My neighbor is threatening to shoot my dog.

My neighbor has goats you see. Well, my dog is half wolf and half huskey so the goats smell like a steak to him.
We have a fenced in yard but he is so big he gets through it or over it or somehting. I'm thinking i have to keep him chained up from now on.
Which is not a problem because I used to do that with my other dog i had a few years ago. And she didnt really mind. Dogs aren't really suposed to be running loose all over the place anyways, it's just rude and unsafe really.
Should I rig up one of those wire things that runs from tree to tree so he can run freely through the yard without being stuck against a tree?Or do you think I should just get a long enough chain so he can be tied to a tree adn still enjoy some freedom.
I dont think an electric fence will hurt him enough to keep him away from the goats.
Any suggestions? Has anyone here ever had this problem? Please share.
Thank yoiu!@

Yes, you have a problem. Dogs and livestock don't go together if the dog is doing what comes natural to it.
Friends of mine have no fence and they have set up a wireless perimeter which triggers a special dog collar to zap the dog a jolt if it passes the 'fence'. It works well with their labradors but I don't know it will work in your case. His will may be too great.

wow u really r in a dilemma because that lady has every right to be upset especially if ur dog poses a threat to her goats. i think put up a nice high fence so he has room to roam, but make sure u put concrete around the bottom of the fence so he can't dig his way out.

yah that would be ideal but i dont have the money right now to offord that. /fences are so expensive. I'll come up with something. But im thinking i might have to find a new home for him if he's not getting enough exercise.

That is a good idea. A dog run. Anything that will help the cause and it still lets the dogs stretch their legs heh?
The dogs can stay safe and so can other animals. I believe that animals such as dogs really like to be sociable but you can't be too careful around other animals that you don't really know.
This is a good suggestion for some people.

I think it would be better to have him on the wire because he could get wrapped around the tree. I hope he is not left out too long on his own because dogs are very sociable animals.

Yah that was my worry too. that he would get all tangle around the tree.
We have another dog too she is very small , a miniature dauschund... but they are pretty playful with eachother...
She will be out there with him and I dont beleive in letting the dogs outside for more than 2-3 hours at a time. So he willhave plenty of cuddle time during the day.

The run is the best idea, most dogs quite like them, but make sure it's strong enough to hold him lol. I'd also make sure it is fairly low to the ground, I have known dogs to get tangled in a run, and I'm always paranoid that they'll manage to hang themsleves if the run wire is too high.

I have a couple of friends with wolf dogs and they use the shock colors on them. Them have more freedom and the shock isn't enough to hurt them just enough to make them know they can't go there. It seems to work so far. This might be something to consider. I don't know much about electric fences except the wild animal park in colorado that my friends own. They arm the fences at night. None of the animals have ever been harmed, I asked them because it looks like it would hurt. I would make sure the fence is well made and use the shock collar. That seems like it would take care of the problem. I sure hope yoi can find something to keep your beautiful dog safe and the neighbor's goats too. Good luck with this.

First of all, beautiful dog. Second...I believe it would be very illegal for your neighbor to shoot your dog, so tell him you will press charges if he does. But he can still try to get that dog taken away from you.
I think you should just fix your fences problems. If he is big enough to get over it, just build the fence high enough so he can't get over it. If he is getting through the large gaps in the fences wiring, make the spaces small enough so he can't get through. If you have a good fence, you don't have to worry about him getting out. Is your fence wired or brick/stone?
Good luck!

Is it too late to discipline the dog? In as much as they have very sensitive nose I think he would always smell him. I hope it is more cheaper to discipline him.
