What About Cash For Appliances?  

I want some cash for my old clothes so I can buy newer, snappier outfits. The textile industry is important too.

But as far as energy savings go, old appliances are a big energy drain. They should buy up our old energy-wasting air conditioners and help us buy new, energy-efficient ones for the global warming - whenever it's supposed to arrive.

I know that you get a tax credit for buying energy saving appliances like refrigerators or air conditioners but it would be nice to get cash at the time of purchase. I would be willing to pay the cost of replacing my existing central A/C unit, which is almost ten years old, if I had that kind of motivation.

I don't agree (shocking I know) with your statement that it will hurt the automobile industry long term. Right now car sales are so low that they need every sale they can get, so even if it boost sales for a few months that is a few months of car sales that they didn't have.

I do think that the cash for appliances would be a great idea, old appliances use alot more energy then new energystar appliances. If you were to do that, I would personally trade in my stove, or dishwasher for a new one if you gave me a tax credit. But, it is hard to make these changes because most of us hate change. Remember when they announced getting rid of the old light bulbs and moving to new energy saving bulbs? People were outraged, even though it would cut our energy consumption dramaticly. People didn't care, they wanted what they had, and got very upset about it.

Cash for appliances is a great idea. I think they are offering a tax credit for purchasing energy efficient appliances. I have a refrig and stove I need to get rid of asap. Maybe scrap metal?
