Do You Think Special Effects In TV Shows Are Too Loud? |
|
My wonderful husband loves to watch the sci-fi channel. Too much sci-fi drives me nuts, not because it's not interesting, but because it's too NOISY, and when certain lights come on and off, it flashes too, and assaults my senses. I have very sensitive hearing, and have a lot of problems with certain pitches. Certain shows he watches are impossible for me to tolerate. His hearing is not the best, so not only does he not hear the high pitches that bug me, but he can't hear the TV itsself, when it's at a comfortable level for me. Does anyone else think that the special effects in certain TV shows have gotten out of hand?

The pitches, and especially the flashing of lights drive me crazy! And extremely loud. When I go to a theatre I have to wear earplugs, no joking. Some commercials are like that now too. My hubby is partially deaf, though he won't admit it. My hubby says I have the hearing of a bat. Thank you for this discussion.

3. winterose (17620) | 6 months ago | he should see about the hearing devices that are advertised on tv all the time, he can adjust the volume to his liking and you can have the tv lower, really the two of you have to be comfortable living together, it is a give and take, so I would suggest that he look into that and you both will be able to hear at the level that is best for you.

4. gitfiddleplayer (5029) | 6 months ago | I think its worse with kid cartoons, Anime is really bad. I think there was a cartoon a few years ago in Japan that was part of the Yu Gi Oh or Pokemon craze and it had a flashing light that triggered a bunch of kids who have epilepsy. Emergency rooms all over the area had kids admitted for siezures, thing is, they played it again at 3:00pm when all the kids were home from school, same thing happened again.

5. coffeebreak (4829) | 6 months ago | Boy howdy, you are singing my song!! My husband is the same way! Hard of hearing a bit from the construction work of a life time, but still... he turns that up so loud I have to leave the room! I ask him to turn it down and he won't... says it isn't loud... must be my earing problem. And he watches all the spook, sci-fi, killing, murders.. all the stuff that generates the loudest yells and agony screams!
And yes, I think tv shows have gotten out of hand.. they show nearly everything, and the crimes they show are horrible, the killings and all that stuff... sorry, but that is to close to real life... I don't want to have to watch it on tv! I just don't understand why some people like watching that kind of stuff. Then turn around and get mad at people that mimick in real life what they saw on CSI last night!

6. djsimonmlb (363) | 6 months ago | Maybe in the movies yes but the TV volume can be adjusted so that they are not loud. Have you ever been to a movie theater that had like speakers everywhere and you could hear like the simplest things in the movies so the big sounds would like destroy your eardrums? I think the special effects give the watcher a special effect and therefore it makes the movie very intensifying and interesting.

7. ravinder18 (629) | 6 months ago | Yes, sometimes I think the same also. Sometimes I do feel special effects in TV shows are too loud especially when I feel tired or sleepy. But sometimes I don't feel it. I also like to watch sci-fi channel. If I think the special effects are too loud, i will slow the volume.

8. arkaf61 (5729) | 6 months ago | Yes I do. Not only specific shows but commercials as well, of course. Commercials always come out much louder than whatever program we are watching and that is no fluke. It's done on purpose. As for hearing, I am noticing that my hearing is changing. I seem to have trouble hearing some things. Not everything. I can hear low sounds, but at times it seems that what people are saying comes out in such a way that I can't make out what they're saying, specially the kids for some reason.

| 10. RiSmix (9) | 6 months ago | Sometimes they are too loud but I think it's better than too silent. But, it's true, SOMETIMES they could be more quiet. Still I don't mind if they are too loud. Normally it doesn't bother at all.
