The wind last night was horrendous! I think I have an insurance claim..

The wind was so strong last night that the electricity went off and on several times and stayed off for a little while. That wasn't bad, but than I heard a huge crash and thought a tree had fallen on my house! Fortunately, it was only the shed out back that blew up into the air and crashed into the back of the house.
Here is a picture of the wreckage. It bent my gutter, smashed my siding and cracked a window. You can't see all the damage here but close up the siding is crushed in one place and the trim is all askew and torn away from the main facade in places. My garage roof's shingles look all crooked, like some of them are bulging up a little and there are pieces of peoples' roofs in my yard.
I'm very glad it wasn't worse, there were no trees blown down or anything. I put in a call to my insurance company but they are understandably swamped and will call me later.

Looks like you were really lucky that the damage wasn't worse.
I'm constantly astonished by the power of the wind. We lost part of our brand new roof a week or so ago, which was newly built. Most frustrating, as it took us a full day to rebuild (and reinforce!) it.

Didn't your homeowner's insurance cover the damage or you just found it better to do it yourself? Sometime the work you do is better than a contractor's! The wind is pretty scary sometimes. That shed is still sitting there and until the insurance person comes out it's staying there where it can't fly across the yard and damage something else! It's got to weigh at least 100 pounds, I can't lift it, so you know how strong that wind was.

I have to totally agree with you. I watched the neigbors grill that they had stored up against a building go flying about 2 feet off the ground across the parking lot. We had a ham radio antenna come off of our house, but so far that is all I have seen. The swing set in on its side. I am glad you stayed safe, and hope the insurance takes care of things for you quickly.

I hope they will, too. An adjuster is going to call me within 24 hours, they are very busy!! I'm just very grateful that it wasn't worse. I'm glad you didn't get much damage. The wind is still howling outside, too, but should be gone by tomorrow.

Wow! Glad it was the shed and not the house! And no one was out and about or got hurt.. (I hate strong wind!)

Everyone all over the neighborhood was indoors! Normally, we'd all be out enjoying such a balmy night, it was 53 and very nice for February. I'm glad the dogs weren't outside and in the way of flying objects!
