Had enough of all this political correctness?

I know I'm not the only one who's had enough of all this political correctness in society these days. A few examples:
A blackboard in my country is no longer a blackboard - its now a chalkboard so as not to be racist towards boards. A whiteboard is still a whiteboard, where's the fairness in that?
I used to teach a 2 year old class in a nursery. I was amazed at the telling off I got for singing 'baa baa black sheep' when I should have also been singing white sheep, yellow sheep, orange sheep and rainbow sheep. OK but thats not what I learnt when I was a kid! I almost got the sack for telling a parent their child had been a bit hyperactive. Apparently I wasnt qualified to give this diagnosis. Now should I have said to the parent "your child has been a little s**t all day, injured several children and given me concussion throwing a heavy toy at my head. please dont bring him back!"?
The way the welfare system works in this country is priority given in this order:
1 homosexual foreign people
2 homosexual people
3 'asylum seekers' who are automatically citizens
4 single mothers with way too many children who have never worked a day in their lives
5 foreign families
6 2 parents with kids, both parents have never worked
7 single people who have never worked
and finally if you are an honest hard working person who has never taken time out of work, you have to fight tooth and nail to get basic sick pay if you're ever unlucky enough to be that ill.
Homosexual people or foreign people are always given priority in employment. Even if they are less qualified than their competition.
These are just a few examples, I could go on. Simple point is that the world has gone crazy. I have foreign friends in this country. I have had homosexual friends. I do not mind them at all, I am not racist or homophobic, but I am sick and tired of having to watch what I say or what I do just because everyone is so afraid of being politically correct! Its sad really. I dont get why we cant just be nice to everyone and have done with it. You should work hard or as hard as you can, be qualified if you want a certain job, and just have kids because you want to start a family and not because you'll be paid if you do.
Anyone else feel this way? How are things like this where you live? If everyone is equal in your country please tell me where you live so I can come and live there!

I live on a fixed income that is below the 30% poverty level, yet I do not qualify for any assistance because I will not take SSI. SSI is a form of welfare here and I will not take it. I just wanted some help with some medical bills, but I cannot get it unless I take the welfare too. Now is that stupid or what? I am totally disabled so I do qualify for the money, I just don't want it because I get by without it until major medical things come up.

Good on you! I am the same. I'd just feel so guilty if I took more than I needed from the state. Sadly though, many others are not the same and will try anything to get even more than they are even entitled to.

When I tried to get child support through my ex's SSI they told me it was welfare. It kind of is, but you don't have to report to them every month or go through yearly reviews.
I'd take the SSI if I were you. There are programs within it that will help you. Not just for the money or the medical. My autistic daughter is in a program that will help her go to school and start a business. You really should check into it.

Maybe they are called chalkboards because they're not all black, some are green. It may have nothing to do with being politically correct, it's probably because you'd look kind of dumb calling a green chalkboard a blackboard.
As for the nursery thing, I think a lot of parents are way too sensitive about stuff these days.
I disagree with you about the welfare system. My husband is on unemployment without a problem. We get passed up for jobs because we're not from here and therefore we don't have an in. (It's a small town, if you're not from here it's really difficult to get a job.) I've been passed up for several jobs where I'm more qualified than the person they hired because Betty's niece needed a job. It's bull, but there's not a whole lot I can do about it. I'll be filing for unemployment this week, since it's all done online and they don't ask for my marital status (and there's no state income tax so there's no way for unemployment to know whether I'm married or not), my race, if I'm gay etc.
I do think things have gotten to PC though.

I think 'chalkboard' is racist because chalk is white. Unless of course you are using colored chalk and in that case it's okay because the chalk is multicultural.

Wow, blackboards to chalkboards really. We always called them blackboards and I never took it to be a racist term. You learn something new everyday. That is crazy about you getting in trouble for singing baa baa black sheep as it is a well known nursey rime. People are way to sensative sometimes.
I agree that the welfare system is broken in the US and has been abused by some people which makes it harder for the people who acutally need assistance to get it.
Affirmative action has also been mis-used in the US. It was never meant to be used as a quote system but it just seems to be the easiest way for people to implement it.
We should all just take a chill pill and remeber that you don't know everyones life story and how they came to be in the suitation they are in.
Sometimes your best isn't good enought and everyone needs help at some point in there lives. I believe that everyone no matter if the fit a certain creteria or not should be given help.

It is completely ridiculous! I mean, come on, "Ba ba black sheep??" Maybe these uptight people with their heads up their a$$es should stop to logically think that it has NOTHING to do with race! There are white sheep and there are black sheep. They actually exist. Purple sheep, green sheep, rainbow sheep, orange sheep...not real animals people, unless you decide to dye a white sheep!
short = vertically challenged
midget = small person
white = Caucasian
steward or stewardess = flight attendents
black = African-American, or people of color
My favorite comedian, the late, great George Carlin, had a ton of these! He hated political correctness! Just call it what it is! And those of you who have a problem with it, loosen up! Get over it!

Why aren't you Prime Minister? I love it when someone so totally agrees with my views! We have recently moved to Spain, as we are so fed up with England. Over here, if you are genuinely ill, you will receive support, but you don't get a handout just for stepping off the boat or plane. Those of a scrounging disposition look away now: If you are able bodied, you are supposed to work and support yourself and your family in Spain. (shock, horror!)
One of the last straws for me was when my friend's son was turned down for the police force. He passed all the interviews with flying colours, and was sure he'd got the job. When he was refused, he asked why. He was told that he fitted the requirements in all respects apart from his race. The force he applied to had been told to appoint only Asians, Africans or West Indians until further notice. (No, I'm not making this up!)
We know several people of different ethnic origins, and they are all as disgusted with the system as we are. They feel that all this positive discrimination is doing them no favours, and encouraging people to blame them for England's problems. They don't want special treatment - just a level playing field.

This is so strange. I was just having a similar discussion with my spouse, who is British, about blackboards and whiteboards. I think that blackboard is one of those generic terms that came about a long time ago and that regardless of whether it is black or green, we always said blackboard. A whiteboard we usually called a dry-erase board, so that wasn't a problem. After polling the children, I am informed that they no longer say blackboard but they do say whiteboards. I am amazed that I wasn't even aware that I was archaic.
These words though, are just innocent leftovers from when these things came into being. Just as we call all facial tissue "kleenex" regardless of the brand, and you say "hoover" to cover any vacuuming device. When I was young, the refrigerator might be an icebox or a frigidaire (the first brand of fridge here), both appellations stemming from early years.
What political correctness does is point out differences rather than ignore them, and thus tends to make everyone much more aware of them. If the point is to make us all color-blind and gender-blind and all other sorts of blind, then being PC is exactly the way to derail us.
The problem is that anytime any decision is based on race, even if it is to give special consideration to a particular race, it is racism. It is making decisions based on race. which is the definition of racism. I think that if someone is discriminated against because of race, they should have legal recourse, but I don't think we should mandate quotas.
The more they make us afraid to behave normally, without being self-conscious and in a natural way with all people, for fear we might say something that will be misunderstood, the less likely it is that true racism and discrimination can ever be overcome. We have to stop and think about whether asking a black sheep if he has any wool is racist. Well, sheep come in black and black ones have wool. White sheep have wool, too. There are no yellow sheep that I know of, but rainbow sheep would save on dye for the yarn.
The world has gone insane.

I am wiping myself off from rolling on the floor laughing! My kids sit down on their "PANCAKE". I don't particularly care for this term of bottom because my kids eat pancakes, it's a food they like. I certainly don't want them associating food with body parts. Next, criss cross applesauce, instead of sitting Indian style. What freakin idiot did that offend. They should be complimented that we sit like they do!
You can't tell people their children may be sick or not feeling well unless you have a medical license because you aren't qualified to repeat what the child told you. You certainly don't want to be sued.
You can't say someone is feminine. I'm not even sure what you are insulting with that.
Gaaayyy is a term that is okay, no that changed, then they changed it back -okay call it what you want, secksually challenged and let us know so we don't offend.
Short- Can't call anyone short. That's offensive. They are vertically challenged.
Fat or heavy - These are offensive. How's horizontally challenged. Oh wait, that's already taken by the prostitoots,sleazes or whatever you call them.
Masculine - This is a term that implies male and who knows what else so it can't be said in front of anyone that is feminine or secksually challenged.
This discussion is sad but true. I need a memo at least once a week with all the new updates. Don't take me wrong I don't dislike any person unless the INDIVIDUAL has done something personal to me. I dislike having to walk on eggshells because someone can't face what they are.
