Please can you read the discussion? |
|
I have noticed that a lot of people don't read the discussion they just read the subject and thats it!
The subject isn't always the only question and some times really doesn't have much to do with the actual discussion! For instance I have a discussion out there with the subject "how do you do it and what do you call it" The discussion is do you vacuum or dust first and do you call a vacuum - a vacuum sweeper or what. My point is that first line has really nothing to do with a vacuum - you would ONLY know that if you read the discussion part.
Or there is my "perfect present" discussion where it talks about what is the perfect present YOU bought for some one else - not what YOU get for you. Again you would ONLY know that if you read the WHOLE discussion!!
What discussions have you started that people were totally off base in responding to? Are you guilty of NOT reading the WHOLE discussion?? Do you post a question in the subject or a general idea or some thing else?

2. saundyl (4269) | 1 year ago | I noticed a few people having this issue lately.I've had it a couple times myself but cant remember a specific discussion. I tend to think ummm yeah they didnt read what i wrote before answering.
On occasion I'm guilty of not reading the whole discussion I latch on to the part i understand or have an answer to and run with that. Some times im guilty of not having the on topic answer for a discussion because i misunderstood what the original poster meant when they were talking.
I try to put a general idea in the subject not a question lately because then people seem to actually read the discussion to find out my point.

3. thebeaddoodler (2765) | 1 year ago | A lot of people read the subject line and maybe one or two lines of the discussion, completely ignoring the real jist of the discussion. You can get some really weird responses. I've even gotten responses that prompted me to respond, "OK, but what has that got to do with this?", because the response was completely different.
I think some people set a quota for responses and discussions started and just go through clicking and not reading. What a waste of time. The real purpose of myLot is to SOCIALIZE! But then we've all been in a gathering where there's this one person that just can't bear to be left out of any conversation and their responses make everyone do a double take and say HUH?

4. EAStanley (2029) | 1 year ago | I always read the whole discussion. If I open it and find that it is just too long to read the whole thing, then I make note of what interest category it is in, so that I can come back to it later. There is nothing wrong with waiting until your head is clear, you are more awake, you have more time, you know that you wont' be distracted while trying to type your response, etc. and so on. That's much better than just typing whatever just to be able to respond to it. As long as no more than a day or two go by, it should still be okay to come back and respond to it when you are more able to. I used to feel like I needed to be the FIRST to respond to a topic, but now I know that that's not true. If I have something to say, but no time to say it at the exact time that I discover the topic, then I make note of where it is, and come back later when I DO have time to give my full attention to reading the WHOLE Discussion and to responding with 100% effort.

5. YamiKiba (577) | 1 year ago | Oh man I always read through the discussion because I can speedread when I am on the net and if I don't get it the first time, I always try to reread so I can give the best quality response possible. And I don't know if it counts but I've started very specific topics in one of the anime sections and some people just responded with a very general/vague comment like "Thanks for sharing" and saying that it was interesting and could not watch it since they did not have cable when I mentioned I streamed it for free online in the first post. .xD;. It's not like I'm too bothered by it since not very many people respond to me in my favorite section nowadays and my star rating has gone down because of it, but I'm still happy to get responses.

9. Jimeous (724) | 1 year ago | What discussions have you started ...... None so far, I haven't started many.
Are you guilty of.... Nope, but I do sometimes find the Topic Posted and the content of their post less interesting than the other replies in the thread. Am I guilty because I tend to respond to those parts of the discussion, then yes. I sometimes stray away from the questions being asked by the Main Poster. This is sometimes to elaborate on the parts of the replies which I can offer more explanation, but it is the "gist" of the subject being discussed.
Do you post a question.... I've only started a couple of New Discussions, so I can't say I habitually will start with a Topic Question...

ebsharer (2474) | 1 year ago | Some times the subject looks intresting then you get to the discussion and its boring. I click out of those and go on to the next. I don't think that if you read a discussion you HAVE to respond to it. Some people do think that.
