you do something to them. Its good to have a weapon on hand just in case you may need it, but shooting at people that come into your house..... a tad bit extreme.

singout (323) | 1 year ago | You must be very brave or very confident in strangers that come into your house unannounced. I would hate to be a thief. I would never know what awaited me when I broke into a house. Thanks for the response.

8. peedielyn (721) | 1 year ago | I have been in this situation before and always thought that I would freeze up and not do it. The time that it happened to me, I was pistol whipped by the intruder and his brother at the same time. One of them didn't realize that they dropped one of the guns and at that moment I stood up and seen my then 2 year old. I nailed the one in the knee cap. I ended up shooting him 3 times before I ran out of ammo. I was mad, and scared, and hysterical. I grabbed my baby, with gun in hand and ran through the house. The brother got away but that bastar* didn't and I had his dna all over the house. I am hostile when it comes to my family. I dare someone to do it again. I now own 2 12 gauges. Have a good night!

peedielyn (721) | 1 year ago | You are more than welcome hon! I just chose life over death is all. I remember that my dad told me to not be scared. God didn't invent fear--don't live that way. This little one was my last shot at motherhood and I dearly love her. I felt I was in my rights. Of course, I went to court and almost got charged with felonious assault and attempted murder. I decided to tell the judge how it was. I almost got jailed but I think that when I explained to him that both of these men were over 200lbs and 6 foot +, and My daughter and i didn't even rack up to 110 lbs The perps gun was all I had in defense. Now, I have a license to keep my guns in the house. Keep your head up and never fear! Have a good day!

singout (323) | 1 year ago | I'm sooo glad it worked out for you. I don't trust the courts to always do the right thing. There's so many ways for the courts to work against the victim it's pathetic. Thanks again.

9. Anchopy (1046) | 1 year ago | without a doubt.. I think that it's a hard choice to make, between taking someone's life and allow the stranger to break into my house.. but if I have to defend my family I think that I won't doubt to use the gun..

10. Opal26 (10105) | 1 year ago | Hey singout, I know that I would never want to be in that situation, but if I was I know that I would freak and freeze! But, I would hope that I would be able to shoot the sh!t out of whoever would dare to try to bust in and rob me or mine! But, I would not want to be tested and put in that situation to see if I could actually pull the trigger! I have always thought about taking target practice at a shooting range for my own protection so that I could if necessary use a gun properly. As scared as I am of guns, I have a morbid curiousity for them too!

peedielyn (721) | 1 year ago | Hello Opal, It never hurts to be prepared. Do it, you can learn not to be scared of them! Like they say, Knowlege is power, the more you know the less risk you could be at! And I hope it never goes that way, but if you do get into a situation like that, You can be prepared! Good Luck!!
