Going to a place the first time -do you take a map or seek directions? |
|
If you going to a place the first time do you take a map or seek directions from friends or relatives if you don't know where the place is? It happened to me last week, I had to go to a place which I did not know where it is even in our small island and I had to ask my friends for directions. © ronaldinu 2008

| 1. writerdave (41) | 1 year ago | I usually print out a map and get a cell phone number in case I get lost. I find that often Internet directions are more accurate than a friend or acquaintance's verbal directions; after all, they know the are and you do not.
Of course, a lot of cellular phones have GPS capabilities now, which would make it a lot harder to get lost.

6. Humbug25 (4101) | 1 year ago | Hi there ronaldinu
If I have never been somewhere before I will always get directions and read them several times before I go. I then try and write them out as simply as possible so that I can take quick looks at them if I need to . My eldest always sits in the front and helps if he can but although his reading is quite good it isn't good enough for road directions!

7. wolfie34 (13944) | 1 year ago | Normally I would consult a map because that will help me to get from A to B however when you are driving on your own the last thing you can do is have a map in front of you!!! So I usually ask family or friends for direction and hopefully try and remember it in my head, or I'll write it down memorize it and then pull over in the car and memorize the next part of the journey! I hate getting lost whilst driving!

8. maximax8 (10904) | 1 year ago | I have a map of my local area and another map of my surrounding area. I take them when I am going to a new location. If I am very unsure I look up a location on the Internet. I am very keen on traveling and in my travel guide book there is usually a map of each major city showing accommodation, sights and useful buildings like a central post office. I find the maps useful and in a smaller city I often get a map from the Tourist Information. I have had difficulty with finding my way around in Bulgaria because my map was in English and the street names were in Bulgarian. I got really lost and it was helpful when I found someone that spoke English. I also got lost in Estonia because most street names were not marked. I had an excellent map but with unmarked streets I had a hopeless time finding my accommodation. My son's pushchair was dropping to bits and I felt upset as well as confused. A local lady kindly helped me find the guest house and that was challenging. I asked a local lady with a child where I might be able to purchase a new pushchair. It was a bit easier walking back into town and I did manage to buy a new pushchair then return to the guest house.

10. sandymay16 (1330) | 1 year ago | I will going to another province next week for the first time. I will be staying there for 6 weeks. I am going with someone and we will be met at the airport on arrival day so we will not get lost or something. After that, we're on our own. i'll just take note of streets and landmarks of the places. Then I will ask for directions from host family and the people we will meet. usually, provinces that are not highly urbanized don't have maps with street names and all. It's very common in the Philippines not to rely on maps. And my going there involves map making in communities.
