Thinking of getting my own digital camera |
|
Now my husband has one, it is a 5 mg camera which shows how old it is even though it is a Canon. I know how to use it and I can take some good pictures with it. His hands do not work very well, they are getting calcified due to severe arthritis, but well for me 5 mg does not seem like much especially when it was an almost $300 camera when he bought it. So the question is, is it feasible for me to buy my own camera considering that I can get a better resolution at a lower cost, or should I just keep using this one. It is a little cumbersome as it was intended for professionals.

1. cher913 (13350) | 7 months ago | there are so many great cameras on the market these days and quite often you can get one on sale. the best advice is to shop around. my daughter just got one and got it for under 100 dollars.

suspenseful (17034) | 7 months ago | I figure that I want one with 8 mps at least. I love taking pictures of scenery, not like my husband who is mostly in family reunions.

2. dragon54u (9404) | 7 months ago | I have one that my ex and I got about 10 years ago. My sons keep telling me to get a new one because it is a big bulky, about the size of an old Kodak of that time. But I think now, and I would advise you to save your money for now. Things are going to get very bad economically, even if they seem to be getting better for awhile. I think you will need that money you would spend on the camera. I think you should hold off for awhile and make do with what you have.
I'm tempted to get a new camera, but I'm conserving all the money I can right now.

3. stephcjh (22403) | 7 months ago | I have a cheap digital camera. I have never read up on it to figure out how to use it properly. I may do it soon though because the flash is not working on my 35mm. I would do what you can offord and have to have.

suspenseful (17034) | 7 months ago | I got a cheap one as a promo prize when we listened to a spiel about investing in holiday places to stay. It is not much just for putting web pictures on the net and I did not like the holiday place guy. I kept hinting about going to New York and maybe staying at a place there for a week or so and I got angry when he hinted that now that we are old and not having to bother with kids. Could have killed him. I am not old and I love kids.

4. wildcat48 (384) | 7 months ago | Hello, suspensful, Well, I don't know much about other digital cameras but my own which I paid less then $100 for and it works great still after all these years and I have had it over 8 years. It is a Concord eye. It has zoom when I need it and it lets me view the pics as I take them so if I don't like them I can delete them. But if you feel like it is a expense you don't need atthis time then, I see no problem in continuing to use the one of your husbands.

suspenseful (17034) | 7 months ago | My husband's camera is quite good bot it is a G5 and I can get one that has a high resolution at less cost. So I am thinking of economy. It will not be for a while yet because it takes a while for me to buy anything, but it is in the thinking stage.

suspenseful (17034) | 7 months ago | I was thinking of making a calendar and also if someone wanted a photo like a company for advertising, I could sell the photo to them. I also would not mind making portrait sized prints. And I do not like anything grainy. I will have to practice with my husband's camera first.

6. joyceshookery (1065) | 7 months ago | You have spoken in previous discussions about cutting down on expenses (unless I have you mixed up with another myLot friend) so if you just take pictures occasionally, and hubby's camera still works, you might as well continue using it even though it's older and more cumbersome than the new cameras.
If you use the camera quite often, you might consider it worth the money to get a newer model with more features.

suspenseful (17034) | 7 months ago | It is mainly because it is cumbersome. I have a large summer purse, but it really is not that large and a smaller sized camera would be better to put in my purse. Also a new one would be less complicated since this has a lot of gadgets and we put it on automatic anyway.

8. tigerdragon (2986) | 7 months ago | nowadays, it is a basic gadget one must have. we can never rely on our phone cameras since our cellphones are primarily intended for calling and not for picture taking. The 5 megapixel camera is ok but you can purchase a 7.1 megapixel digital camera at a lower price today. it all depends on what purpose you are going to use it for. i would suggest that you get your one instead of using your hubby's cam. if you want a less expensive good quality digital camera, i suggest you get a kodak.if you can afford it, get a sony carl seize lens digital camera.

suspenseful (17034) | 7 months ago | That is the whole point. The cost of cameras have gone down. And they are so much easier. The one my husband has is so complicated and we have it at automatic setting because I have no idea of all those other settings, focusing and such. We do love Canon and I checked them and the 10 mp are the same price as the one we got and it is 5 mp.

10. marcialoyd (1073) | 7 months ago | I think it is really a personal decision. If you are not happy with the camera you have by all means buy a new one. Mine is a 8.0 MP Nikon that I bought about a year ago and it takes wonderful pictures. It cost me a little under $200. Maybe if you want a different camera sell the one you have on EBAY or craigslist and put the money towards the expense of a new camera. Just a thought. Have a great night!

suspenseful (17034) | 7 months ago | I was thinking of getting a new one, but it would not be for at least a year, because for family photos and local things, the one we got is quite good, but I am more into landscapes then family photos.
