I had cataracts removed from my right eye on the 7th and the operation went very smoothly. I had a good doctor, it was an operation where they cut a slit on each side of the eye, the middle part I believe, and they take some tool and break of the cataract and then take it off the eye. Believe me when I Tell you this is all I know I wasn't given too much information other than they came and shot me with something that they said was going to put me to slep for 5 mnutes, when I said well that won't be much of a nap, she said that in that 5 minutes they would put 5 shots into my eye. Well seems thre is somethings they want you to know and that was one they could of passed on. Anyway after they put a big patch over the eye and sent me home. Now at this point things are going well.
As we was setting there getting discharge instructions, my daughter was there because I have a horrible hearing problem and she was taking instructions and I saw the nurse wad up a piece of paper and toss it into the trash, never thought much of it till around 9 oclock that night when it was burnig like fire. My daughter came over and I was mad and crying because of the burning which was so bad. Mad that they would send me home without any pain medicine. Now they have made 2 cuts in my eye, taken out the center and put in a implant and they don't think it is going to hurt when the numbness wears off.
She said that I had a perscription for pain medicine and the nurse wadded it up and threw it in the trash. Why I have no idea, my daughter said she told her I wouldn't need that. Is she crazy, I suffered for nearly 3 hours before my daughter got ahold of a doctor there that said she could give me some of her pain medicine. That lasted till around 3am and it started again.
But with all the mix up with the pain medicine, the operation was something I really needed. I had no idea how bad the cateracs were until the one was done. Every thing is crystal clear now and the colors are vivid. 'I can't wait to have the other eye done. Have you had Cataract surgery? Did it go well, does it make a change in how you see.

Hey there
I haven't had a catarct and wouldn't want to get one but I had eye surgery when I was 10. My vision was getting worse and worse and that was the only way to stop it,I didn't think much about it being 10 but I remember I didn't get any pain medicine, either. I think it all depends on your sensitivity to pain,I can handle a certain amount-yes,it hurt after the surgery and I wasn't able to open eyes for 3 days but my most unpleasant memory was when they took off the stitches. Somehow I had to get stitches in my eye even though the surgery was done with the laser. Well, they don't give you any painkiller when they do that and it's not as hurtful as stomach-turning,imagine someone pulling thick black thread out of your eye,oh!...
After that,I was ok with piercings, cut body parts etc. When I got a tattoo on my wrist I was told that was supposed to hurt being close to the bone but I was feeling great,I just had to remember stitch removal from my childhood

Hi bdugas, glad to hear the operation part went well. As for that nurse, she had NO legal right to throw away your prescription because SHE felt you didn't need it. I sure would report her to the director of nursing, OR to the hospital administrator would probably be better. She needs to be talked to and pay the consequences of not following Dr's orders.
I had 2 separate cataract surgeries about 3 years ago. They did one, then 2 weeks later did the other eye. Mine came from the massive doses of chemotherapy & steroids they gave me during cancer treatments. I went for almost 2 years with severely impaired vision until the cataracts were 'ripe' enough to do them. I can relate to the eye pain once those shots wear off. They may think it doesn't hurt, but if they haven't had the proceedure themselves, how the heck would they know...plus every body reacts differently to surgical invasion like that.
I was sooooooo happy once I got my surgeries over with! What a huge difference in my life. Before I couldn't see far away and needed glasses, and with the implants they put in the eyes I now have perfect vision and I only need glasses to read. After the surgery, when I was allowed to unbandage and see, I too remember how vivid colors were, and how sharp the images were that I was seeing. This kind of surgery is such a blessing to those of us who need it!

You are so right, I did report her to the doctor, I was at his office this morning and told him, let's do it again. I am so pleased with the way this one went that I wanted the other one done. But he said that with his schedule the way it was probably wouldn't be able to get to me until March. I know I had to wait over a month for this one. The second time I went to him after the surgery they ask me to read the eye chart, I couldn't even see the chart let alone read the letters on it, my daughter said YOU FAILED, I was so disappointed. But today when they handed me that black thing to hold over my eye, I read the top 4 lines, the doctor was out in the hall and he stuck his head around the corner and said good job. Made me feel so good. Any one that needs this kind of surgery they should go for it. Believe me when I say the little bit of pain that night was all well worth it.

I would formally lodge a complaint with the hospital against that nurse she has no right to throw away a prescription I think it is even illegal.

I didn't have cataract surgery but I did have surgery to shorten up a muscle behind my left eye. I had perment double vision from having Multiple Sclrosis. After a few hours I was in pain also from the cut that the made in my eye to shorted the muscle that had to be shortened. I still get double vision every now and then but not like before.

HI Bdugas, I had an eye laser operation to remove glasses some years ago. I did it for cosmetic reason not for a medical purpose but I still feel glad that I got rid of the glasses. I am glad that your seventh operation has went smoothly and I do wish that the second eye operation will go smoothly as well.

No I don't have cataracts but i really cannot understand why a nurse would do such a thing...I am gld you are better but all that could have been avoided had you had something for pain...Next time tell the doctor for something before you leave his office...

The doctor did perscribe the pain medicine, I guess I done so well she thought that Ibprofin or aspirin would be enough for pain, whatever it is not her place to take it upon herself to decide if I need pain medicine or not. I have had a lot of surgeries and this one has hurt the worst I think, I guess because it is in your eye. I did the the doctor on Thursday when I went that she threw the perscription away.

My grandfather had cataracts removed from his eyes a couple years ago. To him it was a whole new world. He couldn't get over the difference in his sight. He didn't even need glasses anymore. He was very glad he had it done. And so was my grandmother. lol

I hope your eye is better now.
I hope you're able to have the other cateract out.
I think most people either get cateracts or glaucoma when they get older. Take care and see well.

I have never had cataract surgery but I have had major surgery on my eyes. I had laser
surgery so I can see without having to wear glasses. It is considered to be major although
the down time isn't long.
I had my eyes lasered, where they make a slit in your iris and flap it back and laser
parts of the cornea off so that the light can get in and signal the brain what it is
seeing. Then the flap is put back down and it automatically suctions onto the eye and
the doctor takes a scaple tool and smooths it down so there is no wrinkles in it when
it heals.
It didn't hurt at the time but it sure hurt hours later when the freezing comes out. But
I survived it and it was good by a week later. I am so happy I had it done as now I
don't have to wear glasses to see. I see even better now than I did with glasses.
Everything is so much clearer. But I do have to wear reading glasses because now
nothing is clear close up. I can live with that.
I wore glasses or contact lens for over 41 years so it is so good for them to be gone.
Never again except to read.
I hope you are feeling better now that a day has passed.
Alrighty then, talk to you later my friend,
Have a good mylotting day, Chris

I told the doc yesterday lets do it on my other eye tomorrow, he said i will probably have to wait till March, that is ok I will get by till then, it is so nice they can fix your eyes I love it.

I have not had it. At least not yet. But I am only in my early 40's. My mom just recently had both eyes done though. She was not happy about it and did not enjoy it, and complained about a lot of pain in one of her eyes, but now she is all healed up. She has always had really bad vision, so her eyes are still not great, but at least she no longer has the cataracts. My dad needs the surgery, but does not feel that he can afford it. He does not know how much medicare will cover. I wish I could help him out. If we could find out how much it costs, perhaps my sister, brother, and I can all chip in to pay for what Medicare does not cover.

My husband is on Medicare and it pays 80% of everything he does at the doctor, can you not qualify for mdicaid. I would not be able to have it either if I wasn't on medicaid. I was a general motors employee and forced out because of the asbesto I was working in, by the time they argued over did I have enough time to draw Social Security, which I did, then it didn't fall in their time period I needed to draw the social security. So was put on medicaid, which is really better it pays 100% of everything. I think it is rip thatI worked from the time I was 15 to when I had the heart attack and now they say I have enough time but not in their time period, so what I paid in what I needed to, but will give it to someone else.
