Speaker Pelosi scolded by the Pope |
|
Speaker Pelosi was rebuffed by Pope Benedict when she met with him. It seems that there were two different conferences one that Speaker Pelosi attended where they talked about many thing the Church's role in fighting Hunger, Poverty and Global Warming. Then there was the meeting that the Pope was at where Pope Benedict said all Catholics — especially legislators, jurists and political leaders — should work to create "a just system of laws capable of protecting human life at all stages of its development,". Speaker Pelois was further rebuffed by not having a photo op with the Pope as most world leaders and influential people would have.

1. kennyrose (4004) | 9 months ago | I blogged on Pope Benedict and Nancy Pelosi visit in Rome this morning,I when to the Vatican City newspaper and read the full story,I took away from the Vatican City newspaper the meeting was private between the Pope and Pelosi, the Pope ordered no cameras or picture to be taking.
Pope Benedict told Nancy Pelosi the teaching of the Catholic church, life is to be protected at all stages of development, after Pope Benedict reminded Nancy Polosi the teaching of the Catholic church the Pope said this teaching applies to all Catholic politicians, after Pope Benedict reminded Nancy Polosi she showed him a picture of her family.
After the private meeting with the Pope Nancy Polosi send a bubbly message back to American saying how joyful her meeting was with Pope Benedict and never mention anything about the Pope's reminder to her of the teaching of the Catholic church in regard to abortion.
The article went on to say the Catholic church is not at all happy with the new administration position on abortion.
Catholic Bishops are circulation a Catholic petition for Catholics only in a effort to prevent Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden from receiving the Holy communion due to their pro-life stand.
I first read this story at World Net Daily newspaper, I have pasted the link to the story at the bottom.

bobmnu (2602) | 9 months ago | One of the reasons I think was to have a photo op with the Pope. In the Diplomatic world this this was more than a scolding but some would consider it public slap in the face for her. Almost everyone who sees the Pope has their picture taken unless they choose not to. To refuse to do that Pope Benedict was sending a strong message to the world and especially the Catholics in the US.

2. redyellowblackdog (3961) | 9 months ago | This is particularily amusing to me. When I was in the military we had a saying we applied to extremely annoying people. We'd say, "He could even pissss off the pope!". The idea being the pope is such an understanding compassionate person that only a real super jerk could pisss him off.
Now, Speaker Pelosi has went and done it. So, we know what she is!

spalladino (8700) | 9 months ago | I think anyone who is Pro-Chioce would pissss off the Pope...those who are in a position to affect legislation and laws probably pissss him off more but that doesn't necessarily mean that any of them are jerks. I think the Church needs to stay out of politics.

bobmnu (2602) | 9 months ago | The Pope also was upset with her telling the people what the church teachings really mean. She has several strikes against her and he put her in her place. If she is not totally embarrassed then she has no feelings at all or no clue about the real world.

spalladino (8700) | 9 months ago | I realize that, red, but the Church...any church...has no business involving itself with our political system.

redyellowblackdog (3961) | 9 months ago | I'm saying the pope was not involving himself with our political system. The pope was speaking to a catholic who happens to be an US politician. Good for the pope.

4. spalladino (8700) | 9 months ago | I'm really torn as to how to respond to this. Yes, the Pope isn't happy with those who support a woman's right to choose...and he tries to apply pressure to force the legislators of another country to bend to his will. I guess my problem is that our elected officials serve the people of this country, not the Pope, not any other religious leader. I would think that reasonable Americans would recognize that.

bobmnu (2602) | 9 months ago | I could understand your point if she were voting according to what her constituents wanted, but she is out there advocating for abortion and as a world leader to tell people that the church is wrong in its teachings. She made headlines months ago by saying that the church really did not oppose abortion until just recently. This is what I think the Pope was more upset with and the fact that Catholics lawmakers are out there supporting abortion as a viable option.
