Every once in a while I come across a discussion that I know is pointless to respond to but I do it anyways. I know it will get me flamed and tick me off but I just can not seem to pass it by. I had one like that this morning. I know it is a topic that starts a lot of fights and no one ever changes anyone else’s mind but I put my 2 cents in anyways. Now I wish I had just skipped it. Have you ever done this? Do you feel it was a pointless post? Do you have a hard time not replying to certain topics? **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

Yes, but sometimes I avoid this same scenario because it will only affect my mood and become irritable through out the discussion. I choose topics which I have something to say and try an effort to calm my mind and expand my wisdom.

Hi twoey68, Yes I have done that but now I avoid it as I don't want to be in a conflict with anyone, but when I did, this person was so rude to me and I just didn't want to waste any time on him, so now I just stay away from thes sort of heated discussions. Tamara

I tend to stay away from hot topics, so I would say, No, I don't "have a hard time not replying to certain topics". Sorry you got caught in the web of fire.

The way I see it you were just standing strong in your beliefs...rfl. Hope it doesn't cost you any rating points, but hey, I don't have my blue star any more either. I probably wouldn't have noticed either except that several people sent commiserating IM's. Awwwww, shucks!

Oh absolutely. I pick my battles so I won't say 'I just do it all the time' but I DO do it. I can't help it! I always feel that it's shaky ice when I respond to anything in the realm of religion or politics, even if the discussion starter AGREES with me, simply because I know that the loonies will come out sooner or later to attack with their side. All I can say is that even if my opinion or two cents changes nothing on the surface, there are other people who agree who might SEE what I said and feel more strong in their matching beliefs, even if they don't say anything. That means my two cents made a difference, even if it wasn't visible to the naked eye. That's really what matters, that other people can feel cheered and supported and not give in to other lunatics when they get on their stage lol. Anyway, I don't feel it's pointless, even if it seems that way. You never know who your words will affect, or how it will affect them. It's always worth a shot. I'm still choosy about where I get my hackles raised, but I don't avoid ALL conflict just because I know it's out there.

I used to do this on issues I felt strongly about but, so many times it ended in some people just being abusive, that I gave up. Now if I feel strongly about a subject, I write it down in private or talk to a family member. They may have a different point of view, and that's fine, but they will not resort to personal abuse because they disagree with me like a minority of members on here have done in the past.

I joined in a dumb melee of posts and counter posts, and yet, I felt nothing was changed, proven or improved. I think some people have a lower opinion of me now, and I wish I had just stayed out of all of the many discussions in the chain of events.

I certainly have regretted responding to some discussions. I know this is not very nice of me but if I am in a bad mood and want to vent and get it out of my system I will purposely get involved in some fights. Then I can just leave the discussion when I have put in my two cents...I usually feel much better after getting my say.

Yeah. There are some I have seen that I either have no interest in or the subject is put forth in such a way that no matter what I say it won't do. So I don't.

I dont know sometimes I see something that I know I will not change the other person's mind but I will respond to it. I guess that there are people who just feel the need to post regardless of whether they have anything legitmate or interesting to say. Furthermore they often put in something controversial to get a reaction from others.

Those are the kind that you either state a neutral opinion or skip over. I know I've gotten into various touchie topics w/ the wrong people so if I can I avoid them on all platforms. As some of them there is no right answer but some folks think if they comment or start to argue their side that you will change your opinion and to me they are just wasting everyone time that way.

No, the longer responses will earn you more in the long run, so please be informative and thorough. I will say that I hope that you are putting those paragraphs as responses and not comments to responses though.

Actually, I just passed one of those by. I really felt stupid because I read the entire discussion and the responses (only 2) and debated on putting in my 2 cents. I wanted to really bad - to set the record straight - but I didn't. I went on to the next discussion.

It happens to me on occassions. Now I am a bit more careful. If I can't think of an appropriate response to a discussion, then I will leave it for a while and think about it. Then I will either respond or just skip over it. Anyway, I think people should be allowed to voice their own opinions without getting ticked off. After all, that is what makes discussions more interesting. I think they would be pretty boring if everybody just agreed with each other.

Yeah, I don't have a problem with anyone disagreeing with me ... that's called "conversation". Maybe in this day when Texting is so prevelant... people have forgotten about "conversation"!!! And I dont' mind a little banter back and forth... again.. discussion. But when they get ornary and mouthy cause we disagree...that's when I call it quits and figure they only started it so that they could argue anyway!!! Yeah, it would be boring if all agreed....I have learned alot of "other sides of the story" here at MyLot by people telling what they think or believe or just plain have to say!

I do that as well. I do not consider the topic pointless, but I do wish people would not accuse those who disagree with them with racist, horrible names, and making me feel that it was good that I had a pseudonym here on mylot, rather then my own name or else they would find a guy on the street and say, "do you want to make a hundred thousand dollars? I want you to kill someone." and that someone would be me. I mean when it comes to abortion, same gender marriages, Christianity, etc. sometimes I cannot keep quiet, on and the fact that I am a dog lover rather then a cat lover (although after seeing Dog Whisperer, maybe I should lot love dogs that much). it is a wonder if I have not been attacked more often.

Hi twoey That is one thing I don't do, if it is a discussion that I see as a pointless discussion then I leave it, especially if I know it is going to cause a 'riot' or upset someone..it is just something I like to avoid so will go on to the next discussion...LoLo

Ummm yeah often and even when they are stupid discussions like one the other day about clipping cats nails. Who knew that stating that you get your cat declawed would have so many people attack you over it. It doesn't upset me I just get fumed that people are so defensive and don't look at the whole picture.
