Firewall |
|
My firewall is blocking some of my most used sites. I cannot get on gmail because of my firewall. Squidoo won't work correctly because of it. I can't leave any updates on Twitter. And, to make matters worse, my sorties won't load on Mylot! I had to turn my firewall off! I'm going to have to get my husband to fix it for me so that I can do the things I want to do, but still be protected.
Has your firewall ever blocked a site you use a lot? What did you do about it?

Alexflu (13) | 8 months ago | usually i had to go to portforward.com but im not sure if thats the firewall that was doing it to me truthfully i don't even use virus protection or firewalls the only need is some basic knowledge and read b4 you click. things can say double negatives to trap you..

You might be protected from viruses, that is if you are careful about what you are downloading and opening with your computer. But sometimes when you visit websites malwares and spywares automatically get downloaded to your site and they maybe trojan backdoors, which downloads viruses to your computer. I've heard that every 9 in 10 computers are infected with viruses, malware or spyware. It's best to get some protection. Who knows??

| 2. huxen69 (89) | 8 months ago | Hi, I've had somewhat same experience with firewalls. Try to get ZoneAlarm firewall; it is the most easy firewall to configure( I'm saying allowing certain sites which you use and programs that you want to access ) and yet stay protected. You might have bought a license so might not wanna buy new software. Why don't you let me know the name of the firewall, maybe I could help you a bit more. I'll check back to the post if i see this article again. Hehe, I'm too lazy to copy the link of the post and save. Hehe

katsmeow1213 (4816) | 8 months ago | Zonealarm is the one I just had to get rid of. A friend of mine suggested it awhile ago, and then a couple weeks ago it totally messed up her computer. She couldn't do anything on the computer and finally she was able to restore the computer and uninstall zone alarm, then it was fine.
Oddly enough, the same thing happened to me just a few days ago. After time Zonealarm will completely mess up your computer.

katsmeow1213 (4816) | 8 months ago | A cleaner is not enough to protect your computer, and your cable company is wrong. You do need a firewall to protect your computer.

4. Eskimo (1707) | 8 months ago | I used Zonealarm for a long time because it was really good, however I updated my virus checker to one which had a firewall attached and had to remove it because you shouldn't have two firewalls running at the same time.
Most firewalls have a facility for you to add trusted sites to it to allow you to use these sites, but make sure that you enter the site names correctly. There are a number of rogue sites which have very slight changes of name or a different suffix. One example of this was 'Whitehouse.com' which the U.S. government had accidentally some links to, instead of 'Whitehouse.gov' which is the official White House site. I would suggest that you block Whitehouse.com as this is a site you wouldn't want to visit.
In this day and age you shouldn't turn your firewall off unless updating it.

6. lilybug (15200) | 8 months ago | I have never had that problem before. I would be annoyed too if I were in your position. That is really bad if your firewall is even blocking gmail. I guess you just have to be careful what you do with your firewall turned off until your husband can fix it.

9. bookreadermom08 (1834) | 8 months ago | I am very sure that my firewall does block alot of things, as I am not very computer literate and I am in the learning stages of money making sites and talking through mylot, facebook, and other sites I have heard alot about firewalls blocking things ....I know it is for the safety of the computer so I cant complain, and for right now I am not sure what I am missing as I started to really put my time in on the computer this year.
good luck with yours and I hope you get it figured out. happy mylotting.
