Can you concentrate writing while listening to music? |
|
I think many people get distracted in their writings while listening to music. I can't blame you, it is sometimes difficult to come up with ideas when we have our headphones stuck to our ears. Ideas just doesn't flow smoothly but I am just the opposite. Music inspires me and the more aggressive the music the more good ideas keep pouring in to my head. I am doing just that right now multi tasking, reviewing in slicethepie while posting and responding here. But it doesn't do justice to any one site as my attention is then divided between writing and listening and at the end of the day nothing seems to excel. But I guess this is how I motivate myself to find peace in music rather then the cold silent night. How about you? Does that makes your mind work?

| 83. Unholyskorn86 (4) | 1 year ago | I love typing with my headphones on. I actually type better! Typing is best done I believe when a person is calm enough to focus on what he is thinking and putting it into action. Try typing with a new keyboard after using one for 5 years. Can't do it as fast huh? It's because your mind is so focused on finding the new keys (Space between etc.) that your brain cannot focus on the task at hand. With music, weather you are listening to the words and singing along is the key. If you are just using it to calm you down and drone out everything going on around you I think you'll notice you can type a bit faster.

84. theweerouss (790) | 1 year ago | absolutely - I actually have a playlist on my itunes specifically geared toward listening to music for when i write. It helps me concentrate on the writing rather than outside distractions and if i'm trying to write a certain kind of piece, different kinds of music can help me focus my tone/mood in the right place.

| 85. kingdom1111 (15) | 1 year ago | Personally, while writing, music can be a great source of inspiration. The type of music will make all the difference in the world. If it's busy music with voice and beat, that usually gets pretty distractive. If it's instrumental like music from movies (John Williams comes to mind), some classical (mostly Baroque), some New Age (any meditation-type music) usually work well. Then again, music, with its sounds and beats, usually tend to bring out certain emotions. So If I'm trying to be empathetic responding to someone who just lost a friend, upbeat music is just not gonna cut it. But if I need to write something with energy, something to inspire people, then I'll listen to my favorite songs, no matter if they have lyrics in them or not.

zandi458 (5964) | 1 year ago | I really believe that music can be a great source of inspiration.Since I am used to listening to bad musics through my song reviews, good or bad songs makes no difference. I can make my way to writing even under worse condition.

| 86. clickmind (68) | 1 year ago | Different moods require different preferences for me. Most of the times though, I write without any music on my ears. But there are those times, when I feel I need to hear music (not listen to, hehe)-- so that I can continue on writing... My recommendation: whatever works for one -- he or she should do it.=)

90. mishastar (648) | 1 year ago | For me, it depends on the type of music I listen to. When I'm working on a project, I listen to classical music or punk rock. I guess it's the blaring guitars and smashing of the drums that send this message in my head saying, "must finish work". It so strange.
