This was the first time I went to the store and got some avocados. And other tnen making quacamole, I do not know any recipes or suggestions. My husband says we have to eat them right away, but I would like to put some away in the freezer. I know all about putting lemon juice on them to keep them from turning black, and how to get the seeds out, but that is all. The only time we had then was when we were guests at a party or in a restaurant. We do not get them cheap up here and the only reason is that we shop at Superstore and they have a wider variety of food from all corners of the world. So suggestions, please?

Avocados unlike other fruit doesn't start to ripen until it is picked. So that is a good thing for the avocado producers because they don't ripen as they are shipped in cool containers. When buying avocados you should buy the hard green ones so they will ripen after you get them home. When full ripe they will be soft and spreadable. There isn't any way to quicken the ripening process. I will take any where from 2 to 5 days to get fully ripe. They should not be put in the fridge because they will not ripen but will go black and not soften. To freeze an avocado you need to puree them add about 1 tbs of lemon or lime juice per 2 avocados and leave room for expansion. When thawed out use with in 3 days. They may have some water after thawing but just drain that off. You can use the frozen avocados as a dip salad dressing or a sandwich spread.

I put lemon juice on mine and froze them. I think if I just cut off a chunk of the frozen avocado, I can use it as a spread.

I love to slice them on buttered bread and eat a sadwich made from them. Never have froze them. Mostly when I buy the are real hard and I have to wait some time to get them alittle bit soft.!

I have them in the fridge now. I might freeze them if they last long enough. They are so delicious.

Are you buying them to put them on a salad or make quac? You can slice them and put them on your salad, they have lots of vitamins.

We got them in a five to a package. I smashed up one and added a little mayonnaise to it and put it on my hot dogs. Then I added some chili powder. Now I wonder how long can I keep quacamole. I love the stuff.

Make small slices of avocado, put them in a bowl and then add milk. It makes a good alternative for breakfast cereal. I add brown sugar with it too. It's really yummy...it tastes a little rich so it would make you feel full right away.

You can chop them up in cubes and add them to a salad. My mom does this all the time and she enjoyes them. Avaocados to ripen fast and you must eat them with in the first week you do get them so dont let them sit around to long. A salad is a good way to use an avocado. My mom eats them just in strips to but you can do what you want with them. Enjoy. Happy Mylotting

I guess you bought the little net bag with 5 avocados. It is difficult to make use of them all at once since they seem to ripen all at once. I usually make some guacamole with one of them, then eat 1/2 of an avocado for breakfast, with a little salt and pepper. I also slice them up and make a vegetarian sandwich with lettuce, tomato, avocado and low fat mayo or Miracle whip. I cube one to add to a green salad. I have never frozen them but I see one of the answers tells you how to do it. I prefer to buy one at a time when they are on sale.

I've never frozen avacados, can you find some place on the internet that says you can? They do need to be softish to be ripe and shouldn't be cut until they are. Now, this isn't soft like mushy, but so that a gentle press on the skin produces a slight give - hard to explain. But I've never seen avacados frozen. they are GREAT just cut up in a salad, I don't think guacamole (g not q but said kind of sofe g gwok-a-mo-le') needs hot stuff in it, I like it with sour cream and tomatos - and salt, avacados need salt. Even my cat, Sab, said they needed salt.

As far as I know, avaocados are not suitable for freezing. if you want to keep them for longer, then store them in a cool dry place. Or, you could get a dehydrator and dehydrate them. That would make avocado chips.

My husband is from Peru and the way we eat avocados is smash it up with salt and eat it with pita bread with coffee in the morning. Another way we eat it is with fish, rice and lentils. They can be very expensive like you said. Sometimes we can get them here for .50 but most of the time they are 1.00. If you have success in freezing them please let me know. I have stored guacamole in the fridge for almost a week if you use a good air tight container.

Don't know if you can freeze avocados unless they are already mashed up into guacamole. Once they are cut, air is the enemy. So if you keep them in the fridge make sure they are in an air-tight container. I love them sliced in a salad or on burgers.

I've never frozen avocados either so good luck on that one. I have had them in salad and personally love it. Another way is on hot or cold sandwhiches. Mmmmm, they're good on beef or steak tacos too. Never had it in a smoothie or with brown sugar. But I've never ate them a way I didn't like! I do know they go bad really fast, so I hope the freezing thing works.... please let us know:)

I have been enjoying avocados for a long time. In fact I have two that are ready to eat today. Now I just cut in half, take a spoon and eat it with some nice lettuce and a few tangerines. I find it a pleasant meal. In the past, I would toast a whole wheat bagel, spread some avocado, lettuce, tomatoe, onion, some salt and some spices, and enjoyed it thoroughly. I also would cook some whole wheat pasta, and then would make a fresh sauce (nothing cooked) of avocado, parsley, tomatoes, shallots, and salt and spices like oregano and wow. I limit avocados to two a week since they are mostly fat (yes even overdoing healthy fat is not good).
