The Pumpkin Carving Party was a HUGE success!

We had a party yesterday... a pumpkin carving party. My family was here and we each had a huge pumpkin to carve into a jack-o-lantern.
It was SUCH fun!!! This was my first attempt at "mass carving" and also my first at some really intricate carvings. It was SO MUCH FUN!!! I highly recommend having one with your friends/family next year or even this year if you haven't carved one yet!
We ordered pizza delivery and just kept on carving! We used specific pumpkin carving tools, steak knives and a Dremel drill. (Safety goggles are VERY necessary when using the drill... specks of pumpkin go EVERYWHERE! LOL)
I know, I know, you all want pictures. I promise, as soon as I find my camera, there will be pictures! I'm so proud of our creations!
I'd love to see YOUR jack-o-lantern if you've carved one this year. (I'll show you mine if you show me yours!) Have you carved one already? Are you planning to? Ever enter a carving contest?
Happy Halloween!!!

I don't do pumpkins anymore really.
Too many thefts and damaging of them in my area to waste the cash on them.
But I did go to the Nature Center with my youngest grandson recently.
They had hundreds of carved pumpkins lit on the trails. Here's a sample of one trail with about 50 pumpkins lining the sides of the trail.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

What a shame! It makes me so angry that we've have to stop doing some things we've always done and things we like doing because of thieves and just plain destructive morons!
Yeah, you almost need to have guards and security cameras on pumpkins these days to keep them safe.
Hmmm, now that's an idea! Have a sign in front of your pumpkin that says "SMILE! You're on camera! Trying to steal this pumpkin? Then you'd better smile because you won't be smiling once the police get the videotape of you stealing this pumpkin!"
You wouldn't need a security camera, though. Just making the would-be thieves THINK there is one is enough.
I hope you had a great time with your grandson on that trail! That's a great idea! I've never seen so many jack-o-lanterns in one place before! I would LOVE to do something like that! I'd actually go looking for something around here but, after yesterday's fun, I can barely MOVE today! I don't know whether to laugh or cry!
Fibromyalgia sucks!!!

There were maybe 6 trails with this many and more lining them.
We had a blast.
This is a shot of one of the best pumpkins there.
I have it on my webistes page as well.

What a wonderful report. It's too bad we could not be there. I would sure love to attend such a party, so creative and ingenious. We don't have such parties like that in my neck of the woods. Cheers!!

Hi, underdog! I think everyone should have a party for stuff like this. I was even thinking of mentioning that to someone of authority in the town so maybe we could organize a really big pumpkin-carving night! We live in the country... farm land, but the town is just about 8 miles from us and I would love to have a really big party. Imagine the fun!
I'll have pictures for you tomorrow. I had lost my camera for awhile but found it last night. Whew! Just in time! LOL
Take care and Happy Halloween!

Hi, littleowl! Don't you just hate it when life gets in the way of our having fun? LOL
I do hope you get the chance to work on your pumpkin soon if you haven't already! If not, you can always use it to bake a pie!
Happy Halloween!

Sounds like your family had a blast. I hope you did this outside and not in the house. I would hate to have to find all the pumpkin splatter in the house, if it was that messy.
We have carved pumpkins years ago but don't do it anymore since we don't have kids at home and they probably wouldn't be interested in doing it with their kids. We don't even have kids coming to our house out here in the country, so we don't even have to buy candy for Halloween.

Oh, we did have a blast! Laughing, talking, enjoying our pizza, making a mess, etc. Yes, we made a mess and we did it inside! I cleaned off our dining room table, put one of those inexpensive plastic table clothes over it and we just went to town! The worst of the mess came with my son by using a Dremel drill. It worked really well but it sure did make a mess! He had to wear safety goggles because his pumpkin splattered everywhere! Luckily, he blocked most of it from getting past him. LOL He had on a black shirt when he came in but left with a black with orange speckled shirt when he left.
We live out in the country, too. We moved here last year in May but kept the lights off because it was such a hectic year that I simply didn't have the energy for Halloween.
This year, I do. I just don't know how mnay kids we'll see, if any. I'm just glad that the candy I bought is stuff I like... just in case no one comes to get any. I'll just have to be careful not to eat too much too fast! I just recently lost 20 pounds and I don't want to put it back on!

I have never carved a pumpkin. I wouldn't even know where to start. It sounds like fun and I would like to try it. First I would have to see someone else carve one. I would like to see a picture of your pumpkin. I am sorry I don't have one to show you.

There are plenty of sites on the net that show you how to carve a pumpkin, Chevee. There are also plenty of free patterns you can print as well. You just HAVE to try it, at least once!
I had lost my camera for awhile but found it last night. I'll be taking pictures of the pumpkins when it gets dark as well as some of the trick-or-treaters. I'll post them here tomorrow.
Since you don't have one of your own, we'll all share ours (Come on, guys... share!) with you!

Well, I have been doing small pumpkins, which I think are harder to carve. Also, all I have are kitchen knives and it's really hard to control the design, so I find it really hard to make anything that isn't terribly simple. But I do it anyway. I also take the seeds and salt them and roast them. I don't really like them, but I eat them anyway.

Small pumpkins ARE harder to carve! I'm impressed that you do it with just kitchen knives! Wow! My pumpkin is huge and I had trouble with a kitchen knife! Luckily, I had bought one of those cheap little carving sets that includes two tiny saws. They make carving SOOOOOO much easier!
I roast the seeds, too. I did that yesterday. I'm not big on salt, so I only use a tiny bit of it but also use other spices. Gives the seeds a different taste but, to me, they're even tastier than with just salt.
It's good that you eat them! They are chock full of vitamins, protein, fiber, etc. VERY healthy for you!

We had a blast, rose! We laughed, talked, enjoyed our pizza, made a mess and just had fun all around.
I finally found my camera last night so I'll be taking pictures of our masterpieces tonight after it starts to get dark. Hopefully, I'll also get a few trick-or-treaters to pose for me as well.
This was the first pumpkin-carving 'party' I've ever had and I'm so glad I thought of it! You've just got to take advantage of every moment you can to enjoy life just a little bit more.
I cleaned and roasted the seeds yesterday. Well, some of the seeds... I was left with a ton of them! LOL I don't use nearly the amount of salt that the packaged ones do; instead I use a little salt and other seasonings. Everyone loves them!
It made me think of doing this every year (roasting the seeds) without using salt at all and making sure the pumpkins are grown completely organically, then selling the seeds... 100% organic AND salt-free! Also, extremely healthy, chock full of vitamins, fiber, etc. Who knows? This might just be what I'm destined for! (I doubt it, but we'll see.)

wow that sounds fun! what a great party idea! ive never entered any contests, but i do love carving pumpkins with those Pumpkin Master pattern books! they make it so easy to get really neat looking jack-o-laterns.
we didnt carve any pumpkins this year. not really a point to, the most kids we get is 1 or 2 for the past 4 years or so. there is only 1 street light at the very end of the street and even if all the houses had their porch lights on, it would still be pretty dark. as a parent, not a street id want my kid to walk down, so not surprising that other parents avoid it too lol!
ive never been able to carve a pumpkin without getting the guts all over the place and all over me too boot! i can just imagine the mess using a dremel would make! but i sure bet it made some of the carving go a lot faster! in my head im picturing what happens when you accidentally lift the handheld mixer too far out of the batter..and it goes spraying all over! LOL!

Hahahaha! Oh, we made a mess all right! I had cleaned off our dining room table and bought one of those inexpensive plastic table clothes at a dollar store so we could make as big a mess as we wanted, then I could just fold it up and throw it all away. MOST of the mess was confined to the table.
My son used the Dremel drill for his entire design and HE got the worst of it! LOL He had to wear safety goggles, though. It was spattering all over him!
He came over with a black shirt on but left with a black speckled with orange shirt. Yeah, I had some cleaning to do, but it really wasn't that bad.
We really had a blast! I'm going to do this every year as long as I can.

Hi, twoey... I used a template, also. I added a bit to it because it seemed kind of plain but mostly it was done with a template.
My husband designed his own and really amazed me! His sister always said that all his taste is in his mouth but he actually has a pretty good artistic eye... for jack-o-lanterns, anyway.
I'd never win any contests, personally, but never wanted to so that's not an issue. It's all about fun, anyway, right?

honestly, I have never celebrated Halloween before.
I am sure your party to carve the best looking Jack-o-lantern must have been loads of fun.
Imagine, having a common activity where everyone in the family can enjoy. Quality time spent together with the family is priceless!
Heck yeah, the way you describe your party, it must have been one heck of a fun event. Of course we would love to see some pictures.
If you need a site to host your pictures and get paid for it, let me know. I may just have the site to do just that! PM me if you are interested.

Oh, that is good news indeed.
If he regularly takes pictures, he can create a portfolio there.
I have a few more site for making money off pictures. But I have yet to fully explore them yet. Among those on my list, there is one that buys stock photos as well.
I sure hope the both of you can take a look at the site. Then join up and send me the links to your pictures. I will definitely support by looking at all of the pictures you upload.

As soon as I get the pictures uploaded from my camera, I'll get 'em here! It just takes me forever to do stuff like that! Details! LOL
Thanks for the heads up about the site! My son would probably be very interested in something like that... he takes AWESOME photographs!

We carve anything we can get our hands on. LOL We did ours last night. My three children and I. We do it every year and it is a ton of fun. We painted a few gords and squash and pumpkins the other day. Then last night we carved our big big pumpkin which we made charlie brown in the ghost outfit. Lots of holes hehe. There is a pumpkin that lost his lunch. His guts are pouring out his mouth. One is Skelington Jack from Nightmare before chirstmas which we watched afterwards. Another gord has been shot between the eyes. LOL We roasted the seeds and snacked on them. Super fun. Can't wait to go out tonight with the children. Halloween is my favorite holiday.

Hahahaha! Sounds like you guys had a really good time! I think it's always better when you do things like this with family and/or friends.
Can we get a picture of your jack-o-lanterns? I'm taking pictures tonight and post them here tomorrow.
I roasted the seeds yesterday myself. I MUCH prefer the home-roasted ones to the packaged ones... they're just too salty for me! I add different spices to mine and everyone loves them! Well, except my husband. He won't even TRY them, big baby! LOL

Unfortunately, I didn't have time to do a pumpkin this year. Writing and a regular job kept me busy and now I know what they mean by "all work and no play makes Jill a dull girl!" ! I had a lot of fun last night, the kids were terrific and some were very creative. One in particular made me smile all night.

Last night? Isn't today Halloween? I used to live in a tiny little town that "shared" Halloween with the town next to us. We'd celebrate Halloween over two nights. Our town shipped the kids to the next town one night, then they'd do the opposite the next night. Is that what it's like where you live?
Isn't it fun to see the cute and sometimes scary costumes they come up with? I might just keep my camera handy to take some pictures. That is, if we get ANY trick-or-treaters. We live on a private road with 7 other families and, to my knowledge, only one of them has any kids. We shall see!
