1. SomeCowgirl (7909) | 10 months ago | I am not that kind of girl either but when I was friends with a group of people I helped one of old friends throw a baby shower. I believe she went to a dollar store and got a baby shower games book, but you might even find something like that at wal*mart, I would suggest just having some appetizers, talk about the baby, and if it's just going to be all girls maybe a tear jerker movie. Even ask your sister what she might want to do at her shower, then again, most of the time things like that are surprises!

2. thungster (147) | 10 months ago | Hi! I've never thrown a baby shower by myself before but I did help my family out when they were throwing my Aunt a shower. For the food we had a potluck which made that part of the planning very easy. We also had a couple of games we played and here's what I can remember:
1. Guess mom's tummy size: We passed around a ball of yarn and each person would cut off the length of yarn that they thought would fit around the mom's belly. The person who was the closest got a prize.
2. Guess the baby food flavor: We had a bunch of baby food jars that we tore the labels off of so none of the guests knew what flavor it was. Each person tasted them and whoever got the most right won something.
3. Guess the due-date: Pretty self-explanatory although this would only work if your guests didn't already know the due-date.
For party favors, if you have a bit of money to spend or if you're only throwing a small party, you could go to a party supply store and get mini-bottles and fill them up w/ jelly-beans. If you're lucky you might be able to find mini-bottles (or something similar like mini-baby booties) at a dollar store. That would certainly cut down on cost!
I hope you have a fun time planning and at the shower! Congratulations to your sister!

4. Jae2619 (1135) | 10 months ago | First of all congrats to your sister on her baby....
Baby showers can be fun, though sometimes a big headach in itself. If you know what your sister's baby is gonna be, go with that theme... If she's got a theme picked out for her baby's room, use that one.
For decorations, easiest thing to do is just buy some cray paper, and twist it loosly and hang it around the room your gonna do the most activty in. Adding a few balloons and spice it up. The your local dollars store can be a very nice place to shop for cut outs if you want to add those.
For the meal or snacks, just go with easy finger foods, they are the easiest and fastest. Chips, dips, fresh veggies, fruits, mints and nuts. Most of these can be found cheaply at your local dollar store. Also, you would want to have cake and punch, or your drinks of choice.
For games, there are many of them out there. You can make word searchs. Some websites even have them for you to print.
Can you name all the baby items. Place anywhere from 10 to 15 items on a tray and sit it in the middle of the room, where everyone can see it. Don't tell anyone why it's sitting there, or if you do, say decoration. Then later in the day, pick up the tray and go a quick walk around, and then hand everyone a piece of paper and set a timer for a minute and tell everyone to write down at many items as they can remember. Winner is the one with the most.
When your guest arrive, have them tear off a piece of cray paper off and go on in. Then as everyone arrives have the mother to be, walk around to each person and see if the cray paper fits around here, and which ever one is the closest wins.
How fast can you diaper a baby game... Get a good size baby doll, a pack of diapers and time each player as they change the baby. Fastest time wins.
Name the baby game... Take mother to be and father to be's FULL names and have players make as many names for the baby out of their names.
Guess the baby's size, winner will be determined after baby is born. But have everyone write down the weight, and lengh of the baby. You will be in charge of letting the winner know on the date of birth.
For prizes, with all the baby showers I've ever given, attended and even at my own, the host always bought little rattles, butt balm, pacifiers and such to give a prizes, then the winners always gave the prizes to the mother to be.
You can do favors if you want to, for your guest to leave with. The last baby shower I threw, I made cinnomon rolls, (the bake and serve kind) wrapped each one up, and attached a note saying thanks for showering our bun in the oven. I have also used premie diapers for favors, getting them and put them together as they would go on the baby, line the inside with tissue paper, make them cute, and then dropped in sugar baby candies. Attached a note, saying... Here's our sweet thanks for your generosity.
Simple things go a long ways.
Best of luck!

34momma (4779) | 10 months ago | it is funny that you say that Easy. cause we come from a really big family. so big that we don't really have to many friends. I mean i have about maybe ten people in my life that have been in my life for a long time that i love. but the people i spend most of my time with are my family members. and my sister is the same way. i am going to make it happen for you. I just have to get it together

7. danishcanadian (20047) | 10 months ago | I went to my cousin's baby shower a few weeks ago, and we played a really neat game.
Everyone had 1 clothes pin. Whenever someone heard someone else say the word BABY, the person would take the clothes pin of the person who said it, Once you were out, you were out. She who had the clothes pin won.
We had all kinds of fun trying to make the other women say BABY. We had to keep on our toes and remember to say things lke "Kelly's new bundle of joy," or "the new little one," or "a child-to-be shower" or an "infant" stuff like that. Just don't say the word BABY.
Aunt Nancy said BABY first, and since she lost her clothes pin, her joke was to try and make everyone else say BABY. haha Her teenaged daughter won, but I came in second place. She had 6 pins, I managed to collect 4.
Another one we had was "guess the number of safety pins in the jar."

8. JoyfulOne (4227) | 10 months ago | Baby showers!! What fun!! I just gave one last summer, so maybe I can give a few ideas. If she knows whether it's a boy or a girl, then you have your color theme. If not, make it pastels of blue and pinks, or yellow and greens. If the mother to be knows what her nursery theme is going to be (animals, zoo, bears, etc) then use that theme for the party goods, and mention her theme in the invitations.
One thing I did that was a huge hit at the party, was I bought a new blue (for a boy) baby bath tub and used it to serve the punch in. I made my punch and added some blue Kool-Aid to it so it looked like water, and then I bought those little bath-time rubber duckies and had them floating in the 'pond.'
Baby shower games are always the hit of the party! Instead of describing a whole slew of them here, I'm just going to add a few of my favorite links. They let you print out (free) games, and the answer sheets, and then all you need is some pencils, a timer, and some little inexpensive gifties for the winners.
This first link is baby shower central. You will love this one...it has supply lists for the shower, to-do lists, and a lot of real handy stuff! http://www.babyshowerscentral.com/checklists.shtml

JoyfulOne (4227) | 10 months ago | Duh....must have been having an old-timers moment there lol. I forgot to add that into the baby bath-tub I stuck a glass punch bowl so the Kool-aid didn't stain the bathtub (and so the punch didn't touch any of the inside where there might be glue for the non-skid strips) Any other large bowl, Tupperware, etc, that will fit in would work too. Around the hidden punch bowl I stuck green easter grass. Glad the links might help:-)

10. rsa101 (7316) | 10 months ago | Don't do it all by yourself. Ask help from others like friends and family members, I guess from there there are people who knows how things will go in a baby shower. I think you don't need to show your sister that you made everything for her just the thought that you made the initiative that you want to give her a baby shower is enough that your sister would be touch by the effort made by you.
