The One Thing About Our Home That I Don't Like... |
|
For the most part I really like our apartment. It’s a good size, it’s well insulated, there’s no bugs/rodents, everything works (except the dishwasher), it’s all electric and it’s a good solid apartment. There’s only one thing that I don’t like and that’s the carpet in it. It’s old carpet and it’s some kind of carpet that it seems to attract every stain in the universe. If you sneeze it gets a stain. We’re not allowed to rent a machine to clean it and I haven’t gotten around to buying a steamer yet but really I’d rather they just replace the whole thing b/c it’s loose in a couple spots and I don’t really like the color. It’s a light blue color that kind of looks slate blue now…icky looking. I don’t see how they’d rip it out and replace it with all our stuff in here and I don’t see us moving so I don’t know what will happen.
I wish they would have put a dark color carpet in here b/c at least then it wouldn’t look so bad. It’s really the only thing in here that I don’t like.
What is one thing you don’t like about your home? Do you plan to change it or live with it? What color carpeting do you have and is it easy to keep clean?

1. ErrollLeVant (2450) | 9 months ago | After our girls were grown, we decided that we wanted light, almost white, carpet to brighten up the room. We got that, now we have grandkids. We are thinmking of replacing it with something that shows the dirt less!

2. nerdytina (2037) | 9 months ago | I really really dislike my kitchen counters! They are so disgusting looking because they are very old; I think they are the original counters that were put in when the building was built about 30 years ago. Anyway, the counter is made of tiles that match the bathroom floor--so there are spaces between the tiles, which makes cleaning up a huge pain. It gets stained in those spaces, and if we want to get it truly clean we have to take a toothbrush and bleach to it. It's just difficult to keep up with when we're busy.
There's nothing we can do about it though, since we rent, so we'll just be living with it until we move.

4. nanajanet (2653) | 9 months ago | Why not lay a new carpet over it or get a large area rug or rugs. You can get spray stuff, in the meantime, and why are you not allowed to rent a machine to do it? If you are allowed to have your own, that makes no sense. They have a new spray carpet cleaner that I have seen advertised. Also, look into your lease and see if it says anything about the carpet.
If you put one down over it, you can take it with you.

nanajanet (2653) | 9 months ago | Oh, I do not have carpet in any but two bedrooms. Carpet tiles in the one, with extras in the closet, if one gets stained it is easy to replace. The other I have Berber carpet and it does not have loose threads but it is more like a weave, like a dark ivory color and is easy to clean, which we have done once per year.
I have wood floors the rest of the house and no area rugs, since my daughter's long-haired cat sheds like leaves on a tree, all year long.

6. catdla1 (2606) | 9 months ago | My last apartment had carpet from hell in it. It was a very light beige, and showed every speck of dirt. With 4 pets, you know that's a nightmare. I ended up buying a room size (cheap) oriental rug, and just put it on top of the existing carpet. I did that same thing with the hallways and bedrooms. I felt better, and the butt ugly stuff underneath wasn't too bad looking when we moved out. I think landlords put rugs in like that just so they can keep your deposit when you eventually move out.

7. bellaofchaos (3118) | 9 months ago | I think the one thing I don't like about my home right now is the kitchen is too small for a serious cook. I have no wiggle room and my counter space sucks. LOL!! but I don't plan on living here forever since I rent and I just won't buy a house that is too small if you know what I mean. I kinda hate the carpeting too... Not thrilled with it ... grrrr...

8. katsmeow1213 (4842) | 9 months ago | We've just moved in about a week ago. So far my biggest problem with this house is the size. We moved from a 2 story home into a tiny trailer. It's going to take some getting used to, that's forsure.

9. liaamur (198) | 9 months ago | i'm sorry about having to deal with your carpet. i for one knows how it feels when you don't like something in your own place. ours is like an oven on sunny days, but i like it that way, as i am extremely aversed to cold. have you checked with your landlord if THEY could do something about it? it is something that has been there before you came, isn't it?

10. LittleMel (6473) | 9 months ago | I like the house we have now. the only carpeted area is in the bedroom and around it. but I do wish to have a house where there is a specific corner for the pets to sleep, eat etc. I'm planning to have more pets when the economy gets better I don't think we will need bigger house we just need to rearrange the furniture, maybe sell them and get smaller ones.
