I'm beyond disgusted..... Some people are so undeserving of being called human.

Yet another horrible case. That poor girl. To think that we may have to mentally accept acts such as the one I've shared and your own example is such a depressing thought. People will always prey on the weak, but to see such young people being responsible for attacks such as these is disgusting. I agree that it's a slap in the face for us all too. Where we all go from here though is anybody's guess. This is becoming more and more common these days and I shudder to think how things may be in the future if these types of negative trends continue to gain momentum.

No problem zed. There are always going to be people in this world looking to take advantage of the weak or exploit others that can't necessarily think for themselves. It's disgusting and I too feel nothing but contempt and anger twoards people like that. They should be wiped from the planet.

There's really not much more to say I reckon because I sometimes feel the same way. It's not the ultimate answer that'll fix anything, but it's natural to feel like this.

It sure IS shocking and appalling; and on so many levels too. What kind of father is this that isn't there to support his 8 year old child? How could he possibly NOT see how much of a tragedy this is and how it isn't the poor little girl's fault? And the behaviour of these 4 boys at such young ages??? How on earth do kids this young come to think up acts like these? What kind of adults will they become if they're exhibiting behaviours like this as children?

My heart is breaking for this poor little girl and I hope and pray that a good family is found for her and that the state provides her with all the psychological help she needs as well. This was such a depressing thing to read first up this morning. As for deterrents, I wouldn't even know where to start! I do understand that certain cultures or communities are very "proud", but this has nothing to do with pride and the little girl's well being should come first and foremost. I'm just totally stunned that such a thing can happen and that a parent can then be so callous and heartless.

EVER. her so called father should be locked up as well and also sterilised so he can't have any more children. To think that a parent can be this way towards their own child after such a horrendous event is gut wrenching. Hi TLC. Yes, through a topic such as this one isn't really the best of ways for us to touch base is it? I agree with you that the actions of this little girl's father will create one of the deepest scars of all. How disgusting that he would abandon her like this and become so heartless. A parent is supposed to love and support their child, not put their pride first! And the boys that did it? Lock them up and throw away the key. The fact that the youngest is only 9 is totally irrelevant. They should NEVER be released in my opinion. Situations like these appear to be more and more common these days and it's disgraceful that society has made things this way.

Yes, it's a cultural bias that's caused the father to be this way. I'm not usually one to be judgemental either and especially when it comes to cultural differences; but any mindset that puts family pride or reputation ahead of a child's welfare is far from acceptable in my opinion. I agree with you that this idiot should piss off back to Liberia if he expects to live his life in another country with negative mindsets like this. I don't necessarily agree that a person moving to another country has to embrace in entirety the ways of that new country and they have every right to maintain their cultural identity, but this doesn't include stone aged, evil ideals like this example. I was surprised to see it was a case in the USA as well and it's not something you'd expect at all. As for finding a new family, I hope for the same for this poor little girl because she deserves all the love and care the world has to offer after a trauma like this one.

They should house the little girl with a wonderful new family and then send that a**hole "father" of hers back to Liberia. Me too mimpi and it was a sobering start to my day to open up the news site I check every morning to see this story. No sane human being could place the blame on an 8 year old child in a situation like this, yet this is exactly what's happened. This so called "father" deserves to rot in a festering pit somewhere. The boys who dod this should be forced to sit alongside him in that pit for an eternity too. The whole situation is heart breaking and absolutely disgusting in every way. All we can hope is that this poor little girl gets all the love and support she needs to make it through this and to have a fighting chance of as normal a life as possible moving forward.

That would be ideal for the people like them. And all the little girl now need if love and support and my prayers are for her. i just wish she gets support from her family and society. She is just a 8 year old for God's sake!

This is what's so heartbreaking about the situation. An 8 year old child looks to their parents for love, support and guidance. Where is all of that in this instance? There ISN'T any and the family's reputation is more important to this man than the welfare of his child. It's so sad.

The family is originally from Liberia in West Africa and although they've started a new life in the USA, they've decided to bring a negative and archaic mindset with them. Mindsets like these are rampant in many cultures I'm afraid and it's all geared towards a patriarchal structure too. It's a horrible thought to know that women and children throughout the world are suffering so greatly as a byproduct of such thinking.

I am familiar with this archaic mindset James. Its not uncommon in rural India. However, we were brought up in the most healthy and most beautiful of environments. I am lucky and am grateful to my parents, my family.

You are VERY lucky indeed mimpi! There would be so many women and children in this world with SO much potential, yet they're being kept down by evil and counter productive beliefs and mindsets. It's a sad thing to think about.

You would be surprised to know that I lived in a family for some time where I was made to realise how little and petty women are! I was humiliated like anything and was made to eat last for it's thought the last food is the worst and stuffs like that. Luckily I am over that now.

What a horrible experience that must have been for you. The positive thing is that you're now free of that and I guess being in circumstances like these would also have you appreciating many things more too yes? I've certainly never been in a similar situation, but not having material possessions helped me learn to appreciate what I DO own at a much deeper level. Even after hard times there are always things to be gained such as wisom and a deeper respect for who we are and what we have.

Yes, the wisdom and experience we gather from untoward situations in life takes us a long way. I am certainly wiser now and try to respect all those values, respect and freedom that my parents have bestowed upon me. I also try to understand the other side of the story and can be a good judge of what I should and should not do.

Learning to understand all sides of something is one of the most important things to gain in my opinion. It's so easy for us to become stubborn and self absorbed when it comes to someone questioning us or having an issue with us. Being able to recognise all angles and then take each of them into consideration when deciding what we do or say next is a heck of a skill to have! We'll never always get things right, but our odds improve if we're unbiased!

That's so true James! Now I know that its important to lose as well. Sometimes losing makes you a winner for the good of all around us. And the odds get better definitely. I am much poised, calm and understanding now.

The odds DO generally improve as we grow as a person because the wisdom we gain along the way better prepares us for future adversity! We wouldn't come to appreciate the highs in life as much as we do if it weren't for the lows either! As with everything in existence, it's all about opposites and BALANCE. Thankfully for many of us, the balancing act of life becomes less precarious over time and even that thin tight rope that we sometimes feel ourselves wavering on can widen too! The youngest of these boys was 9 years old for God's sake! There's no question that he was probably influenced heavily by the older children to some degree, but still! I can't even bring myself to imagine what this poor little girl is going through right now. An extremely traumatic event has occured that she probably dpesn't even fully understand and then the people that are supposed to love and protect her have now turned their backs on her. The "father" doesn't deserve the right to call himself a human being in my opinion and should be drawn and quartered. He should also be sent back to the country he came from because mindsets like his are unacceptable in a civilized society. I'm familiar with the Bolger case too and that was a horrific case in itself. I hope that the boys that raped this poor little girl are NOT given the same concessions the two murderous little scumbags that killed James Bolger received because they don't deserve any leniency EVER.

It is truly a shame and a statement of how women and children are valued. The father,being more worried about his "honor", should be indicted for the crime as well. I know the world is a different place but society has to adapt new methods of sheltering our youth. "If they want to act like adults ....treat them like adults and let the punishment fit the crime."
