My Kitchen is too HOT to Cook In! |
| |
| We just recently moved to a new place and our kitchen is small and very hot. It seems as if the AC vents are not blowing enough air into the kitchen. We just replaced the fridge and I am hoping that will help too. I did buy heavy duty thermal curtains that are helping cut down the sunlight into the area. I am hoping that all of these changes will make my kitchen tolerable so that I can start cooking more. Have you ever been too hot to cook? | | | | | |

| | yeah small hot places are hard to be in when its the summer. you could try to find a cheap air conditioner. that could help. | | | | | | |

| | We got the new fridge installed and it is proving to be much cooler because of it. We do have a small window unit that we could put in if it becomes necessary. My fiance is not wanting to do that but if it gets too hot I will boycott cooking if he does not. | | | |

| | Yes Scoop_Dogg the old fridge had problems and we had to replace it. Put off lots of heat. We got the new one installed this weekend and the kitchen seems to be much better now. | | | |

| | Normally my kitchen isn't too bad, but we're in the middle of a heat wave and my entire house is way too hot to do much of anything. We've been living on leftovers that I can just throw into the microwave and heat up and even then it's not until 9 at night or so by the time it's cool enough to actually eat. Thankfully I've got lots of leftovers. We just had a big grad dinner for both of my sisters-in-law and I brought home almost everything that was left so we should be good for a couple more days yet before I actually have to turn on my stove and cook a meal. | | | | | | |

| | Yes, I have been to hot to cook many many times. I live in Florida and sit and suffer the heat because most days we can't afford to have the AC on. On thoe days I don't try to do much. | | | | | | |

| | I bet you do get hot! I love Florida though. I would be satisfied with a sandwich every night but I am afraid my meat and potatoes men would not. | | | |

| | Here in Oklahoma, the hottest part of the day is between 5 and 7 pm, just when you would normally be cooking. Our A/C works fine, but cooking still heats up the house too much. During the summer, I use my crockpot more, and of course we cook out and eat a lot of salads. When I do have to cook. I try to do it early in the morning, and then we reheat in the microwave at meal time. | | | | | | |

| | Yes I love to use my crockpot too. I need to look up more recipes and try them. I am getting tired of the same old things. I would love to live off of salads and sandwiches during the summer but the rest of the household would die of hunger. | | | |

| | There's getting to be more and more crockpot recipes online. I guess with more households with 2 working people, it has seen a resurgence in popularity. Good thing for us, huh? I agree about the salads and sandwiches. Life would be so much easier. | | | |

| | Yes life would be much easier with just salads and sandwiches during the summer. My family would revolt though. I love finding all sorts of new recipes though! | | | |

| | I know EXACTLY how you feel! We were living in a place that had a window unit in the dining room. I had to put a fan on the table in front of it so cool air was blown into the kitchen. You might think about using a crock pot. That helps keep the heat down. And using an electric skillet. I use mine alot and it helps not heat the place up quite so much. | | | | | | |

| | Oh yes the electric skillet idea is a great one. I would love to have one of those small convection ovens as well. The crock pot does get quite a bit of use as well here. | | | |

| | The humidity here is a real kicker. I would cook with the window open if it were not so humid outside. | | | |

| | My In-Laws house! OMG! They have a tiny house and the oven is sooo hot when it's on! We hate when they want us to have Thanksgiving or whatever holiday even if it's the dead of winter you still want to have the doors open. It's like what are you cooking? The turkey? or your guests??? Otherwise I'd recommend getting a george foreman grill & a crock pot that way it won't contribute to making your house any hotter. Or you could grill outside alot too ;) | | | | | | |

| | OMG if the house is hot even in the middle of winter I know the summer months must just about make you pass out with heat. Since we have installed the new fridge things are getting better now. | | | |

| | Hi shellyann..... firstly congratulation for your new house.......since your kitchen is small you should install a good exhaust system......this will help in throwing the hot gas and steam generated while cooking......an A/C doesn't work well in a kitchen.....it gradually effect your A/c also.....you can install a chimney which will extract all the hot gases and smoke which come out while cooking........these chimneys are fitted right on top of your cooking range and will not have any effect on your A/C......you can just try this out as i have myself used to face this same problem....... | | | | | | |

| | We do have a decent exhaust system. Our problem was an ailing fridge that we just replaced this past weekend. The kitchen has cooled down quite a bit since it was replaced. Thank you for your suggestions! | | | |
