Pebicab or Tricycle?...  email this discussion to a friend?

myLot reputation of 98/100. aseretdd (6862)   ranked 7 out of 3,627 in philippines 4 years ago

What do you have in your area... a pebicab or a tricycle?...

There are no pebicabs in my area... but i wish there are... since a pebicab ride is usually cheaper than a tricycle... and that there are less accidents that involve this mode of transportation...

Other than that... pebicabs do not use diesel or gasoline... so they are more environment friendly... and they take up less road space since they are quite smaller... i hope there will be more pebicabs because i surely prefer them rather than tricycles...

How about you... what co you prefer... a pebicab or a tricycle?...

I think tricycle is more cheaper than pedicab. We don't have pedicab here in our place. But in my school there are pedicabs and it is expensive. Each head cost 10 pesos and the traveling distance is short. Unlike in the tricycle it only cost 7 pesos, the distance is far, or 8 pesos in some areas if it is very far. I like to ride also in pedicabs it's fun. If you try to visit Intramuros you'll see pedicabs. And tricycle are faster than pedicab, if you are in a hurry. Good day!

myLot reputation of 98/100. aseretdd (6862)   ranked 7 out of 3,627 in philippines  4 years ago

The tricycle ride in your area is quite cheap... here in my place... the cheapes is 20 pesos... so pebicabs would cost less for 10 pesos... aside for that... a lot of tricycle drivers are quite reckless... they would always overspeed... so there are a lot of tricycle related accidents in my area...

Thanks for the response...

myLot reputation of 82/100. tikei18 (328)   ranked 173 out of 3,627 in philippines  4 years ago

Wow! 20 pesos is the cheapest? Is that a regular ride or special?
Here in our place the 7 pesos is the cheapest price for regular and 29 pesos is the cheapest price for special, the most expensive I think 42 pesos.

myLot reputation of 98/100. aseretdd (6862)   ranked 7 out of 3,627 in philippines  4 years ago

Well, that is an exclusive tricycle ride... because we don't really share rides here... and in some places... one ride would cost you 50 pesos... and that is just too much...

myLot reputation of 82/100. tikei18 (328)   ranked 173 out of 3,627 in philippines  4 years ago

Wow! Very expensive it's like riding a taxi. Pedicab would be more appropriate in your area. Good thing I don't live in your place. May I know what's your place?

myLot reputation of 98/100. aseretdd (6862)   ranked 7 out of 3,627 in philippines  4 years ago

Angeles City... the area near Clark is the place where tricycle cost a lot... because the drivers would charge the locals as if they are foreigners...

we dont really have much trike back home in Laguna. in our village there's only jeepneys. I would prefer to ride a trike than a pedicab. it's way faster. i know it is environment friendly but i want to reach my destination fast. plus i wont feel bad to the driver if we're to pass by a high road.

myLot reputation of 98/100. aseretdd (6862)   ranked 7 out of 3,627 in philippines  4 years ago

I agree... when one is in a hurry... it is better to ride a tricycle... but that is not always the case... another thing i like about pebicabs... is that they make less noise... because they don't run on motor... but i agree... i sometime feel pity for the driver when the road is going up... but that is a part of their job...

Thanks for the response...

Well in my area it so happen that we don't have both. I live in an area where there are large exclusive subdivision and my place is around that area that pedicaba nor the tricycle would not thrive as most have their own cars. I do live outside those subdivision and I have no car so I have to walk about several meters to get a jeep to go where I want.

myLot reputation of 98/100. aseretdd (6862)   ranked 7 out of 3,627 in philippines  4 years ago

Well, that is certainly not very good... what if you are in a hurry... or you are carrying a lot of things... a tricycle or pebicab ride would surely be great... there are a lot of luxury subdivisions in my area... but some would still allow tricycles inside...

Thanks for the response...

myLot reputation of 90/100. rsa101 (9174)   ranked 37 out of 3,627 in philippines  4 years ago

Yeah when it comes to emergency cases this place is not a good place to live in. But I like the place because it is a very peaceful community I could even see cars being parked outside their houses and it is not being harmed in any way at all. The nearest transpo that I could have is taxi cabs or if you would walk several meters away from my house are jeepneys.

myLot reputation of 98/100. aseretdd (6862)   ranked 7 out of 3,627 in philippines  4 years ago

Well, there is a price for everything... but as long as you live in a safe area... then that is a good thing...

Just like you I prefer a pedicab for the very same reason you mentioned. It's economical and safe. I don't like the tricycles in our place. At least 6 people can actually fit. 4 people in the inside, and 2 at the back. So crowded.

myLot reputation of 98/100. aseretdd (6862)   ranked 7 out of 3,627 in philippines  4 years ago

Oh my... that is like overcrowding and overweight... that is so not allowed... i would never ride a tricycle if it will fit that many people inside... and i don't think that can be the case in a pebicab... the driver would have a hard time peddling...

Thanks for the response...

myLot reputation of 94/100. yuna15 (1148)   ranked 90 out of 3,627 in philippines  4 years ago

It is actually allowed the tricycles in our place are slightly bigger for all of those people to fit. But it still feels crowded for me.

The price of the fare would be different with each place. We don't have pedicabs here at our town and the price for the fare just to go to out where the bus station is would be eleven pesos. Walk a couple of minutes more and it would be ten pesos and pass through a tunnel would get you a nine peso fare price. The closer you are to your destination, the cheaper the fare should be.

Comparing tricycles and pedicabs, we obviously know which ones are more convenient and friendly when it comes to the environment. For faster travel time however, especially for those who are in tight schedules, they would practically go with a tricycle.

As for me, I really don't like to ride tricycles since I am rather a tall person. The side car would have me hunched as well as the back ride.. not really convenient for me.

For short distances, pedicabs would be ideal while tricycles for long and far ones.

Pedicab

myLot reputation of 98/100. aseretdd (6862)   ranked 7 out of 3,627 in philippines  4 years ago

Thank yo for putting a photo of a pebicab... and i agree on the thing you pointed out... it would be great to have two choices in the area... but drivers do not want a lot of competition... so tricycle drivers would rather not compete with pebicab drivers... that is why here in my area... there are no pebicabs... but in another city there are no tricycles...

Thanks for the response...

myLot reputation of 99/100. ratyz5 (3638)   ranked 149 out of 3,627 in philippines  4 years ago

I was wondering myself why you didn't include an image on this discussion of yours.. considering that you have already participated in this site with over four thousand post thumbup

That's another thing about that kind of stuff, its really hard to implement things like that, choices for travel since if a prevailing mode of tranportation gets confronted with competition, they might not find it very convenient on their end. (-_-")

There was this incident here at our place when the main road became another convenient route for bus drivers to go by so that they can easily go straight to the express way but, inadvertently made tricycle drivers lose passengers since some of the buses that goes by had trips that passengers, who usually took tht tricycle ride to go to the bus station, where going to. Instead of riding a tricyle, they'd just wait along the main road until a bus comes along with the sign of the trip that they are going to.

The issue rather annoyed the tricycle drivers so one time, as a bus was going along the main road, a group of tricycle drivers on their tricycles blocked the way.

Count to think of it, the tricycle drivers shouldn't be complaining since the main road that the bus navigates through is open for the public and not exclusive for tricycle drivers alone.. then again, a competition as big as buses surely is crippling (-_- )

myLot reputation of 98/100. aseretdd (6862)   ranked 7 out of 3,627 in philippines  4 years ago

Well,i didn't have available photo in my laptop... and i did not think of searching one in the internet... but then... some drivers tend to think that they own the road... especially the tricycle drivers... they would think of many ways just to crush the competition... and most of the time... the commuters are the ones affected by this...

I think there should be a separate body that would regulate tricycle drivers... since their number is currently huge...

myLot reputation of 99/100. ratyz5 (3638)   ranked 149 out of 3,627 in philippines  4 years ago

That's okay, I sometimes don't include images as well on my discussions, and yours happens to be within the Philippines so everybody who would participate would definitely know pedicabs and tricycles. (^_^ )

You can say that again, sometimes, they even make their tricycle run too fast and breaking the red light. As if they're really in a race than just bringing their passengers to where they want to be at. Perhaps rushing somehow saves them more on whatever fuel they use? Then again, safety still should be a top priority, considering that a collision for such vehicles wouldn't assure either driver or passengers from any injuries..

I agree, some authority that manages public tranport vehicles that can accomodate to any type and wouldn't be doubted by either groups.

myLot reputation of 98/100. aseretdd (6862)   ranked 7 out of 3,627 in philippines  4 years ago

One time... i rode a tricycle with my daughter... i had to shout at the driver to slow down because he was really speeding... i hope the police would give them a ticket or get their license everytime they do that...

myLot reputation of 99/100. ratyz5 (3638)   ranked 149 out of 3,627 in philippines  4 years ago

Traffic enforcers like that wouldn't be around in town like ours so speeding is sometimes practiced and with no hesitation, as long as the road is wide open for them to full throttle.. (-_-")

If there was some group that would apprehend them, they might as well get them to attend some seminars while the public gets notified of their improper driving conduct.

myLot reputation of 98/100. aseretdd (6862)   ranked 7 out of 3,627 in philippines  4 years ago

I guess it needs to start in the barangay level... since there are not that many police around to patrol the streets and alleys... Barangay officials in my area are now giving warnings to tricycle drivers who tend to charge a lot... and i think that is a good start...

myLot reputation of 99/100. ratyz5 (3638)   ranked 149 out of 3,627 in philippines  4 years ago

That is indeed a good start (^_^ )

How many warning can those offenders get until they get a reasonable punishment? confused

what we have in our place is tricycle that they have to use gas and something that uses their feet like how you did with bicycle.

well , in ours i hope we have jeepneys but i know i have to understand that the drivers of motorcycles and tricycles just wanted to live and survive this life.

myLot reputation of 98/100. aseretdd (6862)   ranked 7 out of 3,627 in philippines  4 years ago

So your place has both... tricycles and pebicabs... if the streets are quite small... then the two are the best way to go... since jeepneys would surely crowd the streets... and there will be less space for people to walk to... and the competition would be tough... since most people would rather ride the jeep since they are cheaper and a lot faster than the two...

We don't have either one, although an aunt of mine who lives in Florida takes her wash from her apartment to the community laundry room on a tricycle that she peddles herself. She is so totally cool. I have never ridden either one, so it would be hard to choose. Where we live, people who want small conveyances use golf carts, but I don't have one of those either. I'd love to try riding a Segway, but honestly I'd be too embarrassed to try one because they are so unusual that when one surfaces they sort of stop traffic. I wouldn't want to cause an accident.

The Segway is very interesting... i saw some actors using the same thing in some tv series... but that is not convenient in my country... since the heat of the sun and dust would surely make the rider uncomfortable... i think your aunt uses the pebicab... since she peddles herself... and tricycles usually have a motor to run...

Thanks for the response...

myLot reputation of 96/100. drannhh (9911)  4 years ago

Yes, the word means something quite different here--here it is just a bicycle with three wheels and generally not motorized--usually a toy for children to little to ride a bike. But here is a picture of what we call an adult tricycle and this is what my relative uses to carry her laundry:

myLot reputation of 98/100. aseretdd (6862)   ranked 7 out of 3,627 in philippines  4 years ago

That is definitely different from our local tricycle... more like a pebicab... but the back part is much smaller... but it looks cute... your aunt must be enjoying her ride everytime she peddles it...

I assume a pedicab is a trisikad right, a bicycle connected to a side car?

We have a lot here where I live. In fact, i ride it to get into where I live because it's quite far from the main road. Fare is only 5 per head for a 10-minute ride with a lively conversation with the driver added for free.

myLot reputation of 98/100. aseretdd (6862)   ranked 7 out of 3,627 in philippines  4 years ago

Wow... what a cheap way to get to your home... it usually cost me 25 pesos to go to my office using a tricycle... and i wonder how much it would cost me if there were pebicabs available... maybe way cheaper than that...

We don't have pedicabs either on our village since most of the roads there are uphill. I agree they are more environment friendly and cheaper. However sometimes I pity the pedicab driver when his passengers carry heay stuff and it would be hard for him to drive it. Maybe pedicabs would be good for short trips.

myLot reputation of 98/100. aseretdd (6862)   ranked 7 out of 3,627 in philippines  4 years ago

Well... i think most pebicab drivers are already used to that... and they prefer to have a lot of passengers with longer trips because that would mean more payment for them... and that is decent way of earning a living...

Well to tell you the truth I do not know what is a pebicab.......I am hearing the name for the first time.Perhaps its like the three wheeler "auto rikshwas" we have here....But they run on petrol and the drivers charge heavily. But 3 people can sit comfortably in it....But unfortunalety I cannot sent you a pic now.......(I have to reach 500,no)....

myLot reputation of 98/100. aseretdd (6862)   ranked 7 out of 3,627 in philippines  4 years ago

Yes... it is like a rickshaw... but instead of a motor... a bicycle is attached to it... a picture was uploaded by one of those who responded to this discussion... and there are other forms... like some pebicabs have the bicyle attached infront... and they usually do not charge a lot because they don't use any gasoline... just muscle power...

Thanks for the response...

myLot reputation of 94/100. Roseo8 (1065)  4 years ago

Oh yes I did have a look at the photo you mentioned.Actually cycle rickshwas were there in my place too ,but now man power is being replaced by gasoline.....

myLot reputation of 98/100. aseretdd (6862)   ranked 7 out of 3,627 in philippines  4 years ago

I think that is a good thing... since man powered rickshaws are far better than motor powered because they are more environment friendly...
