Can you concentrate writing while listening to music? |
|
I think many people get distracted in their writings while listening to music. I can't blame you, it is sometimes difficult to come up with ideas when we have our headphones stuck to our ears. Ideas just doesn't flow smoothly but I am just the opposite. Music inspires me and the more aggressive the music the more good ideas keep pouring in to my head. I am doing just that right now multi tasking, reviewing in slicethepie while posting and responding here. But it doesn't do justice to any one site as my attention is then divided between writing and listening and at the end of the day nothing seems to excel. But I guess this is how I motivate myself to find peace in music rather then the cold silent night. How about you? Does that makes your mind work?

31. liisafiat (515) | 1 year ago | Yes...No- I can write when I listen to music, but then I write slower...
So basically music distracts me from the writing.
I remember in my primary school a teacher of my native language during a writing test turned-on music. And I guess we had the worst test results in that class ever!! We made more grammar mistakes and misspelling in words, plus some did not finish the test or write the essay!

33. CRSunrise (1743) | 1 year ago | I can concentrate if I'm doing homework like math or fill in the blank. However, any kind of reading homework, I would need a certain amount of quiet.
Although, I haven't had to do any type of school work for about 5 years.;-)

34. AndrewFreyne (2619) | 1 year ago | This is quite interesting! I'm actually listening to music right now with my headphones on, even as I respond to this discussion. I have two processes of Internet Explorer open, one with which I am logged into My Lot and the other with which I am logged into my playlist account which is where I keep all my favourite music. Anyway, I'm diverting from the discussion at hand! I find that music helps me concentrate as it really relaxes me! I study at the present time but I don't listen to music when I am studying. I like listening to music when I am writing on My Lot though and even when I am writing articles for other writing sites. I love listening to easy relaxing music! I wouldn't be able to listen to something with a strong beat. I am listening to Karen Carpenter right now and she has a beautiful voice, so relaxing and her voice is helping me to write. Andrew

35. Rexdoron (227) | 1 year ago | Hello zandi.
For me, it depends on the music and the lyric itself. If I was listenig to song that I like, my attention will steer out to the song. Making me write very slow, or worse, stop writing.
On the other hand, musics that are soft, makes my mind in peace. It also boost out ideas inside my brain. Plus, it makes me concentrate more.
Happy day!
:)

zandi458 (6014) | 1 year ago | Hi Roxdoron, music with good lyrics never bore me, I will play the song over and over and it gives me more ideas when creating a discussion. I guess good music stimulates the brain cell that releases better ideas.

zandi458 (6014) | 1 year ago | I think you prefer peace when you're trying to create an idea but for me I get distracted easily when it is too quiet and I tend to divert my attention on something else instead of completing a piece of discussion. I will never complete it in speed without good music.

38. Daydreamer2 (395) | 1 year ago | I am a literate writer in my school i used to hear music and get idea from it, I love writing because its my passion and i grew up with making poems. Now i'm trying to concentrate in creating a book. I love what it takes to me because my mind becomes imaginative. I've enhanced my imagination skills.

zandi458 (6014) | 1 year ago | I think that is the right word 'imaginative' when we listen to music while writing. I hope you are successful in your dreams - to be a writer. Who knows one day I can read one of your book.

| 39. JeztheNun (66) | 1 year ago | Actually, I tend to concentrate more when there's music playing. Naturally not loud music, but a soft kind of background noise that my subconscious can tune into in order to drown out any distracting thoughts I might have otherwise. Classical is the best for this, since there are no words to be compelled to sing along to. (I'm notorious for HAVING to sing along if I know the words... even in the middle of a conversation)
Even if I do sing along, I can usually write or type with great accuracy without losing my train of thought, but reading while singing becomes a little trickier. I can do it, but I may have to reread lines or even paragraphs depending on the song I'm singing.
| |
| |
|
|
zandi458 (6014) | 1 year ago | I see that you are no difference from me but I don't sing along as I am handicap when it comes to singing but I love having music to accompany me in my writing as it exudes a kind of feeling that prompts me to write better and more imaginative.
