Do you feel all Asians look like the same? |
| |
| I have heard that from lots of caucasians that they feel Asians look very similar, they cannot tell which is from which countries. They all have same facial features, do you agree with that? I am a Asian, we have lots of whites in my home country, I always couldn't tell what they are all from because they all have same features as well juts like the way white look at Asians I think. And now I couldn differentiate some by listening to their accent. What do you think about this topic? I think it is very interesting, I hope I can receive your comments :-) | | | | | |

| | Hahah. I am caucasian and I definitely disagree. I don't think they look any more alike than two white or black people. That being said, I know some friends who do agree with you. I think it all just depends on the person. | | | | | | |

| | Yes sometimes I'm also an Asian but we can distinguised who are Filipinos. In some Asian neighboring countries it is hard to tell who are Japanese, Chinese and Koreans because they look all the same. Same with the Europeans it is also hard to tell which country they are from if you refering to their appearances. Filipinos are recognizable because of the accents and even we are mixed of some races we can be easily distinguised. | | | |

| | I'am from asians. I always see some American movies or TV show .In fact sometimes it's a litte hard for me to tell from one person to another . Some of us think asians or other countries peple look like the same I think it might because we don't know each other very well .Maybe the more different countries people you recognise, then more clearly you can distinguish. so making more friends! enjoying the different counties culture! then enjoy we world! happy my lotting! | | | |

| | I'm Asian, and yes sometimes I even feel hard to differ one Asian to the others, but it depends on the territories. For example, it's hard to differ East Asian person (especially girls) such as Japanese, Chinese, Singaporean or Korean girls cause they have quite the same features. White skin and small eyes. You have to look better to look where they came from. Usually I think Korean has round jaw and sharper nose, Japanese girls can be differentiate by looking their style (there's something unique about there style, like harajuku, although not all Japanese people dress like this). But I cannot differentiate Chinese girls, they all look like the same. I remember funny experience from interview in my current workplace. When I was being interviewed by my boss who is Philippines, I thought he's also Indonesian, so there's some misunderstanding happened cause I thought he knew about the city very well, I was explaining where I grew up etc, then after he keeps speaking English with a thick accent, then I realize he's not Indonesian lol. | | | | | | |

| | Yes, I agree. But it is not just Asians, I think it is that way with every race. I am white and I could not distinguish a white person from America from a white person from another country, just by looking at them! | | | |

| | yeah, I think maybe the whites also feel the same about white people, hardly differ from which countrt they are. But generally I can differ people from Europe and US. The European usually has classic face structure, the nose, the jaw, the forehead, while American usually have rounder face. It's hard to explain this in words, I have to look at the person:) I also found it hard to remember Chinese names, which usually has 3 words. All the words seems the same, luckily many Chinese added Western name to their Chinese names, easier to remember.. | | | |

| | I love Asian people, but as for telling them apart in the sense of which countries they come from I have to say that I can't. But I don't think they all look the same at all. They have similar features but I don't think in any way that they look like clones or anything. So if you mean, if when I look at them they all look the same then no, but telling where they come from I wouldn't know. But then when I see someone from London, or Australia, or almost any place I wouldn't know that either. I think you are correct in that most people would just see an asian as an asian. Maybe because people just catagorize others. If you see an african american then they must be from Africa...not true, they might come from Brazil how would you know? I do think you've brought up an interesting topic! Hope you have a great day :D | | | | | | |

| | You say exactly what I mean - Afircan american but I would just look at them as African... It is specially hard for me to distinguish if I don't hear their accent, I might not even be able to tell their nationality by listening to their accent. Thanks for sharing :-) | | | |

| | yes i also do agree with you that what you are saying is absolutely right...specially except countries like china and japan..almost all countries ...have unidentical communities...people do not look like each other if they do look like then they would surely be a twins or somthing like that..but u know in china and japan almost all people are very identical to each other..one can not judge them whith one go..!!! :) ;) | | | |

| | I am a female caucasian. Living in America there are folks from all cultural backgrounds everywhere, and a great many intermixed. It has taught me to ignore these things, except as an interest in various cultures. So I don't think about it much. Once I get to know a person as a person, then their cultural background may - or may not - become a topic of discussion, because it may influence the way they act or feel or believe. It is hard to look at someone and know where they came from. I think some countries, like India or Iran, have not intermixed nearly as much and so have more classic, recognizable features. Others, like Korea, China, and Vietnam, have intermixed so it is more difficult. Here in America it is practically impossible to tell by features alone. The way a person acts or speaks is sometimes an easier way of telling. | | | |

| | People from my country looks like Indonesian and Malay. originally, the earliest ancestors were a mixture of Malay and other races from China, Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese. They look the same but you could only identified the differences through their languages and cultures. The eyes of the Japanese and Korean are big with slightly becomes smaller at the pointed eyes curvature if you gonna look from the outside. While Chinese really have small eyes and with yellowish skin..Some Caucasian too look the same as in having white complexion, aquiline nose, blonde hair and eyes like green, blue or brown.and you could only identify them when they speak, with their choice of food, different beliefs and cultures.. | | | | | | |

| | I'm caucasian and I find it very hard to tell Asians from one part of the world from other Asians. I usually just don't ask or assume. If they tell me, then I know. I can almost always tell between Vietnamese and Chinese people. The reason being that the people I know from some local Chinese restaurants, and then the people who work at the nail place down the street that I use to go to (who told me they were Vietnamese), look a lot different. It's not only their eyes but their complexions. It seems to me that Vietnamese people have a more yellowish tint to their skin while Chinese have a very light pink tint. On the same note, I couldn't tell you the difference between some white person with Italian backgrounds and some white people with other dark haired backgrounds such as Hispanic, etc. My dad has Serian in his roots, but he looks Italian to me. I have Native American in my roots (I was adopted), but I'm one of the palest people you'll ever meet. I guess you can't really know for sure until the person tells you. :) | | | | | | |

| | Oh yea... it is the other thing that I cannot tell - American with Italian background, my honey is an American but he as Italian background, when I first met him, I couldn't tell he is an Italian at all! Because most of them still speak very fluent English, I though tItalian 's accent is different. | | | |

| | They are really somehow similar and the resemblance of the features of the faces, skin, height, even eyes are enough to mislead an observer that they are from the same races judging from their appearances. we only know them better when they started to speak in their own languages, it is then you could identify from what countries they belong.. | | | |

| | Well it all depends on which country in Asia one hails from........If we talk about china or japan then you will find similar looking people there you will often get confused with their identity, also they all are white skinned......if you take the case of my country(India) then they definitely don't look the same, unless they are identical twins lolzzz........but jokes apart I can easily distinguish between two people.....as some are brown skinned some are fair skinned and some are just neutral.......and also their facial features are not alike........ | | | | | | |

| | nope. Not all Asians look alike. There are those chinky-eyed, blue-eyed, tan in color, darker in color of the skin, and there are white... I, for one, have a fair complexion and somewhat chinky eyes. It just depends on your race or origin | | | |
