What do you picture when you think of Texas?

I hate Texas but I'm wise enough, and honest enough to say it is not the states fault.

I spent 5 days there once when I was going on 10. It sucked and it was my step dad's fault. you don't need the details but blame him for my icky feelings toward the state.

You are right that there is an interesting beauty to a state most either picture empty but for the cow patties, or filled with oil rigs and black gold.

Being a native Texan I am biased.

When I close my eyes I see a collage of immages, the beaches near Corpus, the Monahans Sand hills, the FLAT, FLAT, panhandle on the way to Amarillo. I feel the wind, soft and cool but the next day hard and dusty. I see mesquite bushes, and trees, Pine trees, Pecan trees, and dirt. Lots of dirt, red dirt plowed waiting for cotton to be planted, rich brown dirt in my yard waiting for my garden, and dirt in the air blowing from the north, putting a light cover of dust on my car and in my house.

When I close my eyes I see real cowboys riding horses on their ranches, with chuck wagons and branding cattle (yes it is still alive). And people in cities who have never seen a cow or horse except on TV. And then they meet in a resturant and visit and are happy and friendly. I see the Alamo, and hear the cries of people wanting to be free, and I remember Junetenth and hear the cries of people who are now free.

When I picture Texas I see my state's shape, and the many different colors and languages, and peoples, living together.

It is true everything is bigger in Texas, the hearts and egos are the same size.

I love my state, you should visit, it is beautiful.

Texas is a nice state. I lived in San Antonio for a while several years ago. There is one place in Texas and I forget the name but I don't like that town. We went there driving to and back from California. It was so windy there. It was very hard to drive. When we got to our hotel I thought the wind was going to blow me over.

Yes, I agree Texas has everyhing. Its so big and one part looks completly different from another. I've traveled all over texas, the only part i haven't been is the panhandle. I love my state. When I think of texas, i think of the big thicket forest cause its near were I grew up and I use to drive through it on my way to Nacogdoches(were I went to college at)and as corny as it sounds the Alamo, cause Im a history buff.


Oh, I also think of the Dallas Cowboys. Jimmy Johnson is from my hometown and its my dad's favorite team.

BIG and HOT. That's what I think of when "Texas" comes to mind. I also think of it being close to the American border, meaning there are a lot of Spanish-speakers there.

I used to have a friend who lived in Texas, though, & she would always send me pictures of it - and it did seem beautiful! (At least the parts she took pictures of). Like any state, I'm sure it has it's good qualities as well as it's bad ones.

Last time I figured out like what had been promoted in 1978 "Dallas" TV show starred by Larry Hagman, Barbara Bel Geddes, Jim Davis, Patrick Duffy and many others. I mean, the surrounding seemed modern "cowboy" with big house in large compound area and covered up by many hilly areas. But when watched on TV news, it is totally different and out of those retro images stored in my mind.

I think of big cattle ranches in texas but all big magnificent cities, and lots of tourist attractions like in san antonio, with spanish sites and cuisine.

When I think of Texas I think of cowboys, horses,longhorn cattle and alot of sports teams! I think of the Dallas Cowboys,Houston Texans,San Antonio Spurs,Houston Astros,Dallas Mavericks,Houston Rockets and the Texas Rangers!

I really imagine a place like a desert, but not so drastic!
Hot, dry, yellow (lol), indians with hand axes on horses...
Saloons, big pills of horse food (don't remember the name)
and an old west soundtrack!
