My first seedling has sprouted!  

Hey, that's great! I know it is weird to say a plant is cute, but I think the little seedling is cute. Seeing something green and growing always makes me a little happy. I thought I was just odd, but reading a psychology pamphelt (for one of my psych classes in college) years ago, it said that having living plants in one's home has been proven to be a mood stabilizer. I found that an odd fact, but pretty cool too.

I've sowed my lettuces, broccoli, nappa cabbage and they are getting bigger now. I've ordered different types of vegetable seeds and I can't wait for them to arrive.

Oh wow, I'm really pleased for you! I know exactly how proud you must be feeling right now. It is so satisfying growing plants, especially when they are grown from seed. We grow tomatoes at home every year, I'm not sure of the variety to be honest. We usually do really well, not last year though as it rained way too much and ruined the crops. We didn't get any chillies last year either. This year we are planning on growing aubergines, carrots, tomatoes, lettuce and courgettes!

It's still too early here to think about planting anything. If I had a window that got a lot of sun I would start a few things at the end of March, but I don't get enough sun, and so any seedlings would get rather pale and spindly before the ground was warm enough to plant outdoors.

It is really great growing stuff. And especially rewarding when they start to sprout. As a kid I used to have my own patch in the garden and used to grow strawberries and carrots. I often used to go to my patch and eat them - a carrot first and then a strawberry.

They were often covered in dirt, but I would just brush it off with my hands and eat them anyway. I never had any health problems from doing it, despite being warned by my parents. When I was very young, my friend often ate dirt.. Amazing! . Derek

My tulips are starting to come up but it's still really cold here to plant anything outside. I'm going to do tomatoes and maybe experiment with a few other veggies. I want to do strawberries this year too. Do you think I should go ahead and start some inside now?

Parsley, dandelions, and chives I've started in pots. My dandelions have started getting bigger as the sun's gotten stronger here in northern ohio.

Soon 'nuff my Mom and I will be starting tomatos and peppers and various assortment of flowers. (Wolfberries, too)
And as soon as we finish ordering our last batch of plants/seeds...we'll be working outside. March marks the begin of the real work! Hoo boy, here comes me worrying over little sprouts.

I really prefer things like dandelions, 'cause they're hard to kill and give me less reason to be a worrywort xD

Hopefully, once it gets warmer the dandies will get BIG and then start to flower so that they can have babies (set to seed) so that I can let loose the fluffy seeds on my yard and start some more in more pots, haha.

Early's good! The more work that can be done nore, indoors, the easier time you'll have for the rest of year ^_^

Good for you! I'm going to try my hand at planting seeds too, in fact just started tonight...mainly herbs, like chives, parsley, basil, mint...even hoping that I might have luck with flowers such as daisies, marigolds and dianthus. I planted seeds last year but for some reason just didn't have any luck, but being rather stubborn going to try again. Good luck with your "garden"
