For most things I will just pour the salt out of the container into my hand and then pour it in the pot or pan. The only time I really don't do it that way is when I am baking something and the amount of salt needs to be more accurate.

myLot reputation of 97/100. sharay (1360)   ranked 284 out of 11,196 in cooking  10 months ago

yeah...it does depend on what food we are cooking, for baking even i would use a spoon

Hi Sharay, I prefer using the spoon; at least I would know how much to use each time. If I use my hand or fingers, it's guessing like a pinch or 2 pinches - and I would most probably end up too much or too little salt.

myLot reputation of 97/100. sharay (1360)   ranked 284 out of 11,196 in cooking  10 months ago

too little salt would not be a problem as we always can add later, too much would just spoil the whole food

I usually get salts through my hands, though I cannot really measure, I just put salt then if it is not sufficient I put some more.

myLot reputation of 97/100. sharay (1360)   ranked 284 out of 11,196 in cooking  10 months ago

i use table salt for cooking and also feel comfortable pinching the salt with my fingers. like you, it seems i could measure it well if i use my hand instead of the spoon. but for iodized salt, i use a spoon because they granulated.

myLot reputation of 97/100. sharay (1360)   ranked 284 out of 11,196 in cooking  10 months ago

i use iodized salt, but i can still put them through my fingers

when it comes to seasoning food i use my hands but if it's for a recipe that calls for a certain amount i use a spoon or measuring cup

It depends on what I am cooking. For dinner preparation, I measure with my hand and have been doing it for so long that I feel comfortable with it. Many baking recipes are more exacting. If I'm baking a cake, I usually grab the spoon for measuring.

I use my hand. I don't tend to add a lot of salt to a recipe when I am cooking. For that reason, I simply pour a little bit out into my hand and take a pinch or two from that to add to the recipe.

myLot reputation of 97/100. sharay (1360)   ranked 284 out of 11,196 in cooking  10 months ago

when you dont want exact salting, your hands would be fine for you just need to sprinkle some over the food

I am always putting salt in my hand when I cook. The only time I really measure the salt is when I am baking and really don't have much choice.

myLot reputation of 97/100. sharay (1360)   ranked 284 out of 11,196 in cooking  10 months ago

yeah, thats the right way to do it i suppose, anyways, i have never baked

I pour in the salt in with a spoon, as I know I won't get my hands cacked with salt if they are wet with not a towel in sight, and I can always shake some off, making it fall back into the container if I have miscalculated the amount

i never touch the salt if my hand is wet, for we will take more salt than needed adn also, the salt will form clots when the water is present in the jar
