The white house press secretary said that they are confused about the tea parties. Why it was held and why people are so upset.Well they must not have been watching it. I think the signs and the people spoke for themselves. Are they really confused (and just not get it) or are they just playing dumb so they do not have to answer for their actions that people are sooo upset about?

To be honest I can definitely see it from their point of view. You say you think the signs and the people spoke for themselves; what I saw were some signs against a woman's right to choose, signs about gay marriage, signs about President Obama not being an American mixed in with the signs about unfair taxes and large government. I can certainly understand some confusion over why these tea parties are being held now when they weren't held on any of the tax days during the past eight years and why many of those who were instrumental in the tea parties were parties to the shape we're in right now...pun INTENDED...lol! If you had seen more coverage and not just bits and pieces put up to make it look a certain way you would have seen the overwhelming theme was taxes and government spending. Including the bail outs.

In all fairness, Lil, everyone from the right seems to sincerely believe MSNBC abd CNN wanted them to look a certain way and everyone else believes Fox wanted them to look a certain way, don't you think? BTW, there were no parties in my area that I could get to, even if I'd have wanted to. I really don't mean to come off as "anti-tea party" but I really don't understand why it's being done now when it wasn't done the past few years. I mean, the middle class has now gotten a tax cut and most of the spending that's now being done is necessary. I guess this is one of those times we'll just have to agree to disagree, which is kind of my point - it's the right who is behind the tea parties and their main goal is to get the Republicans back into power. "I really don't mean to come off as "anti-tea party" but I really don't understand why it's being done now when it wasn't done the past few years." Have you ever heard of "the straw that broke the camel's back"? People can only take so much before they take action. It's happening now because Obama campaigned on change, and instead of changing what he called "out of control spending", he's drastically increased it. People are fed up. "I mean, the middle class has now gotten a tax cut and most of the spending that's now being done is necessary." Are you high? It's NECESSARY to spend money researching pig manure? There are loads of pork and earmarks that congress and Obama approved that is absolute crap and you MUST know it. "it's the right who is behind the tea parties and their main goal is to get the Republicans back into power." No, the goal is to stop the excessive taxation and crap spending being done by our government. If it were solely to get republicans back in power there wouldn't be democrats and independents attending these. I can name a number of mylotters that voted against McCain that attended tea parties.

I think they probably really confused and just don't get it or the first Boston Tea Party and the Constitution. Otherwise they wouldn't be lying tax cheats.

maybe they are confused because they themselves do not know much about taxes. After all most of them do not pay theirs.

THose are great. I saw some really great signs. You ought to start a discussion asking people what their favorite sign was they saw at the tea parties.

Well, the first parties back in back in the day were confusing to the people the colonists protested too, or they just didn't care, and well, we know what followed that. Lets just hope they learn from history so we don't have to repeat it. This isn't going away, this is not a sentiment that is just going to fade off and people will begin taking more drastic steps as time goes on. Right now it's tea party protests. Next, will come people and vehicals flooding and blocking up D.C Followed by elections that will look drasticly different than they have in the past and when that fails, we could well see states begin to take their own action and when, god forbid, all else fails, it will get pretty ugly around here.

you know what I see.....third parties playing a real role in the next election. Both major parties have disguested the american public. They will be more willing to look at a third party now. I hope they are ready for it and have their ducks in a row....this could be their time.

S.O.P...Standard Operating Procedure. The White House is not going to address the tea parties head on unless they are willing to address the issues that folks are upset about and they're not ready or willing to do that right now. Regardless of the official spin, we got their attention and they...the President and every congressperson and senator in this country...knows how angry and frustrated so many of us are.

Hi lilwonders...Now I'm confused...weren't there tea parties in Washington? How close to the White House do these people have to be in order to get a message across? I'll bet the parties were covered better by international media than media right here!

yep there were nation wide. Including washington dc. Obama is just using this as an excuse so he does not have to talk about what these people are so upset about. He has decided to ignore the problem.

well then problem solved - as long as you ignore the problem it miraculously solves itself - good for him - excellent leadership skills!
