You can really get into trouble when you download songs.... WOW!

Really? I dont know that .. i am using also limewire to get music so far dont have any problem encounter. I hope i will not be dealing such that thing. Maybe its only good when you download a song and used it for personal but not to share the music i think thats the violation she get. Sorry for the woman ..

it's not so much you downloading the songs, it when you download them and send them or sale them to other people. which is call file sharing

I know a few ppl that use limewire but for me it isn't worth the risk that you take. I can go to YouTube and hear any song I want...complete with video...anytime I want and I won't get into trouble. It's like copying DVD's, at the very beginning most movies say the penalty for copying the movie is 5 years in prison and $500,000 in fines. Imagine how many movies you could buy for $500,000 and how much of your life you'd miss out on in 5 years...all to copy a movie that might cost you $10-15. Just not worth the risk.

And that is half the problem right there. She used kazaa. Kazaa has been taken over by them years ago, and has so many damn viruses its not funny, wonder what her computer looked like. Hell I bet they put something on her computer to track her by her using that crappy program. I dont use limewire, I use Mirc or mininova to get anything. You didnt know its a copyright violation to download music or anything else? They dont let you, these sites are not part of them lol. They are pirate sites. Hell ive been a pirate for about 13 years now. I download music, movies, computer games, tv shows, and applications, and I find cracks for the apps so I dont have to pay for the few that I have that you are supposed to. Ive never gotten caught, you just have to know how to do it.

Hello there! I never really heard of it... I think this is just a rumor... I am a certified expert in the world of internet (although im just new here) and as far as I know, P2P programs such as LimeWire are legal and licensed... The thing that makes that woman to be accused for something (if it's real), she published copies of that song in the web without a licensed. If you're the one dowloaded the LimeWire program from the web, they will ask you a question if you are gonna use your downloads personally or perform it on public, if you choose perform it on the public (not the actual sentence, but with the same sense) they won't allow you to get the program. Meaning, your downloads from LimeWire should be used personally, OK?

People have actually been cracking down on limewire users lately. My parents have wireless internet, and got an angry letter that said they would be prosecuted if they didn't stop using limewire. Apparently, one of their neighbors is using their wireless internet and sharing songs on limewire CONSTANTLY.

My dad had to explain to the company that it wasn't them and told them he was password-protecting their internet so it could not happen again. Hopefully, the neighbor will not be able to crack into the wireless and do this again. My parents haven't heard anything back, and they still don't know which neighbor it is that was stealing internet!

I think that was real dumb of her, to share the music that she downloaded, on the internet, she knew what she was doing, and I don't feel sorry for her, people do dumb things, then when they get into trouble, they act like they didn't know, this downloading issue is nothing new, it has been on the news before, so I am not surprised this woman got caught, lot more will get caught because it has been done before.

I had heard that. I don't download many, just a few free ones from places like Amazon.

This is a case of the problem that just won't go away, dloveli. I heard about this on the radio news and was immediately reminded of when the case first got started. I believe the fact that the recording companies have agreed to accept a few thousand to make the case go away is an admission that they are using this woman for a scapegoat, to make an example of her. I'm reasonably certain that the amount of music she downloaded illegally could not be worth almost $2 million. I also believe that she has suffered enough public humiliation to "make the case go away."
