Can you concentrate writing while listening to music?

If music be the food of love then play on so the saying goes so I reckon it could apply to writing or typing as well.

I reckon that music takes the stress out of sitations that we think about all the time so we can concentrate on what we are doing.

When participating in forums like this, it's okay with me to have soft music around but when I am writing an essay or an article I can't tolerate any form of sound around me. I need a quiet room with me alone in order to really make my writing perfect. It is so hard for me to put my ideas into writing if there is any sound disturbance.

i used to listen music and study maths. I was not able to concentrate on maths witout listening music. Its weird but its true

I can't really concentrate when there's music in the background. I hated when my teachers would put music on when we had to write an essay. Regardless of it was classical or not. It's distracting and it gives us students an excuse to not be writing our paper because we can listen to the music! I don't mind music while just doing plain old homework, but when it's something times and graded, I'd rather be without it!

Most times when I'm busy writing on my computer I do have the radio on, but very low and soft as I do find it very distracting if I had it louder, especially if I'm writing my articles and might have to do research into what I'm writing about. Most times as background music I have classical as it's the least distracting to me.

well, i don't get distracted while listening to music, since i always felt that music was a big part of my life and it inspires me more than anything. however, sometimes i find peace in quiet as well. it all depends all my mood of the day. however, music does distract me when im working, i guess the stress must be too much for me.^^

No, I can not concentrate writing while listening to music. I can't do two things at the same time. If I will do that, I will end up with something that has no meaning at all. For my brain will not work that much.
I'd rather do the writing without music for a better idea. This way, I can concentrate more. Have nothing against music but I can listen to it after writing.
I love music for it helps me lighten my day. Doing the household chores with music on is perfect. This doesn't need thinking so, it's just okey.

hello zandi..im the exact opposite..i cant write or think wisely or seriously if im listening to music...which is the reverse with my husband..i cant even study during my school days if at the same time im listening to it...

Yeah whenever I have something to write I just sit in front of the TV he he. Also when doing Maths or any other subject related to problem solving etc, I always listen to music. Actually I can't even do that without listening to music..

It'll depends upon topic you are writing is how much interesting or important to you as compared to songs which you listen during writing.It may happen that, if you are playing your favourite song, then you can neglect or give less responce or concentration towards writing.Hence,how interesting topic you writing or song or music you are playing, will be important factor behind your concentration.This is from my side and experience.
