Choose Your Own Engagement Ring, Or Have Your Mate Surprise You?

I didn't engage with my husband, we get married directly.
For the marriage ring, I chose it by myself as I want to ware a ring that I like.

I chose my own too. We actually bought the wedding set with the engagement ring. My husband and I both chose the set together, that we both knew we would like and wear. I like to choose what I actually like also.

As much as I would like to leave the decision to my mate, I think I would want a part in deciding what type of ring to get because, like you say, I'm the one that would be wearing it. My ex had tastes that were a lot more gaudy and overpriced than anything that I would have liked so, I would have chosen to get a pretty but subtle ring. Of course at the time we were in a church that didn't really approve jewelry and I'm sorry to say that I never told my ex how much I wanted a wedding ring so I missed out on that. That's one of the few regrets I have about that time.

When my hubby & I got engaged, it was about 9 months before O got a proper engagement ring. We went shopping together & I narrowed it down to 2 rings that I liked & he saw me try them on & picked the one he liked best.

Well I've had it both ways, my first husband bought the ring that I said I liked when we were at the store having one of my rings fixed. About a month later he asked me to marry him with that ring. My second husband picked out the ring and asked me to marry him and later bought me a ring that I liked and wanted LOL I would love to be involved with buying a ring if the man doesn't have good taste.

I would prefer to be surprised rather choose myself. I have been making my own decisions all the while. Once a while to let someone make the decision is a good relief, especially when I can push the blame to someone else later... LOL.

My husband said the same thing I should be the one there to pick out my set of rings since I was the one wearing them. He said he did however go looking and he narrowed it down to three favorites and he wanted to see if I picked any one of the three. As it turned out I picked his number one fav but when I found out the set was 5,000,00 I said No Way could I justify paying that. Hubby said, "well you don't have to justify it because I'm paying for them." and with that the rings were mine. Now they sit in the box as we are no longer together.

Hi danish...We actually went shopping together and looked at all sorts of rings because I wanted something different - a sapphire instead of a diamond...which apparently is unusual among women to want anything other than a diamond. I wasn't looking for a certain style - just a nice looking ring that wasn't going to break my husband's bank account. We looked at a lot of different rings but he chose the one I'm wearing right now and he chose the day to give it to me - I'll never forget it!

my husband surprised me and he picked out a very lovely ring that i no longer have because we had to sell it this past year due to financial problems. i did not have much jewelery to begin with and what little i did have is gone as it all had to be sold. but he did a good job at picking out a very lovely ring. i like being surprised.

Well i am really waiting to do this, i want to choose a engagement ring for my beloved.Infact i want to design my marriage venue and my wedding dress too, here when a bride is getting married her dress, accessories and almost everything is designed by parents or some elder ones.but i want to do this for my wedding because wedding happens once for life time and is forever and memorable.
