lobbyist funnelling money to elected officals

Rep. Jeff Flake is using the scandal over the PMA Group in an effort to force the House ethics committee to look into whether earmarks and campaign contributions are linked. Well hello....the rest of us have already figured that that there is a big old link between the two. The Justice Department is looking into whether lobbyists used “straw donors” to route money to favored lawmakers. PMA and its employees donated more than $3 million to lawmakers over the last decade, the vast bulk of it going to Murtha and other members of the powerful Appropriations Committee. PMA’s clients won hundreds of millions of dollars in spending earmarks, according to congressional watchdog groups. Flake added that a $400 billion-plus omnibus spending bill to be considered by the House this week also contains earmarks “worth millions of dollars ... for clients of the PMA Group.” Well I guess it is better late than never. But really do you expect a "real" investigation into this? It would cost a lot of elected officals their jobs. Yet they are the very ones who would over see this investigation. So if it happens do you think htey are honestly doing to let the truth come out? Tell me waht you think of this proposal. What should be done to stop lobbyist from buying our elected officials?

Lil, like you said we all know this has been going on for decades if not longer. It is a known fact that both government officals, and pentagon officals are bought and sold daily. If you look at the number of former Pentagon officals now working for defense contractors, it will shock you. If you look at the amount of money donated to both political parties by these same contractors, you will be equally amazed. We all know that our leaders are bought and sold everyday. The only way to stop this, is to take the money out of Washington. Can anyone show me where it says in the constitution that you have the right to buy a government offical?

Who would have thought that some company or persons would give a lot of money to politician in exchange for a lot more money coming back to that company or persons. The easiest way to do away with lobbyist is to do away with the power of Congress to take money from one group, through taxation, and give it to another group through earmarks. Murtha is the king of pork, is it any surprise that he receives so much money from lobbyist?

We need to stop this. It is basically stealing. COngress is stealing from us to give to them so that they can get a share of the spoils. How is it that the mass majority of American's are not up in arms over this?

All lobbying should be done away with! (I have this vision of health care being in gov's hands and those of us without our own lobbyist will be waiting an eternally long time for any health care..) - It's impossible for the people's work to get done when high powered and highly wealthy lobbyists are wining, dining and vacationing our lawmakers.

I think this should always be in place. When politicians are bought, they should immediately be removed from office with no benefits.

They are saying the motion will not pass. Our elected officials for the most part are not going to vote to stop this. They are making too much money off it. We the people are going to have to DEMAND it change for it to stop.
