Do you have lunch |
|
UK employees are reputed to work the longest hours in Europe, with many not having lunch breaks at all. This contributes to stress and sick absence. If you are working do you take a lunch break. Do you have a full hour or less? If you don't work, do you still take a break during the day?

1. Irishfrndly65 (7387) | 1 year ago | When I worked, outside the home, we always got a lunch break. They have labor laws here, if you're paid by the hour.
Hiya brother, what's new today?
| |
| |
|
|
p1kef1sh (5688) | 1 year ago | We have labour laws here too. But they are widely ignored by staff themselves. This gives Management a chance to exploit those same people.

2. Autumnrose2008 (640) | 1 year ago | At my job we kinda eat on the go. I answer phones and its hard to go and eat an entire meal with out phone ringing. So we eat between calls and watch tv as well. Did I say I love my job? Well I do.

p1kef1sh (5688) | 1 year ago | You love your job and that's great. But that means that you work an extra hour or whatever more than you are required to - maybe unpaid. What happens when you want to take a break. Can you go without someone saying anything negative about it?
| |
|
|
Autumnrose2008 (640) | 1 year ago | Well I am very lucky to have my job. I get paid for the hours I am there no matter what I am doing. I have had to work a day when no one called and got paid for it. So I got paid to watch tv and surf the net. Dont get me wrong those days are few but we do have them. I also suffer not grief when I take a break. I have children and my father's health is starting to fail my boss is very understanding of all those circumstances and makes accomadations to cover any breaks we need. Once again I love my job.

3. nannacroc (2364) | 1 year ago | 12.30is time for Loose Women and lunch. All of the females in my family have suffered from adult onset diabetes and I know neither of my sisters ate breakfast or lunch so in the hope of putting off what seems inevitable I have breakfast lunch and dinner.

4. dragon54u (9627) | 1 year ago | When I'm working, I always take at least a few minutes for lunch. I refuse to wolf down my food like an animal so that I can get back to work. The same thing at home, though I'm not as good about it. Now that I'm not working, I'm falling back into the old habit of eating my lunch at my desk. I eat leisurely, but I should still leave the room and seat myself at the dining table. Thanks for reminding me!

p1kef1sh (5688) | 1 year ago | I learned the hard way how bad not bothering with a lunch break is for you. I spend a lot of time in front of the computer here, but I take all my meals elsewhere. It's good to have a break occasionally. Necessary even.

5. thebohemianheart (2704) | 1 year ago | I work at home, but I do try to take a lunch break. I may not eat anything but a banana or a small salad, but I do put something in my stomach about midday.

p1kef1sh (5688) | 1 year ago | Good. You are a very important person in my life and I don't want to have to start nagging you to take a lunch break!!

thebohemianheart (2704) | 1 year ago | Oh, like I nag you not to stay up all night?*LOL*

|
p1kef1sh (5688) | 1 year ago | No. I am brave, not foolhardy!!! I just know that you'd arrange for me to go to bed before I got up even! (Actually, don't we all do that anyway?)

6. SpikeTheLobster (803) | 1 year ago | I tend to stop for dinner. My days are weird, though, because I'm disabled at the moment with back pain and looking after a psychotic cat, so I'm often up all night. Anyway, I stop for about 90-120 minutes: long enough to make dinner, eat it and watch a film at the same time. The other 22 hours of the day are spent looking after my partner (or the cat) and failing dismally at earning money online...;)

8. littleowl (5037) | 1 year ago | Hi p1key...as you know I don't work apart from the general duties of a house manager!! even so food to me is and never has been something that I have really thought about much of during the day, so tend to have a little something at night...as for my son who is a care nurse he works 8-12hr shifts he gets a break but not really long enough to have a stable dinner so normally has one when he comes home, that's if he feels like it....hugs LoLo

9. DonnaLawson (2801) | 1 year ago | I haven't worked in the public for about 15 years, so I am not sure of the lawss regarding this now.. Used to be that if you worked so many hours, you had to take a lunch break, one hour or half an hour, according to how many hours you were on the clock.. If it was part time, then you had to take a break after about 4 hours, but eveyone doesn't go by these rules because my son works almost 6 hours each day without a break.. I worked from 9-5 each day and had a one hour lunch break, and boy, did I ever enjoy this time of the day, I always had a book and a small park to sit and have lunch in while enjoying the weather and the book along with my lunch.. It was nice..

p1kef1sh (5688) | 1 year ago | I used not to take a lunch break and it contributed to my overall level of stress Donna. I think that a proper lunch break is very important.
