1. kelpie (142) | 8 months ago | I didn't get far in the installation, because something messed up, but I really liked how the install was setup for Arch Linux. I was able to choose all that I wanted, which means no bloatware, and I don't have useless crap I don't need, and I am able to choose where to mount parts to (e.g./,/tmp,/var,/home, etc). I really liked that. And even though it doesn't install X, a Windows Manager, or a Desktop Environment, I like that too, because I'd prefer to pick what I want.
I'm cooling off currently so I can figure out how to get the install to work properly on my EeePC 4G surf.

| 6. panjanglow (43) | 7 months ago | I have tried on Redhat, Ubuntu, Fedora and Moblin. I prefer Redhat as I am more familiar with it. According to my colleague who is a Linux Validation Engineer, if you are new to linux, Ubuntu is a good starter. There is another distribution which is still in Beta version, namely Moblin. I like the interface as it is really attractive.

| 7. thebrokenbox (27) | 7 months ago | My favorite is Ubuntu. I have been using Ubuntu since the release of 9.40 Jaunty, but before that I was using Linux Mint which was based off of Ubuntu so I've pretty much been using Ubuntu for the past couple months. I made the switch after I couldn't take Windows Vista any more and decided to set myself free of the bloated operating system. Since then I haven't looked back and love my Ubunutu install. I have had one problem but was able to fix it relatively easily with the help of the Ubuntu forums, which is awesome. I can use Open Source software and just have freedom with my os that was lacking with Vista, that's why I love Ubunutu.

tonyllenium (2054) | 7 months ago | Yes i think that many users now and in the past watched Linux distribution much more after the release from microsoft of Vista system which it sometimes has some problems and stability very different in realtion to other version as xp or oldest!! In reality ubuntu had much success among linux distrubiton and i think it is quite good facts consiering ubuntu an improved os from this point of view!!If you was able to fix some problems it is good beause there are some users that when they start and econunter problems they will be a bit bored about that...So i think seeing that you improved your ubuntu experience now have also the possibility to discover more and improve your experience on this os too...as regards open source is normal i think that when you try some os on this policy normally it is difficult to turn back towards propietary ones!!

| darkshadow88 (22) | 7 months ago | I have to agree with Ubuntu. Ubuntu has the best hardware support that I've seen out of any of the Linux distros and it keeps getting better with each release.

| camkueh (7) | 7 months ago | For desktop, I prefer to use Ubuntu because it's friendly use for new user to Linux. Before, I've used RedHat 6.2 for first time using Linux and then try many distro like Mandrake (Mandriva). When I need to server environment, I really love the distro that we can take more control on it. So, I've tried Slackware and it's good choice. But, in the future time after that, Gentoo come to my experiment with more of kernel dev choice like Nitro and Love kernel. It's really good for server.
Unfortunately, I must use Windows again because of some applications not available in Linux. My Linux hobby is still as is and sometimes I use it on dual booting system for pure environment. Oftenly, using it in my virtualization system using Qemu or VirtualBox. And now, it's Slax. I really like it: small, friendly, and modular.
