How Long Can A Pet Dog Live?

We have a 4 month old lhasa-tzu breed female dog. I don't have any idea for the life span but it's nice to hear that you have took care of your dog quite a long time now. 12 years is a very long time. I'm sorry to hear that your dog is slightly deaf. Just make sure you spend quality time with your pet. We also have a dog his name is Bruce who is 10+ years old. I can't really say that his hearing is already bad but his eyes do have cataracts already. Look at his picture!

My next door neighboor had one that lived to be 16 to 17 years old.

I guesse it would all depend on the health of the dog also and any medical problemes.

Even I have one dog named Tuffy he is still 4 years old and he is loved by every one in the family and me and my brother loved him also. he is one of our brother like. i always pray to god that give he life long and he stay with us for life long

Yes I think you're right about the life span of dogs. I got a pet dog once a long time ago and she got to live for 12 years. I guess keeping your pet healthy and providing healthy food to them contribute to a longer lifespan. I'm sure a great pet owner having a dog to still be alive at that age:)

normal lifespan of dogs is 10 to 12 years. sometime depending upon the breed of the dog, it differs. usually toy dogs live upto 14 years normally. some big sized dogs struggle to live upto 10 years.

Most dogs do live around 10 and 12 years. As others have posted, it depends on lots of factors. Health and Diet is very important. Also, different dog breeds have different life spans. Some breeds are known for their differnt health issues. It also depends on the size. Smaller dog breeds like yours tend to live a longer life, and larger dogs shorter. There are many exceptions, so I wouldn't worry about your dog. What's important is that he's active and healthy. I have known dogs and cats have lived lot longer that the normal life span!!!

Dogs can live much longer than 12 years. I had a dog that was about 14 when he died. He suddenly got real sick, I believe he was poisoned, and my stupid father wouldn't take him to the vet even though, at the time he had the dog longer than me. I think that he would have lived for much longer if that had not happened. My cat is 15 years old and she is still way healthy. She still hunts and runs and plays.

I had a dog that lived til she was 15yrs old, she was a black lab, she had a seizure and died, my cousin had an Irish Setter that live til she was 17yrs old so it depends upon the breed and the health of the dog as to how long they live...The best way to find out the avg. life expectancy of your breed is to research it...

the average life span varies a lot between species. I think the average for Shih Tzu's is actually closer to 13-15. I have friends who have had dogs who have lived to 18-20. The lifespan depends on so many different things. Every dog is different. I have not had a dog pass away yet. I have a 12 year old chocolate lab and a 2 year old yellow lab. They are the only dogs I have ever owned. In general smaller dogs live longer than bigger dogs but this is not always the case.

I too hv a dog, but he is only three years old yet. My previous dog was a lapsa dog and he lived to the age of fourteen and a half. These days with good food products for dogs and better medical facilities available dogs' life span has also increased and they easily live upto 14 or 15 years of age.
