Some call it the 'mouth of the beast'.The Iron Mountain Mine, which is widely regarded by scientists as one of the most polluted places in the world. The water is so acidic that droplets eat holes in blue jeans and dissolve the stitching on boots, much like battery acid. It's an environmental mess that started in the 1800s. Do you know of a polluted area near where you live that needs cleaned up? I think this sort of stuff is just so scary. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/06/11/MN9Q185QAK.DTL&tsp=1&nopu=1

Oh really...this water can be deadly. It's sad to know that water is one of the important thing that we cannot live with out. Yet this particular water is the world worst water. Human beings did this I'm very sure of that. Another evidence of humans cruelty againts nature.

Now that is one that I wanna stay far away from. Talk about taking the clothes right off your back if you decided to jump in that water...I think places like that needed to be guarded so people will stay clear of that area.

That is terrible. I am sure there are alot more places like that around the world. We do not have very good water here either where we live. I know they test it but I can see with my own eyes, that it is not very pure.

Not that I know of. That is kind of creepy that the water could do that to your clothes. It seems like an awful long time for it to be a problem too.

Onondaga Lake! It's a very large, and potentially beautiful lake about 15 minutes from me. It was polluted a few decades ago by the dozens of factories around it. Most of the factories were forced to stop, but one factory hid their pollution and didn't stop until the 80's when they were caught. They're currently investing millions of dollars to clean the lake. There's obviously no swimming. You can boat and fish, but just catch and release. It's not the "eat through your jeans" type of pollution. Just a lot of mercury.
