Do you eat leftovers? email this discussion to a friend?

After i make a meal and we eat, i put the leftovers away in the fridge to eat later on during the week, weather for lunch or another dinner. I about fell over one day when my girl friend told me her ex-husband refused to eat any sort of leftovers. I was like what? Why would anyone want to throw away perfectly good food? I could see if it was a new recipe and it came out bad but perfectly good food. So, do you eat leftovers or throw them away?

Of course. It's horrible to waste good food, esp since so many people on this planet are starving. Also, at this economically tough time, it would never do to be wasteful.

I agree, it costs too much money now a days. I hate to throw food away as well. But sometimes I forget it is in there so then have no choice because it now is a science experiment, lol. Ty for sharing.:)

I try to eat leftovers. I always save any leftover food after dinner so that we can eat it later. If there is a lot left, then I just freeze it so that it'll last for a long time, and then we take it out and have it for dinner some other night. If it's just a little bit, then I usually just stick it in the fridge, and then it can be lunch the next day. happy I just don't feel right throwing away extra food!

Yes if I have alot left too I freeze it, makes a perfectly good meal for another time. And sometimes, left overs taste better I think.

if we didnt have left overs in the fridge, half of the week i would starve. when i come home late from work i just have to look in the fridge instead of waiting another hour and cooking another meal. we also have a dog so when the left overs havent been eaten we give them to him, hes a portable vaccuum cleaner.

myLot reputation of 97/100. swietekfam (192)   ranked 95 out of 11,243 in cooking  11 months ago

LOL. Our dogs get the left over scraps from dinner with their food. We call them yum yums for them. I hear ya. leftovers make for a quick lunch most times for me.

we eat leftovers. its good to have, especially on days when you are in a hurry or just don't feel like cooking. After a while I have learned to cook just the right amount of food for the family. but when we do have leftovers, it does not go to waste.

myLot reputation of 97/100. swietekfam (192)   ranked 95 out of 11,243 in cooking  11 months ago

I can sometimes cook just the right amount but I usually always cook for an army at times. I have a family of 5. 3 growing boys who eat me out of house and home most days.

I'm always eating left overs like you. I eat them more than likely the next day for either one of the main meals in the day. It depends on how much i got left, and how hungry i am etc. I never throw away perfectly good food either.

myLot reputation of 97/100. swietekfam (192)   ranked 95 out of 11,243 in cooking  11 months ago

Its nice to be able to look in the fridge and heat something up in a few minutes to eat. What a yummy time saver.

Well my family can eat left overs or go hungry. I do try to make them a little different if I have a large amount. Sometimes I plan too have left overs. some foods just taste better after they have had time to set and marinate for a day. Your friend either had to eat bad left overs or his folks had so much money growing up he never had to have them. He doesn't know what he is missing.

myLot reputation of 97/100. swietekfam (192)   ranked 95 out of 11,243 in cooking  11 months ago

Oh i know it. I think some foods taste better the next day or when u eat them because they have had time to sit and get happier. Well, we do a left over night too for dinner if we have lots from the week.

I always keep the left overs in the fridge, when money was a little easier I have to say a lot just ended up in the bin but now that things are tighter I rarely throw anything and I havn't had one complaint from the family, fingers crossed it will stay that way. I know of people that would not dream of keeping a bowl of left over mash or half of a massive jacket potatoe but they taste no different the next day. If I was your friend I would simply say nothing and start dishing up re-invented left overs.:)x

I agree. I have done that many of times. Left over chicken, made up a chicken noodle soup, or chicken pot pie out of it. So many ways to be creative with some things.:)

Left overs have always been my favorite. For some reason it tastes so much better the second day you eat it then the first day.

Yes Samma, I agree with you on that. The flavors have had time to really get better so to speak.

Either my fiance or myself (or both, if there's lots) will eat leftovers for lunch the next day. I find it's just easier when I come home at noon to pop something in the microwave rather than make some whole other meal. If something was really terrible then the remains of it may get chucked but for the most part we don't like to waste food.

myLot reputation of 97/100. swietekfam (192)   ranked 95 out of 11,243 in cooking  11 months ago

I try to avoid wasting as much as possible. I agree, its easier to pop it in the microwave and have a great meal faster than you could order fast food.

We eat leftovers. Usually it is just me though. We are a family of 5 so usually there is only enough leftovers for one serving. So either my husband will take the leftovers to work if it is something he really likes or I will eat them for lunch the next day. I don't know why people would throw out leftovers. I guess some stuff just doesn't taste as good reheated.

myLot reputation of 97/100. swietekfam (192)   ranked 95 out of 11,243 in cooking  11 months ago

Hmm, could be i suppose that some things do not taste so great reheated. But in todays day and age, it just boggles me why some would choose to throw it away.
