I need help here,i have a client(i work as a aid with disables in their home)that was ask not to smoke in is home while the attendent was there to help.He told them that if they had a problem with his smoking to not bother coming and to leave. He didn't say that to me because i tried to compromise with him,i open the window and for the 2 hours i'm there in the morning,he is only allowed to have 2 cigarettes.I don't think you can ask someone not to do something in their own home,i mean i know smoking is bad for your healt, but i have to right to simple not work in his home or to put up with it,i wouldn't expect him to stop smoking after 45 years and i think he is know it's bad for him. What do you think?

i think if you asked nicely or come up with something. now when i used to smoke in my house, i never smoked well my parents or my in laws were over. but if someone told me not to smoke in my own house, tell them to go to hell. my sister in law thought she was going to tell me what not to talk about in my house, yeah haven't been back since. lol. oh well

I did ask and he was super nice to me cause i don't give him a lecture or try to change him so he is cuting back for me,but he's getting upset with the other attendents because they are trying to say he can't snoke in is own house when they come in and that's what i don't think it's fair...Thank you and have a good night.

I believe that this man has the right to smoke in his own home. and nobody has the right to tell him other wise, he is not breaking any law.... He should get some one to help him that the smoking does not bother. It is up to you weather you go their to work or not.

Agreed... you can't go into someone's home and tell them they can't smoke or drink, etc. As my dad was fond of saying when we didn't like something, "My house... my rules" LOL I think you've offered a reasonable compromise to him, in order to continue your job, and if he's willing to agree to it, so much the better. But, ultimately, as you said, he's chosen to smoke for 45 years, doesn't need the lecture on the health concerns and should be free to do anything legal that he wants on his own property.

I wouldnt directly, but I have kids, so I just wouldnt take them in if they smoked in their home and tell them why. I mean even if the house is smoked in, and they dont smoke while you are there they smoke is still lingering in the air, and so I just wouldnt risk it with my kids.

No, I wuld not tell someone. I don't think that you can tell someone not to smoke in their own home. I would hope that they would be considerate enough knowing that you do not smoke or do not like it. I hate when people do that. My sister does this and I just don't visit her as often.
