I Can Hardly Wait to Eat This |
| |
| Some of my myLot friends have already commented on my new tomato avatar. This came in an AeroGrow seed kit along with some yellow tomatoes and that plant produced a little earlier, so we have been enjoying eating those, but have not yet tasted any of our own homegrown red ones yet. It took a little over two months for the plants to grow indoors with their roots in the water and bright lamps overhead. After waiting and anticipating this first red tomato for so long, it had better taste really good! The kit had both red and yellow ones, and the yellows grew faster, so we have been eating a few of those and they are delicious. It is just that it takes them so long to ripen even after the little baby tomatoes get big enough to see. Is there any food that you waited a long time in anticipation of eating? Did it live up to your expectations? At the risk of making everyone here hungry, please describe the food you had to wait to eat! Why did you have to wait? Will you want it again soon? Will you get it again soon? Have fun with this:-}Below is a bigger photo of my new avatar: | | My first red AeroGarden tomato | | | | |

| | That yellow tomatoes does look yummy... so juicy and sweet... now my mouth is watering... i want one too... Well, a few hours... i was so hungry... i was in a meeting that lasted for about three hours... and since i did not eat any breakfast... and i was not able to take early lunch... but the time it was finish... i was so hungry i can eat anything... my companion and i went to a restaurant and asked them the fastest food they can cook in the menu... we ordered that... but we still waited for like 20 minutes... and when it was served... well... good thing it was worth the wait... since the chicken was quite delicious... and i ate every bit of rice on my plate... I will surely order that food again even if i am not that hungry... | | | | | | |

| | When you are very hungry, twenty minutes is a long time to wait in a restaurant where you can see and smell the other people's food! We ate some of our yummy greens for dinner tonight, both lettuce from our garden and also some cooked greens that go good with potatoes and sausage. I love to eat food that we grew ourselves. | | | |

| | There are a few foods that are amazingly simply to grow and anyone could do it, but this is just not commonly known. I am working on some articles designed to show people how easy it is. I'm learning that tomatoes are really not all that difficult, if one is not concerned with optimal yield. I'm not fussy about the quantity of fruit we get as long as it is delicious and makes an interesting houseplant. | | | |

| | Before i venture into gardening again... i decided to buy a plant that is already in a pot... just to see if i have that green thumb... since my first attempt was a dismal failure... if the one i bought lives a long time... then i will certainly try growing simple veggies in my small apartment... | | | |

| | Are we talking about food that we grow ourselves and then wait? Or are we talking about food we get from the restaurant? Because last Friday night, Boyfriend and I went to a favorite Chinese restaurant and because I've been craving their wonton soup, burned my tongue from tasting it even though the bowl was still steaming hot. But I think you're talking about garden-grown food here and again, I haven't had any of those. Until now, my pots of basil and whatever I have out there are still tiny... I don't know, I haven't checked on them for a while now since I am no longer interested (discouraged is more like it). Do you think it would be too much to put this Aerogrow on my Christmas wish list? I really want to take a bite off that tomato. And I don't even crave tomatoes. | | | | | | |

| | We can talk about any kind of food at all whether in a restaurant or a festival or as in my case on the table next to me! It is really easy to grow basil in water, but I don't have any tips for growing it in dirt. There I would be discouraged too! Oh, and I ALWAYS burn myself on wonton soup. It is so good that I cannot make myself wait. Hubby pours a little ice water in his. The smarty! | | | |

| | You had your plants growing 'out' where Ms Saintly? I got pretty discouraged myself with my attempts at having tomatoes and basil to eat throughout the winter... WAH! I want one of those kits too!!! | | | |

| | The kits do make it really easy. No, patience is the only method hubby knows for not burning one's mouth on egg rolls...that or dip them in the wonton soup after it has been iced down, but sorry, to me that is yuck. | | | |

| | My pots are out there, Ziggy but I don't think I can say the same for whatever they were that I was trying to grow for months. Apparently, my thumb could get swollen but it will never be green. | | | |

| | that is a pretty nice looking tomato! i once was growing sugar snap peas and onions. the sugar snap peas actually grew pretty fast..but it never is fast enough lol! but they were worth waiting for..i just love how they snap lol!! the onions i weekly dug around to see if they were ready yet..which didnt help their whole growing process one bit im sure! they took months! not sure how long they shouldve taken..but im positive i made it longer just by being over-anxious and "checking" on them! i really must learn to exercise that little smidgen of patience i DO have! | | | | | | |

| | Yes, I am an over-anxious gardener too. I'm growing snap beans for the first time and got so excited when the first small pod appeared. So excited that I have a little growth chart for it recorded on a 3 x 5 card to see how much longer it gets every day or week or whatever, assuming the birds don't get it first. The pot is eye level on the window sill of our porch and in a limb of a tree just across the sidewalk I'm sure I saw a bird getting interested in the plants, but it was probably the cherry tomatoes he hoped to snag. Hubby and I have a small bet going as to whether or not the bird will figure out how to get inside and beat us to the porch tomatoes. This is is inside, so it is safe. | | | |

| | Great looking tomato - good job! I planted a very small garden alongside my house and in a few containers this year and did pretty well. I don't even like tomatoes, but I had several plants for my husband and they grew very tall and bore wonderful fruit. He was very happy with what I was able to do and reaped the benefits of my meager labors. I had a couple of cucumber plants and I couldn't wait for them since I love to make a cucumber salad. They sure were good, fresh from the garden. I also had a few bean and snap pea plants, but I ate most of those straight from the plant before I even got into the house! | | | | | | |

| | You are my kind of gardener! I eat things straight from the plant, too, especially these indoor grown things that have not had bugs crawl all over them. The tomatoes we grow taste much different from the ones in the grocery store, don't they! I am doing cukes and snap beans too, and bought the pea kit for our AeroGarden, but have not tried that one yet. | | | |

| | Thank you subha, and perhaps you also grow methi? That crop is not widely cultivated here, but I grow mine and enjoy eating it over potatoes, sauteeed in a skillet, maybe with egg, too. Bringles is a new word to me, though. I have heard the expression "pickled bringles" before but have no idea what that is. Can you describe bringles for me? | | | |

| | Actually I bought an AeroGarden not that long ago. And I like the idea of it being inside and not having to worry about the bugs. My first items I grew was the different types of lettuce. I was disappointed in it because the lettece tasted funny and when you put the salad dressing on it. It wilted the lettuce it was like it wasn't crunchy. So I was thinking of buying some tomatoes and trying that. So have they tasted just like the tomatoes in the store? Really juicy and flavorful? Let me know you may make up my mind to try them out again. After the lettuce I just cleaned it up and I haven't used it. I was going to save it when I want to make my own seedlings for my garden outdoors. But if I can get some fresh tomatoes now that would be great. | | | | | | |

| | I have not tried the official AeroGrow lettuce kits, but the romaine lettuce we bought from Johnny's Seeds (the pelleted Green Forest Organic) was crisp and delicious and grew huge. As it is cut and come again we did enjoy quite a few salads from that. We did grow their tomato kit though, and although the golden cherries started ripening first and they are quite delicious, both the taste and the texture of the red one, which we ate tonight, was just outstanding. It had so much flavor, I could hardly believe it. It may have been a bit riper than the yellow ones we ate though, so I'll let the next yellow ripen more and see if it compares. I prefer just starting the tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, etc., in the AeroGarden and moving them into a separate pot once they are off to a good start because we could be eating a whole lot of salad greens in the time it takes to grow a few tomatoes. But as hubby said tonight, "That was worth waiting for!" Well, I fed him our first jalapeno tonight, too. | | | |
